What exactly is the Simon Smart M7?

It is Simon Electric's top smart switch line, built on the M7 architectural plate that won an iF Design Award and a Red Dot Award in 2023. You get capacitive on/off gangs, scene plates, a TRIAC dimmer and curtain modules, all talking Zigbee 3.0 to a Simon gateway.

Will it work on UAE 220-240V mains?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Simon's own installation manual has every M7 Smart switch wired directly to the Live and Neutral mains conductors at 220-240V, 50/60Hz. There is no 120V North American version of this line, so you are not dealing with the US-spec voltage problem that catches out some imported American switches.

Does it fit the wall boxes in a Dubai villa?

Accepted Answer

In most cases yes. M7 uses the European 86x86mm faceplate over a flush box with a 72x72mm cavity and 60.3mm fixing centres, which is the box pattern UAE contractors fit as standard. We still measure the existing apertures on site before ordering plates, because older and imported boxes vary.

Is this a UK-style switch plate?

Accepted Answer

No. It is the square European 86mm format, not the UK 1-gang or 2-gang plate you would buy in Britain. That only matters if your property was fitted with British back boxes. Send us a photo of one plate taken off the wall and we will confirm the pattern for you.

Can I install it myself?

Accepted Answer

No. The switch is hard-wired into Live and Neutral behind a fixed faceplate, so it is mains work. In the UAE that has to be done by a licensed electrician. The plates are also part of the finished interior, so they are set out at fit-out stage rather than swapped in casually.

Question 6

What else do I have to buy before it works?

Accepted Answer

A gateway. The switches speak Zigbee, so they need a Simon Smart Zigbee Gateway (LAN model 681808TY or Wi-Fi model S00E0-S009), or a Simon Homepad or Simpad panel acting as the hub. Without one, the plate is just a very good-looking manual switch on the wall.

Question 7

Which app controls it?

Accepted Answer

The Simon Smart app on iOS or Android. You add the gateway first, then each switch joins the Zigbee mesh through it. Rooms, scenes and schedules are built in the same app. This is not the Simon iO app, and the two apps are not interchangeable in any way.

Question 8

Does it work with Alexa, Google Home or Apple Home?

Do not assume it does. Simon Smart runs as its own hub-based system through the Simon Smart app, and we have not verified voice assistant support for this specific range. We check the current integration list with the UAE distributor before quoting, so you get a straight answer in writing.

How is Simon Smart different from Simon iO?

Accepted Answer

They are two separate systems from the same parent brand. Simon iO is the Spanish Wi-Fi switch line. Simon Smart M7 is the Zigbee line from Simon Electric in China. Different app, different radio, different gateway. They cannot be mixed on one hub, so pick one system for the house.

Can I run some rooms on Simon iO and others on Simon Smart?

You can physically fit both in one villa, but you will be running two apps and two sets of automations, and neither hub will see the other's devices. For anything larger than a studio that gets irritating quickly. We would specify one line across the whole property instead.

Does it need a neutral wire?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every M7 Smart switch connects to both Live and Neutral, and the range has no no-neutral variant. Most Dubai villas and towers built in the last fifteen years have a neutral at the switch box. Older flats in Deira, Karama and Bur Dubai often do not, so we check first.

How much load can each gang switch?

Up to 800W per gang on the standard on/off models 66E8001TY through 66E8004TY. The 66E8015TY dimmer handles up to 400W of TRIAC dimmable load. Curtain modules 66E8013TY and 66E8014TY take up to 200W per gang. We total each circuit before assigning gangs.

Can it dim my downlights?

The 66E8015TY is the dimmer in the range and it is a TRIAC type, so the lamps and drivers on that circuit have to be TRIAC dimmable. Cheap non-dimmable LED downlights will flicker or buzz. We check the driver spec of your fittings before putting a dimmer on that circuit.

Can it open and close my curtains?

Yes, through the 66E8013TY and 66E8014TY curtain modules, rated up to 200W per gang for compatible high-voltage curtain motors with 4-wire or 5-wire control. The motor has to match. If your track uses a low-voltage or Wi-Fi motor, it needs a different controller, and we would say so.

Question 15

Can I retrofit it into a finished villa, or is it only for new fit-outs?

Accepted Answer

Both are possible, but new fit-outs and full renovations are the easier case because the wiring and the finishes are being set out anyway. A retrofit works where the boxes are the right pattern and a neutral is present. We survey the property before committing to a plate count.

How does it compare to the Aqara Z1 Pro you also sell?

Accepted Answer

The Aqara Z1 Pro is the practical mid-range pick: cheaper, locally stocked, easy to replace, and it reaches Apple Home, Alexa and Google through an Aqara hub. Simon M7 is the specified premium plate, chosen for the glass and metal finishes and one matching range across an entire villa.

Question 17

Why not a Sonoff or Tuya switch at a fraction of the price?

Accepted Answer

A budget switch does the same basic job of turning a light on. What you do not get is the finish, the matched plate range in every room, or a named distributor standing behind the product. If the plates are part of the interior design, that difference is the entire point.

Question 18

Should I just use Philips Hue bulbs instead?

Accepted Answer

Different tool for a different job. Hue gives you bulb-level colour and scenes you can fit yourself with no electrician. Simon M7 controls the circuit at the wall and reads as architecture. Plenty of villas use both, with M7 on general lighting and Hue or strips on feature areas.

Why is there no price on this page?

Accepted Answer

Because there is no public UAE consumer price for this range. It is sold on a project basis through the distributor, and cost depends on gang count, finish, dimmer and curtain modules, gateway and labour. We price the whole scope, so a single switch figure would only mislead you.

Question 20

How do you quote it?

Accepted Answer

Send us a floor plan or a room list. We count circuits, gangs, dimmers and curtain points, then check the wall box pattern and the neutrals on site. You get plate finishes, the gateway, commissioning and electrical labour as one figure, with the lead time stated on the same document.

What is the lead time?

Accepted Answer

It varies by finish, because the glass and metal plates are ordered rather than pulled off a Dubai shelf. Stable Link in Dubai Silicon Oasis is the stated exclusive UAE and Oman distributor, so availability comes from them. We confirm a date in writing with the quote, never before that.

What finishes can I choose?

Accepted Answer

Three families. Air in polycarbonate, Metal in Frosted Silver, Brushed Grey or Satin Gold, and Gem tempered glass in Diamond White, Diamond Grey or Diamond Silver. Most Dubai villas we fit go for the glass or the metal, and the plate finish usually follows the door ironmongery.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Accepted Answer

The plate still switches its own circuit, because the relay sits in the switch and the touch control is local. What you lose is app control from outside the house and anything depending on a cloud service. Lights, dimming and the wall scenes carry on working as normal inside the home.

Question 24

What if the gateway fails?

Accepted Answer

Each switch keeps working as a switch, because it is wired to the load. App control, scenes and automations stop until the gateway is replaced and the mesh is back up. In a large villa we can price a spare gateway into the job so an outage is a swap, not a callout.

Question 25

Does the glass faceplate block the Zigbee signal?

Accepted Answer

No. Simon engineers the radio to pass through the switch's own glass or metal plate, with roughly 150m of open-area range. Each mains-powered switch also repeats the mesh, so a villa gets stronger coverage as you add switches, rather than the thinning signal you see with Wi-Fi devices.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

The plate belongs on a dry wall. No IP rating for this range came up in our checks, so treat it as an indoor dry-location device. UAE practice puts the light switch outside the wet area anyway, and we would place it on the dry side of the bathroom door.

What is the warranty in the UAE?

No warranty terms specific to the Simon Smart M7 range are published, and we will not invent one. Simon publishes general product warranty policies regionally. We confirm the exact cover, the claim route and after-sales support with Stable Link in writing before you approve anything.

Does it work with Matter?

Accepted Answer

Nothing we verified says this line is a Matter device. It is a Zigbee 3.0 system tied to Simon's own gateway and app. If cross-platform Matter control is a hard requirement for you, tell us early and we will check the current position with the distributor before you commit to plates.

Who should not buy this?

Accepted Answer

Renters, anyone who wants to fit switches themselves at the weekend, and anyone whose main goal is voice control on a budget. Skip it too if your switch boxes have no neutral. In those cases an Aqara or Tapo switch, or a battery scene controller, is the sensible answer.
