The SureFlap Microchip Pet Door opens only for your own large cat or small dog, and it suits Dubai villa and townhouse owners who want street cats kept out without an app. It reads your pet's implanted microchip, or the RFID collar tag Sure Petcare puts in the box, and stores up to 32 pets. Any animal can push its way out, but only registered pets get in. Here is how it differs from our other SureFlap listings. The Microchip Cat Door is the smaller, cheaper flap, with a 142 x 120 mm opening and no timer. This Pet Door has a bigger 178 x 170 mm opening and a curfew timer that locks and unlocks at set times each day. The Pet Door Connect is the same size again, but adds app control, entry logs and alerts through the Sure Petcare Hub. Choose this one if you want the size and the timer, not the app. Four C-cell batteries last up to 12 months, and there is no plug or Wi-Fi. It fits a door as it comes. A wall needs tunnel extenders, 50 mm each. Glass needs the Pet Door Mounting Adaptor and a round hole of about 300 mm, which in Dubai usually means a glazier making a new toughened pane. Skip it if your dog is wider than the opening, if the door leads to a high-rise balcony, or if you want alerts on your phone.

Most Dubai installs are on a villa kitchen or utility door that opens to a garden. A wooden or uPVC door is easiest, because the frame fits straight in once we cut a 207 x 234 mm hole. Villa block walls are often 200 mm or thicker, so a wall install needs about three tunnel extenders and a careful cut clear of pipes and cables. Sliding glass doors are common here, but toughened glass cannot be cut once it is made. A glazier has to make a new pane with a 294 to 320 mm round hole, and the mounting adaptor holds the door in it. Allow several days for that. The door runs on batteries, so DEWA power cuts do not affect it, though heat shortens battery life. Avoid a door in full afternoon sun if you can. Tenants need landlord approval for any cut. We do not fit pet doors that open onto high-rise balconies.
