Overview

What it is and where it fits

The SureFlap Microchip Pet Door opens only for your own large cat or small dog, and it suits Dubai villa and townhouse owners who want street cats kept out without an app. It reads your pet's implanted microchip, or the RFID collar tag Sure Petcare puts in the box, and stores up to 32 pets. Any animal can push its way out, but only registered pets get in. Here is how it differs from our other SureFlap listings. The Microchip Cat Door is the smaller, cheaper flap, with a 142 x 120 mm opening and no timer. This Pet Door has a bigger 178 x 170 mm opening and a curfew timer that locks and unlocks at set times each day. The Pet Door Connect is the same size again, but adds app control, entry logs and alerts through the Sure Petcare Hub. Choose this one if you want the size and the timer, not the app. Four C-cell batteries last up to 12 months, and there is no plug or Wi-Fi. It fits a door as it comes. A wall needs tunnel extenders, 50 mm each. Glass needs the Pet Door Mounting Adaptor and a round hole of about 300 mm, which in Dubai usually means a glazier making a new toughened pane. Skip it if your dog is wider than the opening, if the door leads to a high-rise balcony, or if you want alerts on your phone.

  • Lets in only your registered pets, so street cats stay outside
  • Bigger opening than a cat flap, sized for large cats and small dogs
  • Built-in curfew timer locks the door at night with no app
  • Runs up to a year on four C-cell batteries, no wiring

What to check before you order

Most Dubai installs are on a villa kitchen or utility door that opens to a garden. A wooden or uPVC door is easiest, because the frame fits straight in once we cut a 207 x 234 mm hole. Villa block walls are often 200 mm or thicker, so a wall install needs about three tunnel extenders and a careful cut clear of pipes and cables. Sliding glass doors are common here, but toughened glass cannot be cut once it is made. A glazier has to make a new pane with a 294 to 320 mm round hole, and the mounting adaptor holds the door in it. Allow several days for that. The door runs on batteries, so DEWA power cuts do not affect it, though heat shortens battery life. Avoid a door in full afternoon sun if you can. Tenants need landlord approval for any cut. We do not fit pet doors that open onto high-rise balconies.

Questions about the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door

What is the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door?
Chevron down icon
It is a battery-powered pet door that reads your pet's microchip and unlocks only for animals you have registered. It is bigger than a standard cat flap, made for large cats and small dogs, and it has a built-in curfew timer. It does not connect to an app or Wi-Fi.

How much is the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
When we checked in September 2026, Amazon.ae had the white door at AED 644 through the Global Store, with only one left, and the brown door at AED 916. noon listed the brown door at AED 1,168 and higher. Accessories for walls and glass cost extra.

How is it different from the SureFlap Microchip Cat Door?
Chevron down icon
The Pet Door is larger and has a curfew timer. Its opening is 178 x 170 mm, against 142 x 120 mm on the Cat Door, and it runs on C-cell batteries instead of AA. The Cat Door is cheaper and fine for an average cat. Pick the Pet Door for a big cat, a small dog or a timed lock.

How is it different from the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect?
Chevron down icon
Both have the same size opening. The Connect version works with the Sure Petcare Hub and app, so you can lock it remotely, see when each pet goes in or out and get alerts. This standard Pet Door has none of that, costs less and needs no Hub. Its curfew is set on the door itself.

Can I connect this pet door to the Sure Petcare app later?
Chevron down icon
No. Only products with Connect in the name work with the Sure Petcare Hub and app. If you think you will want remote locking, entry logs or phone alerts, buy the Microchip Pet Door Connect from the start rather than upgrading later.

Is the opening big enough for my dog?
Chevron down icon
Measure your pet's widest point across the shoulders and its height from the bottom of the chest to the top of the shoulders. Both need to be comfortably under 178 mm wide and 170 mm high. It suits large cats and small dogs, not medium breeds.

Does my pet need a microchip?
Chevron down icon
No. It works with your pet's implanted microchip, and Sure Petcare also supplies one RFID collar tag for pets without a chip. Microchips are better because collars get lost. Most pets in the UAE are already chipped, since vets and pet import rules require it.

Will it read the microchip my UAE vet implanted?
Chevron down icon
Sure Petcare says it works with all identification microchips worldwide, which includes the standard 15-digit chips used by UAE vets. You program each pet by pressing the learn button and letting the pet put its head through the tunnel. The door stores up to 32 pets.

Will it keep street cats out of my villa?
Chevron down icon
Yes, for entry. The door stays locked to any animal it does not recognise, so stray and neighbourhood cats cannot come in through it. It does not scan pets going out. If you also want exit control per cat, look at the SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap.

How does the curfew mode work?
Chevron down icon
You set a daily lock time and unlock time using the buttons on the door. At the lock time the door stops letting pets out, and at the unlock time it opens again. It repeats every day, which helps keep cats in at night when they are most likely to fight or roam.

Can I keep my pet inside before a vet visit?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Switch the door to in-only mode, and your pet can come home but cannot go back out. You can also lock it fully. Change modes with the buttons on the inside of the door, no app needed.

Will it fit my villa door?
Chevron down icon
Most likely. It fits a door without any extra parts once a 207 x 234 mm hole is cut. Wooden and uPVC doors are the simplest. We check the door's thickness, whether it is hollow or solid, and where the hole will sit relative to your pet's height.

Can it be installed in a wall?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The door has internal screw holes for wall fixing. The tunnel is 70 mm deep, and each tunnel extender adds 50 mm, so a typical 200 to 250 mm villa block wall needs three or four. We check for water pipes, cables and AC ducts before cutting.

Can I fit it in a glass or sliding door?
Chevron down icon
Yes, with the Pet Door Mounting Adaptor. The glass needs a round hole between 294 and 320 mm across. Toughened or double-glazed glass cannot be cut after it is made, so a glazier makes a new pane with the hole already in it.

Do I need a glazier to fit it in glass?
Chevron down icon
Yes, for almost every glass install in Dubai. Villa doors and windows use toughened or double-glazed glass, which shatters if drilled. A glazier measures the panel, orders a new pane with the round hole, and fits it. We can coordinate that and fit the pet door when the glass is ready.

Can it go in a metal or aluminium door?
Chevron down icon
Sometimes. Cutting a steel or insulated aluminium door is harder than wood and depends on how the door is built inside. We look at it first. Often the better route is a new glass panel in the same frame or a wall install beside the door.

Can I fit it in my apartment?
Chevron down icon
Rarely. Most apartments have no door that leads somewhere safe for a pet to roam. We do not fit pet doors onto high-rise balconies, because cats can fall. In a ground-floor unit with a private garden it can work, with landlord and building approval.

Can a tenant install a SureFlap pet door?
Chevron down icon
Only with written landlord approval, because it means cutting a door, wall or glass. Some tenants agree to replace the door or glass at the end of the lease. Fitting it in a replacement glass pane can be easier to reverse, as the original pane can go back.

Do I need a hub, Wi-Fi or a subscription?
Chevron down icon
No. This model works entirely on its own. There is no app, no Hub, no internet connection and no monthly fee. You set everything with the buttons on the door. That also means you cannot check it or change it from your phone.

What happens in a DEWA power cut?
Chevron down icon
Nothing. The door runs on four C-cell batteries, not mains power, so a power cut has no effect. It warns you with a flashing light when the batteries are low. Change them promptly so the door keeps reading your pet's chip.

How does it cope with Dubai heat, sand and dust?
Chevron down icon
The door is plastic and battery powered, and Sure Petcare does not publish a temperature rating. Heat shortens battery life, so expect fewer than 12 months in summer. Fine sand can collect around the flap and seal, so wipe it regularly. Shade on the outside helps.

How long does installation take, and do you fit it?
Chevron down icon
Yes, we fit it across Dubai. A door install takes about one to two hours. A wall install takes longer because of the cutting and extenders. For glass, the glazier's new pane comes first, then the pet door goes in quickly. We program your pets before we leave.

What warranty does it have in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Sure Petcare gives a 3-year warranty. The Amazon.ae offers ship from Amazon Germany or Amazon US through the Global Store, and Amazon warns that overseas warranties may not apply in the UAE. Keep your order details and contact Sure Petcare support directly if there is a fault.

Who should not buy the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if your dog is too wide for a 178 mm opening, if your only option is a high-rise balcony, or if you want app alerts and remote locking. A single average-size cat does not need this size, the cheaper Microchip Cat Door will do.

What maintenance does it need?
Chevron down icon
Change the four C-cell batteries when the low battery light flashes, roughly once a year. Wipe sand and hair from the flap, seal and tunnel every few weeks. If the flap starts to stick, clean the latches. Check that pet IDs still work after a battery change.
