The SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap checks your cat's microchip on the way in and on the way out. It is the right flap for a Dubai villa or townhouse with more than one cat, where one is allowed in the garden and another must stay inside. You register each cat as outdoor or indoor-only. Outdoor cats come and go, indoor-only cats cannot leave, and street cats cannot get in. If an indoor cat slips out through an open door, the flap still lets it back in. That exit scan is the whole difference from the SureFlap Microchip Cat Door we also list. Both have the same 142 x 120 mm opening and run on AA batteries, but the standard Cat Door only scans on entry, so any cat can leave. The Pet Door Connect is bigger and uses an app and Hub, which this flap does not. There is no Wi-Fi, no app and no curfew timer. A dial gives four modes: in and out, out only, in only, or fully locked. It stores up to 32 pets and reads implanted microchips or a SureFlap RFID collar tag, sold separately. It takes four AA alkaline batteries. It fits a door once a 165 x 171 mm hole is cut, and glass with a round hole of about 212 mm, which usually means a glazier. Sure Petcare says never fit it in a fire door. Skip it if all your cats go out, since the cheaper Cat Door does the job.

The DualScan suits villas and townhouses where cats reach a walled garden. A wooden or uPVC kitchen or back door is the simplest fit, and the screws in the box suit doors up to about 55 mm thick. Villa block walls are much deeper than the 70 mm tunnel, so a wall install needs tunnel extenders (50 mm each) and the Cat Flap Mounting Adaptor to fix it firmly. Glass is common in Dubai villas, but toughened and double-glazed panes cannot be cut after they are made. A glazier makes a new pane with a round hole of about 212 mm, then we fit the flap. Sure Petcare says never fit it in a fire door, which rules out most apartment entrance doors in towers, and we do not fit flaps onto high-rise balconies. The flap runs on batteries, so DEWA cuts do not matter, but heat and two scans per trip drain AA cells faster. Tenants need landlord approval for any cut.
