Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Hub Pro iO is the master controller for Simon's iO smart wiring system, and it is optional in a very specific way. Simon iO switches and sockets still turn lights on and off without it. Scenes, schedules and remote access only exist once the hub is added. It sits on the home Wi-Fi and talks to the iO devices over Z-Wave Plus with S2 encryption, so the wall plates stay wired and normal while the automation logic lives in one box. With it you get multi-room scenes, time schedules, presence simulation while the family is away for the summer, keypad-triggered automations, access from outside the house, separate logins for family and staff, and voice control through Alexa and Google Assistant. It suits a Dubai villa or apartment already being fitted with Simon 270 or Simon 100 plates, which in practice means a new fit-out or a renovation where an electrician is changing switches anyway. To run it you need Simon iO devices, a stable router and the Simon iO App. The honest limits: it speaks Z-Wave and Wi-Fi, not Zigbee, Thread or Matter, so Aqara sensors and Hue bulbs do not join it. It is IP20, dry indoor only. There is no published Apple Home support. And it is not a shelf product here. It comes through an authorised Simon iO project dealer, so we specify it, install it and commission it as part of a lighting control package rather than selling it as a box.

  • Adds scenes, schedules and presence simulation to Simon iO plates
  • Desktop version plugs into an ordinary wall socket, no rewiring
  • Genuine 230V unit, correct for UAE mains with no adapter or step-down
  • Alexa and Google voice control, plus remote access when you travel

What to check before you order

The electronics are right for the UAE. Simon's datasheet lists a 230V supply at 50-60Hz, CE and RED certified, which matches our mains exactly, so no step-down transformer and no adapter. The desktop unit (ref. 21032108-039) plugs into an ordinary UAE socket and that is the whole job. The built-in version is the part to watch. Those Spanish kits sit in an EU-pattern Simon 100 wall box and carry a German Schuko round-pin socket face, which does not match our BS 1363 Type-G outlets, so the GCC-market frame and socket has to be ordered instead. Simon also lists ref. 10032108-138 as discontinued and the white 10032108-130 as while stocks last, so confirm part numbers with the distributor before anyone commits. Mains wiring is for a licensed electrician only. On supply, Stable Link in Dubai Silicon Oasis is often assumed to be the UAE Simon dealer, but it carries the separate Simon M7 Zigbee line and points to Simon HQ for iO, so this hub has to come through a Simon iO authorised project dealer.

Simon in the UAE. The Spanish wiring-device maker (Simon S.A., founded 1916) and its Simon Electric China arm. In the UAE and Oman the range is handled by Stable Link in Dubai Silicon Oasis, the stated exclusive distributor, on a project-quote basis rather than through retail shelves. A few manual Simon mechanisms appear on Amazon.ae as cross-border imports, but the smart lines are specified and quoted per job.

Questions about the Simon Hub Pro iO Gateway

What is the Simon Hub Pro iO and what does it actually do?
Chevron down icon
It is the master controller for Simon's iO smart wiring range. The switches and sockets handle plain on and off by themselves. The hub is what adds scenes, time schedules, presence simulation, keypad automations, access from outside the house and separate user permissions for the household.

Will it work on UAE 220-240V mains?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The manufacturer datasheet gives 230V at 50-60Hz, with CE and RED certification. That is standard UAE mains, so there is no step-down transformer, no converter and no plug adapter needed for the electronics. The desktop unit goes straight into a normal wall socket.

Does the built-in version fit UAE wall boxes and sockets?
Chevron down icon
Not as sold in Spain. The -130 and -138 kits use an EU-pattern Simon 100 wall box and a German Schuko round-pin socket face, which is not our BS 1363 Type-G standard. A UAE install needs Simon's GCC-market frame and socket variant, confirmed by part number before ordering.

Desktop or built-in, which one makes sense in Dubai?
Chevron down icon
Desktop, in almost every case. It is Simon's current SKU, it plugs into any socket, needs no electrician and can be moved if the router moves. The built-in outlet version looks tidier in a wall, but it is being phased out and it brings the Schuko socket problem with it.

Do I need an electrician to install it?
Chevron down icon
For the desktop unit, no. It is plug and play, and a homeowner or our technician can set it up in the app. For the built-in wall-plate version, yes, because it is wired into live 230V mains. In the UAE that work belongs to a licensed electrician, not a handyman.

Do Simon iO switches work without this hub?
Chevron down icon
Yes, for basic switching. Press the plate and the light changes, exactly like a normal switch. What needs the hub is everything clever: sunset timers, away-mode presence simulation, one button that sets the whole majlis, keypad automations and any control while you are out of the country.

What else do I need to buy for it to be useful?
Chevron down icon
Simon iO devices to control, meaning 270 or 100 series switches, sockets and sensors, plus a stable Wi-Fi router within reach and the Simon iO App on a phone. There is no extra gateway, processor or third-party controller to buy. The hub stores the installation data itself.

Which app controls it?
Chevron down icon
The Simon iO App, on iOS and Android. That is where devices are added, scenes are built, schedules are set and user permissions are handed out. Alexa and Google are linked from inside the same app once the hub is online and the account exists.

Does it work with Alexa and Google Assistant?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Once the hub is connected and the account is linked, you can switch lights, run scenes and trigger schedules by voice through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The voice side needs internet, so it stops during an outage while the wall switches keep working normally.

Does it work with Apple Home?
Chevron down icon
Simon publishes Alexa and Google Assistant support for the iO range, not Apple Home. If your household runs on iPhones, Siri and the Apple Home app, say so at the design stage, because it changes which system we specify. We will not claim HomeKit support that is not documented.

Is this a Zigbee or a Matter hub?
Chevron down icon
Neither. It uses Z-Wave Plus with S2 encryption to reach Simon iO devices, Wi-Fi to reach your router, and Bluetooth for pairing and setup. Aqara sensors, Hue bulbs and generic Zigbee or Matter gear do not join it. It is a controller for the Simon iO family only.

Can I retrofit this into a villa that is already finished?
Chevron down icon
The hub itself is easy, since the desktop unit just plugs in. The harder part is the Simon iO plates. Those replace existing switches and need an electrician, an EU-pattern back box and, in most cases, a neutral at the switch position. We survey a few points before promising a retrofit.

Is this suitable for a rented apartment?
Chevron down icon
The desktop hub is fine anywhere, but the value comes from Simon iO plates, and changing wall switches in a rental usually needs written landlord approval and building management sign-off. For most tenants a plug-in and battery-based system is the sensible route, and we will tell you that honestly.

How does it compare to an Aqara Hub M2 at a fraction of the price?
Chevron down icon
They solve different problems. The M2 is a retail Zigbee hub for sensors, retrofit devices and infrared AC control, bought off a shelf. Simon iO is the wiring itself, designed into the build, with matching plates in every room. Spend more here only if the plates matter to you.

Should I buy this instead of Philips Hue or Sonoff?
Chevron down icon
Not instead of, because they are different layers. Hue is bulbs. Sonoff is inexpensive Wi-Fi retrofit. Simon iO replaces the switches and sockets themselves and gives one consistent look across the home. If the finish on the wall matters as much as the automation, Simon is the argument.

Does it still work if the internet goes down?
Chevron down icon
The hub holds your devices, scenes and schedules itself rather than depending on an outside controller, so the plates on the wall keep switching lights normally. What stops is remote control from outside the house, voice assistants and anything cloud-based. We test that behaviour with you at handover.

Can it handle Dubai summer heat?
Chevron down icon
It is rated IP20, indoor and dry only, and it runs continuously on mains. Put it in air-conditioned space, out of direct sun, not in a garage, not in an unconditioned store room and not in a damp plant room. A hot cupboard packed with other gear is also a bad idea.

Can I install it outside or in a bathroom?
Chevron down icon
No. IP20 means no protection against water at all. Outdoors, a bathroom, a wet plant room or an open balcony are all wrong for this unit. Keep it inside the cooled part of the home, near the router, where it stays dry and out of the dust.

Where is the best place for it in a villa?
Chevron down icon
Close to the router, on a socket that is never switched off, in a dry conditioned space. A study, a ventilated media cupboard or the main network area all work. Avoid metal-lined cupboards and avoid burying it behind a rack, because the radio still needs clear air around it.

Is the built-in wall version still being made?
Chevron down icon
Simon's own EU catalogue marks ref. 10032108-138, the black gloss one, as a discontinued product, and the white 10032108-130 is flagged as available while stocks last. The family is being retired in favour of the desktop unit, so do not plan a new project around the built-in format.

Can I just order it from Amazon.ae or Noon?
Chevron down icon
No. There is no UAE retail listing for this product on either marketplace. It moves through authorised Simon iO project dealers and systems integrators as part of a specified installation, which is also why we quote it per project instead of publishing a shelf price.

Is Stable Link in Dubai Silicon Oasis the right supplier for this?
Chevron down icon
Be careful here. Stable Link is well known as a UAE Simon contact, but the range it carries is the separate Simon M7 and i7 Zigbee family, and its own site points to Simon HQ for iO. The Hub Pro iO has to come from a Simon iO authorised dealer.

How do you price it and what is the lead time?
Chevron down icon
We quote per project, because this is imported to order against a specified device list rather than pulled off a shelf. Spanish list prices seen online are Spain-market figures and mean nothing here. Send us the plan or the switch schedule and we come back with price and lead time.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
No UAE-specific warranty is published for this exact model. For project-supplied wiring lines like this, support normally runs through the appointed distributor rather than the factory. We confirm the warranty length and the support route in writing with the distributor before you approve the order.

Is it secure enough to leave on my home network?
Chevron down icon
It uses Z-Wave Plus with S2, the encrypted version of the protocol, for the link to the switches, and the app supports several users with different permission levels. Put it on your main network behind a strong router password and keep firmware current through the app.

Who should not buy this?
Chevron down icon
Anyone who wants a cheap weekend upgrade, anyone committed to Apple Home, most tenants who cannot change switches, and anyone who enjoys mixing brands and protocols. It is for an owner doing a proper fit-out who wants one wiring system, one look on the wall and an installer behind it.
