Smart Pet Doors, Feeders, Cameras and Litter Boxes in Dubai

The short answer

A microchip pet door fitted into a door, wall or glass keeps Dubai strays out, a self-cleaning litter box ends daily scooping, and a pet camera or smart feeder covers long workdays. SureFlap leads on doors, Litter-Robot on litter.

The context

Before you compare models

Dubai has a huge pet-owning community, and most owners share the same problems: long working hours, frequent travel, stray cats in villa communities and summers too hot to leave a pet outside for long. Smart pet gear handles each of those. A microchip pet door reads the chip your vet already implanted, so it opens for your cat or dog and stays locked to the neighbour's cat and any strays, with a night curfew if you want one. A self-cleaning litter box rakes or rotates waste into a sealed drawer after every visit, which keeps smell down in an air-conditioned flat where windows stay shut. A treat-tossing camera or a camera feeder lets you check in and talk to your pet from the office. Some of this is plug-in and app setup. Pet doors are real installation work: cutting a timber door, core-drilling a block wall or ordering a new toughened glass panel with a hole, which in Dubai usually means a glazier. We measure, fit and set up the app, and tell you plainly when a door or panel is not suitable.

Hardware prices are typical UAE retail for the device, before installation. Tap a product for full specifications.

How to choose

Start with the pet door, because it is the one product where the fitting decides the result. Measure your pet at the widest point of the shoulders and pick a door with an opening a little larger. A microchip cat flap suits cats and small dogs; larger dogs need a bigger electronic door, and PetSafe's Connected door uses a collar key for dogs. Then look at where it will go. Timber doors take a simple cut-out. Block walls need core drilling and a tunnel liner. Glass doors and balcony sliders need a new toughened pane made with the hole in it, because toughened glass cannot be cut after it is made. Tower apartment entry doors are often fire-rated and must not be cut, so a balcony or internal door is usually the better place. If you rent, a no-cut sliding door insert is the option that leaves the building untouched, but check your track height first.

If you have more than one pet, decide whether you need control over who comes and goes. A DualScan flap can keep one cat indoors while the other goes out, and a microchip feeder stops one pet eating the other's special diet.

For litter, a self-cleaning box is worth it when you are out all day or travel often, or when you have more than one cat. Check the power plug (UAE uses 230V Type-G sockets), the space around it, and that the sensors are rated for your cat's weight. Keep it indoors in air-conditioning and out of direct sun.

For cameras and feeders, choose a camera with treat tossing if you mainly want to check on and reassure a dog, and a camera feeder if scheduled meals are the priority. Check which features need a paid subscription before you buy, and prefer models with battery backup so a DEWA power cut does not mean a missed meal.

Smart Pet Care questions

Can I feed my pet remotely while I am travelling?
Chevron down icon
Yes. A smart feeder runs your set schedule on its own, and from the app you can trigger an extra portion, change the timing, or check that a meal was dispensed, from anywhere with internet. Models with a camera let you watch and speak to your pet at feeding time, which is reassuring on a long trip.

Is the camera on a feeder worth it?
Chevron down icon
If you travel or work long days, yes. Being able to see your pet eat, and talk to them, turns the feeder into a quick daily check-in. If you are home most of the time and just want reliable scheduled meals, a plain feeder does the job for less and there is less to go wrong.

Do pet fountains help in the UAE heat?
Chevron down icon
They do, because pets, cats especially, drink more when water is fresh, cool and moving rather than sitting warm in a bowl. Better hydration matters in this climate. You refill the tank every few days and change the filter on schedule, and the pump keeps the water circulating and filtered in between.

How does a microchip pet door work?
Chevron down icon
It reads the same microchip your vet already implanted, so when your pet approaches, the door unlocks only for them and stays locked to strays and other animals. There is no extra tag to buy. Connected models add app control, a night curfew and a log of when your pet came and went.

What happens to a smart feeder in a power cut?
Chevron down icon
Most good feeders take backup batteries so they keep running and keep their schedule through a DEWA outage. The app connection pauses while the Wi-Fi is down and catches up when power returns. When buying, check that the model includes a battery backup, since not every budget feeder does.

Can a pet door be fitted into glass in Dubai?
Chevron down icon
Yes, but not by cutting your existing pane. Toughened glass shatters if cut, so a glazier makes a new toughened panel with the round hole already in it, and the pet door fits into that hole. We measure the pane, arrange the glass and fit the door, which usually takes a week or two for the glass.

Can I fit a pet door if I rent my apartment?
Chevron down icon
Only with your landlord's written approval if it means cutting a door, wall or glass. A no-cut sliding door insert is the renter-friendly option, because it stands in the track of a balcony slider and comes out when you leave. Tower apartment entry doors are usually fire-rated and should never be cut.

Are self-cleaning litter boxes worth it in Dubai?
Chevron down icon
For busy owners and multi-cat homes, yes. The box clears waste into a sealed drawer after each visit, which keeps smell down in closed, air-conditioned apartments. Keep it indoors away from direct sun, use the UK plug version where available, and check the minimum cat weight before using it with kittens.

Do pet cameras need a subscription?
Chevron down icon
It depends on the brand. Live view, two-way audio and treat tossing usually work free, while AI alerts, video history and daily highlights often need a monthly plan. We check what the free tier covers for the specific camera before you buy, so there are no surprises after setup.

How do microchip pet doors stop stray cats getting in?
Chevron down icon
The door stays locked from the outside until it reads a registered microchip or collar tag, so a stray or a neighbour's cat pushing on the flap cannot open it. DualScan models also check pets going out, which lets you keep one cat indoors while another is free to come and go.
