A premium Zigbee 3.0 wall switch range in glass or metal, specified and commissioned for Dubai villa and apartment fit-outs.
Simon Smart M7 is the Zigbee 3.0 version of Simon Electric's award-winning M7 switch plate, so you get an architectural glass or metal faceplate on the wall and a smart circuit behind it. The range covers one to four gang on/off switches (66E8001TY to 66E8004TY), a scene plus switch plate (66E8009TY), a TRIAC dimmer (66E8015TY) and curtain modules (66E8013TY and 66E8014TY). Each switch wires straight into Live and Neutral at 220-240V and sits in a standard European 86mm wall box, the same box used across UAE villas and apartments. Control runs through the Simon Smart app, and the switches will not reach that app on their own. They need a Simon Smart Zigbee Gateway (LAN 681808TY or Wi-Fi S00E0-S009) or a Simon Homepad or Simpad panel acting as the hub. Every mains-powered switch then repeats the mesh, which is what makes it hold up across a two or three storey villa. This suits owners doing a villa fit-out, a majlis refresh or a full apartment renovation where the plates are part of the interior design, not an afterthought. It is specified, wired and commissioned rather than bought off a shelf. Two honest limits. There is no no-neutral variant in the M7 smart range, so the box needs a neutral. And Simon Smart is a separate system from Simon iO, Simon's Spanish Wi-Fi line: different app, different radio, and the two cannot share a hub.
Model Simon Smart M7 (66E8001TY-66E8004TY, 66E8009TY, 66E8015TY)
| Wireless protocol | Zigbee 3.0, tuned to transmit through the switch's own glass or metal faceplate, around 150m open-area range. Each switch also acts as a Zigbee router and extends the mesh. |
| Control ecosystem | Simon Smart app for iOS and Android. A hub-based Zigbee system, completely separate from and not interoperable with Simon iO, Simon's Wi-Fi smart switch line from Spain. |
| Required gateway | Must pair to a Simon Smart Zigbee Gateway (LAN model 681808TY or Wi-Fi model S00E0-S009), or to a Simon Homepad or Simpad panel acting as the gateway. The switch cannot connect to Wi-Fi or the app on its own. |
| Electrical connection | Hard-wired to Live and Neutral mains inside the wall box, 220-240V, 50/60Hz. The M7 range has no neutral-free 'easy switch' variant. |
| Load rating | Up to 800W per gang on the standard on/off switches (66E8001TY to 66E8004TY). The 66E8015TY dimmer takes up to 400W of TRIAC dimmable load. The 66E8013TY and 66E8014TY curtain modules take up to 200W per gang for compatible 4-wire or 5-wire high-voltage curtain motors. |
| Mounting format | 86x86mm faceplate over a European-pattern flush wall box (72x72mm cavity, 60.3mm fixing centres), the standard box format used in UAE construction. |
| Materials and finishes | Air (polycarbonate), Metal (Frosted Silver, Brushed Grey, Satin Gold) and Gem tempered glass (Diamond White, Diamond Grey, Diamond Silver). The M7 platform won an iF Design Award 2023 and a Red Dot Award 2023. |
| Installation route | Mains rewiring behind a fixed architectural faceplate, plus gateway and app commissioning. Needs a licensed electrician and a certified Simon dealer. This is not a DIY retrofit switch. |
Voltage is straightforward here. Every M7 Smart switch is hard-wired to Live and Neutral at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, so it is correct for DEWA and the other UAE supply authorities. There is no 120V North American version of this line, and the wall-mounted gateway is rated the same way. Fitment is the part worth checking. M7 uses the European 86x86mm pattern (72x72mm cavity, 60.3mm fixing centres), which is what UAE contractors install, so it drops into most existing apertures. It is not a UK plate pattern, and it is not a plug-in product, so Type-G sockets and Schuko adapters do not come into it. Mains work behind the plate must be done by a licensed UAE electrician, and the gateway and app side is commissioned by a certified Simon dealer. Supply is quote-only: Stable Link in Dubai Silicon Oasis is the stated exclusive Simon distributor for the UAE and Oman, so lead time, finish availability and warranty terms are confirmed in writing before we quote.
Simon in the UAE. The Spanish wiring-device maker (Simon S.A., founded 1916) and its Simon Electric China arm. In the UAE and Oman the range is handled by Stable Link in Dubai Silicon Oasis, the stated exclusive distributor, on a project-quote basis rather than through retail shelves. A few manual Simon mechanisms appear on Amazon.ae as cross-border imports, but the smart lines are specified and quoted per job.
