What it checks

The details that decide whether a smart home works

  • Platform support

Every device shows whether it works with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings, directly or through Matter. Pick your platform and the planner swaps out anything that does not fit.

  • Hubs and bridges

Zigbee and Bluetooth devices need a hub to reach your phone. The planner works out which ones your plan needs, and spots devices that double as one, such as a doorbell chime.

  • Typical UAE prices

Hardware prices come from each product page, so you can judge the budget before you speak to anyone. Fitting is quoted after a free site survey.

Questions

Planning questions we hear most

What is the Smart Home Planner?

A free online tool from Dubai Smart Home that helps anyone design a smart home for a villa or an apartment in the UAE. You explore the house in 3D or as a drawing, pick a device for each spot room by room, and the planner checks platform support, adds the hubs your devices need and keeps a running total at typical UAE prices. When you are happy with it, share the plan as a link or send it to us for a fitted quote.

Is the Smart Home Planner free to use?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no app to download and nothing to pay. It runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Sending us your plan is free too, and so is the site survey that follows if you want one.

Which brands and devices can I choose from?

Every product in our catalogue: 397 devices from 94 brands across 17 categories, including Aqara, SwitchBot, Philips Hue, Lutron, Sonos, Yale, Ring, eufy, TP-Link and Roborock. Each spot suggests a few of the strongest options first, and the full list shows every model that fits it, from smart locks and curtain motors to solar inverters and pet feeders.

Can I mix brands in one smart home?

Yes. Plenty of smart homes mix brands, for example Aqara sensors, a SwitchBot curtain motor and Sonos speakers. What matters is that they share a platform such as Apple Home or Alexa, and that every Zigbee or Bluetooth device has the hub it needs. In the planner, tick the brands you want at the top, or leave it on All brands and swap single devices. It checks platform support and hubs as you choose.

Do I need a smart home hub?

Wi-Fi devices connect on their own. Zigbee devices, which include most Aqara sensors, switches and curtain motors, need a hub, and SwitchBot's Bluetooth devices need a SwitchBot hub for remote and voice control. Thread devices need a border router, which a HomePod mini, an Echo Show 8 or an Aqara Hub M3 provides. Some devices double as a hub, such as the chime of the Aqara G410 doorbell. The planner adds what your plan needs.

What does working through Matter mean?

Matter is a shared standard that lets one device work with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings. A device marked M joins those platforms through Matter rather than a direct integration. Each platform is still adding some device types, so we confirm support for your exact setup before you buy.

Are the prices in the planner final?

No. They are typical UAE prices for the hardware, taken from our product pages, so you can judge the budget. Fitting, wiring, programming and any extra parts are quoted after a free site survey. Solar is priced only after a roof survey, because the panels and battery are sized to your bills.

Does the planner work for apartments?

Yes. Switch the plan to Apartment and the garden, carport, gate and roof drop out. Many of the devices suit apartments and rented homes, such as curtain motors that clip onto the existing track, smart plugs and battery sensors.

Can I use the planner on my phone?

Yes. On a phone the planner opens full screen. Tap a room to see its devices, tap a device to swap it for another model, and use Filters to set your home, budget, platform and brands. It works in Safari and Chrome, and you can switch between the 3D view and the drawing at any time.

Can I share my plan or come back to it later?

Yes. Press Share under the house to copy a link, or send it straight to WhatsApp or email. Whoever opens it sees the same devices, brands and quantities, with the full list ready to read, and can change it for their own home. The plan is also saved in your browser, so it is still there when you come back on the same device.

What happens after I send my plan?

We review it against your home and call you within one working day. If you want, we book a free site survey, then send a supplied-and-installed price that explains any changes we suggest.

Rather talk it through?

Tell us about your home and we will plan it with you. The consultation and the site survey are free.
