Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is a small soundbar that does two jobs well. It makes your TV sound clearer and fuller, and it plays music, radio and podcasts over Wi-Fi through the Sonos app. At 65 cm wide it fits under most 40 to 65 inch TVs without blocking the screen. Five Class-D amplifiers drive one center tweeter and four mid-woofers, so dialogue stays clear and the sound fills a normal Dubai living room or bedroom. It handles Dolby Atmos, but through software processing rather than upward-firing drivers, so you get a wider, more spacious effect rather than true overhead height. That is an honest trade for the small size. Setup is simple. Connect it to your TV with the single HDMI eARC/ARC cable (an optical adapter is in the box for older TVs), plug it into a Type-G socket, then finish in the Sonos app on your phone. There is no Bluetooth, so phone audio streams over Apple AirPlay 2 or the app itself. Who it suits in Dubai: renters and owners in apartments, and anyone with a medium living room or majlis who wants better TV sound without wall speakers or wiring. If you have a large villa hall with high ceilings, or you want deep cinema bass, look at the Arc Ultra or add a Sub later. The Beam is a strong first Sonos piece you can grow into a surround system over time.

  • Clear TV dialogue and room-filling sound from a bar just 65 cm wide
  • Streams music, radio and podcasts over Wi-Fi, no TV needed
  • Built-in Amazon Alexa, plus AirPlay 2 and Google Assistant support
  • Grows into full surround with a Sonos Sub and rear speakers

What to check before you order

The Beam runs on 220-240V and ships with a UK-style Type-G three-pin plug, so it fits Dubai wall sockets straight away with no adapter. It is an indoor device, so keep it out of direct sun and off dusty ledges. A quick wipe of the speaker grille now and then keeps dust from building up in the AC-heavy summer months. Wi-Fi reach matters more than the soundbar itself. In an apartment one router is usually enough. In a larger villa, place the Beam within good range of your router or mesh node, or use the Ethernet port for a rock-steady wired link, especially if you plan a multi-room Sonos setup across floors. Sonos gives a 1-year limited warranty, and UAE retailers such as Amazon.ae sell paid extended cover at checkout. We can supply the Beam, set it up with your TV and Sonos account, and tune it for your room. Ask us for current stock and today's price.

Questions about the Sonos Beam (Gen 2)

What is the Sonos Beam (Gen 2)?
Chevron down icon
It is a compact smart soundbar, 65 cm wide, that improves your TV sound and doubles as a Wi-Fi music speaker. Five amplifiers drive one tweeter and four mid-woofers. It supports Dolby Atmos through software, has built-in Alexa, and runs through the free Sonos app on your phone.

Is the Beam right for my Dubai apartment?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Its small size suits apartment living rooms and bedrooms, and it gives clearer, fuller sound without wall wiring or extra speakers. Renters can set it up in minutes and take it with them when they move, since nothing is fixed to the wall or ceiling.

Will it fill a large villa living room?
Chevron down icon
For a medium room or majlis, yes. In a big villa hall with high ceilings you may want more bass and scale. You can add a Sonos Sub and two rear speakers to the Beam, or step up to the larger Sonos Arc Ultra for a bigger space.

Does it need Wi-Fi to work?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The Beam joins your home Wi-Fi (or a wired Ethernet connection) and is controlled through the Sonos app. TV sound still plays through the HDMI cable if the internet drops, but music streaming, voice control and app control all rely on your network.

Do I need a separate hub or Sonos Bridge?
Chevron down icon
No. Older Sonos systems used a Bridge, but the Beam connects straight to your Wi-Fi. You only need the free Sonos app to set it up. There is no extra box, no hub, and no wiring beyond the single cable to your TV.

Is there a monthly subscription?
Chevron down icon
No. The Beam has no subscription fee, and you control it with the free Sonos app. If you want to stream from Spotify, Apple Music or similar, you pay those services separately, but that is your choice and not required to use the soundbar for TV sound.

Which app controls it?
Chevron down icon
The free Sonos app for iPhone and Android. You use it for setup, volume, EQ, grouping speakers, and adding music services. On iPhone the app also runs Trueplay, which tunes the sound to your room. Everyday volume changes can also use your normal TV remote.

Does it work with Amazon Alexa?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Alexa is built into the Beam, with far-field microphones for hands-free voice commands. You can ask it to play music, check the weather or control other smart devices. There is a physical mic switch on the bar if you prefer to turn the microphones off.

Does it work with Google Assistant?
Chevron down icon
The Beam works with Google Assistant-enabled devices, so you can control it from a Google speaker or display you already own. The built-in voice on the bar itself is Amazon Alexa. If your home runs mostly on Google, the Beam still fits neatly into that setup.

Does it work with Apple Home and Siri?
Chevron down icon
Yes, through AirPlay 2. You can stream to the Beam from an iPhone, iPad or Mac, ask Siri on your Apple device to play to it, and add it in the Apple Home app. This suits the many Dubai households built around iPhones and iPads.

Does the Beam have Bluetooth?
Chevron down icon
No, and this is the one common surprise. The Beam has no Bluetooth, so you cannot pair a phone directly like a portable speaker. Instead you stream over Wi-Fi using AirPlay 2 or the Sonos app, which gives better quality and lets you play across multiple rooms.

How does it connect to my TV?
Chevron down icon
With one HDMI cable into your TV's HDMI eARC or ARC port. That single cable carries the sound, and a 1.5 m HDMI cable is included. Setup takes a few minutes, and the Beam can then power on with your TV and follow the TV remote's volume.

What if my TV has no HDMI ARC port?
Chevron down icon
An optical audio adapter is included in the box for exactly this. It plugs into your TV's optical output and then into the Beam's HDMI socket. Most TVs sold in the UAE in recent years have ARC, but the adapter covers older sets you may still have.

Does it really do Dolby Atmos?
Chevron down icon
It supports Dolby Atmos, but through software processing, not upward-firing drivers. So you get a wider, taller sense of sound rather than true overhead height effects. For a bar this size that is a fair result. If you want stronger height, the larger Arc Ultra has dedicated up-firing drivers.

Will it cope with Dubai summer heat?
Chevron down icon
Yes, as an indoor device in a normal air-conditioned room. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from windows where the afternoon sun hits. Do not sit it inside a sealed, unventilated cabinet. In everyday Dubai indoor conditions it runs cool and needs no special care.

What about dust in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Dust is the bigger local issue, not heat. Fine dust settles on the fabric grille over time. Give it a light dusting or a gentle vacuum on low every few weeks, especially during shamal winds. Avoid sprays and liquids on the grille. That is all the upkeep it really needs.

What plug does it use, and does it fit UAE sockets?
Chevron down icon
It ships with a UK-style Type-G three-pin plug and runs on 220-240V, so it fits Dubai wall sockets with no adapter. Just plug it into a normal power point near your TV. There is no separate power brick, only a slim cable from the bar.

Who installs it, and can you set it up?
Chevron down icon
Most people set it up themselves in about ten minutes using the Sonos app. If you prefer, our team can deliver it, connect it to your TV, create or link your Sonos account, run room tuning, and show you how to use it. Just ask about setup when you order.

What warranty do I get in the UAE?

How does the Beam compare to the Sonos Arc Ultra?
Chevron down icon
The Beam is smaller, cheaper and made for apartments and medium rooms. The Arc Ultra is a bigger bar with real up-firing Atmos drivers and deeper bass, better for large villa lounges and home cinemas. Start with the Beam if your space and budget are tighter.

Can I add a subwoofer and rear speakers later?
Chevron down icon
Yes, and this is a strong reason to buy it. Add a Sonos Sub (Mini, 3 or 4) for deep bass, and a pair of Era 100, Era 300 or One speakers as rears for full 5.1 surround. You build it up in stages, all through the Sonos app.

Does it play music when the TV is off?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The Beam is a full Wi-Fi speaker in its own right. It streams music, radio, podcasts and audiobooks over your network with the TV off, and it can play in sync with other Sonos speakers placed in different rooms of your home.

Contact us
Who should not buy the Beam?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if you need Bluetooth pairing, want true overhead Atmos height, or are filling a very large villa hall or dedicated cinema. In those cases look at the Arc Ultra, add a Sub, or choose a system with wired rear speakers. The Beam is best for small to medium rooms.

How much power does it use and what does it cost to run?
Chevron down icon
Very little. A soundbar like this draws only a few watts idle and modest power while playing, so its effect on your DEWA bill is small. There is no battery to replace; it stays plugged into the wall and is ready whenever you turn on your TV or music.
