Overview

What it is and where it fits

Buy this one if you run SwitchBot elsewhere in the home, or plan to. Paired with a SwitchBot smart lock on the same door, it lets you see a caller and release the lock from one screen, and that single-app front door is the real reason to pick it. On camera hardware alone it now holds its own on price. It shoots 2K across a 165 degree ultra-wide lens that frames a caller head to toe, has colour night vision, and carries a 5000mAh battery that also takes existing 5V doorbell wiring where you have it. At around 366 dirhams it undercuts the Tapo D225 and the Ring battery doorbell, and the plain version ships with a plug-in indoor chime so alerts reach the flat, not only your phone. Recording goes to a microSD card, up to 512GB, with no compulsory plan. Be clear on the limits before ordering. The doorbell has no lock of its own, it is a camera and intercom, so opening the door needs a separately bought SwitchBot lock. It runs on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, with no native Apple Home support, so an Apple household is better served by the Aqara G4. Amazon sells two versions on the same camera, one with a chime and one with a 4.3 inch indoor monitor, and we confirm which suits you before ordering.

What to check before you order

The strongest case for this doorbell in Dubai is a front door that already carries, or will carry, a SwitchBot lock, so a courier or a cleaner can be seen and let in from one app. It takes battery or existing wiring, which suits apartments with no doorbell transformer behind the frame as well as villas with a live bell circuit. Heat is the thing to plan around: a 5000mAh battery on a west-facing wall in July needs charging more often than the rating suggests, so keep it in shade and consider the optional solar panel. On a villa, the doorbell needs a steady 2.4GHz signal, and a gate 20 or 30 metres from the house is often past dependable Wi-Fi, which becomes an access point job. Most residents here rent, so a tenant should get the landlord's sign-off before changing anything wired. The card keeps footage in the property rather than on a foreign server, but in an apartment it also records neighbours in the corridor, so check the building's rules. The UAE warranty runs 12 months.

Questions about the SwitchBot Video Doorbell

What is the SwitchBot Video Doorbell?
Chevron down icon
It is a 2K video doorbell with a 165 degree ultra-wide camera, colour night vision and two-way talk. It replaces your bell push, alerts your phone and its plug-in chime, and records to a memory card. It is a camera and intercom, not a lock, so it does not open the door by itself.

Will it fit my apartment or villa door?
Chevron down icon
Yes to both. It mounts on the door frame or the wall beside it, flat or on the included corner wedge, and replaces only the bell push, not the lock. So it works with any door and any lock. Apartments with no doorbell wiring run it on battery, and villa doors with a bell circuit can wire it.

Can a tenant use it, and will the landlord allow it?
Chevron down icon
On battery it needs no wiring and no drilling if you use the adhesive mount, so most tenants can fit it and take it when they leave. If you want to hardwire it, or pair it with a SwitchBot lock on the entrance, get the landlord's written sign-off first, since that touches the door and the wiring.

Who installs it, and can I fit it myself?
Chevron down icon
On battery it is a DIY job: charge it, mount the plate, clip the unit on, and set it up in the app in about fifteen minutes. Wiring it to an existing 5V doorbell circuit, or pairing it with a SwitchBot lock on the door, is where our team is worth booking so it is done once and cleanly.

Does it need Wi-Fi, or a separate hub?
Chevron down icon
It needs your home 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and the signal has to reach the door. No SwitchBot hub is required for the doorbell itself. A hub only comes in if you want it working alongside other SwitchBot gear in wider automations. Bluetooth is used for the initial setup, not for day-to-day video.

Does it work with Alexa and Google Home?
Chevron down icon
Yes. You can view the feed and get door alerts on an Alexa or Google screen or speaker, which is handy if you already own one. It also streams to Home Assistant over RTSP for advanced users. There is no native Apple Home support, so an Apple household is better off with the Aqara G4.

Does it have a fingerprint reader or face recognition, and how do they cope with Dubai heat?
Chevron down icon
Neither. This is a doorbell camera, not a lock, so there is no fingerprint pad, and it does not name faces. It uses a PIR sensor to flag human movement up to about 7.5 metres. If you want named-caller announcements, the Aqara G4 does that. Heat affects the battery here, not a sensor you touch.

How long does the battery last, and what about a power cut?
Chevron down icon
SwitchBot rates the 5000mAh battery in months per charge, but real life in Dubai is shorter on a hot, busy door. In a power cut the battery keeps the doorbell running, though your Wi-Fi router will be down, so alerts and live view pause until power and internet return. Wiring it does not change that.

Is there a mechanical key backup if it fails?
Chevron down icon
The doorbell has no lock, so there is nothing to lock you out. Your normal door key and handle are untouched. If you pair it with a SwitchBot lock to open the door, that lock keeps its own key or keypad backup, and you should check that before relying on app-only entry.

Can I give access to staff, a cleaner or guests, and see a log?
Chevron down icon
The doorbell records who called and when, with clips on the card and a history in the app, which is useful for a cleaner or a delivery you missed. It cannot grant entry on its own. To actually let someone in, you pair a SwitchBot lock, and that lock handles codes, guest access and the entry log.

Is it secure, can it be hacked?
Chevron down icon
Traffic to the app is encrypted, and keeping footage on the local card rather than the cloud reduces what sits on outside servers. As with any connected camera, use a strong, unique password and turn on two-step verification in the SwitchBot app. Keep the firmware updated, and put it on your main Wi-Fi, not a guest network.

Can more than one person use the app?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The main account can share the doorbell with family members so everyone gets calls and can answer them. You control who is added and can remove them later. For a household with staff, share with the people who genuinely need it and keep the admin account to yourself.

Does anything work offline?
Chevron down icon
Recording to the card continues locally, but a doorbell is only useful live, and live view, phone alerts and two-way talk all need the internet. If your connection drops, you get the clips later once it returns, but you will not be alerted in the moment. A steady router near the door matters.

What is in the box?
Chevron down icon
The version we price includes the doorbell, a mounting plate and corner wedge, wall plugs and screws, an adhesive backing option, a USB charging cable, the plug-in indoor chime and the guide. A memory card is not included on this version. The monitor-bundle version instead adds a 4.3 inch screen and a small card.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
It carries a 12-month manufacturer warranty through authorised SwitchBot listings in the UAE. Buy from a proper local seller, not a grey import, so the warranty is honoured here without shipping the unit abroad. We help with setup and any claim if you buy the doorbell and its installation through us.

How much is it, and how do I buy it from you?
Chevron down icon
The doorbell is around 366 dirhams on Amazon.ae for the chime version. We can supply it, or fit it as part of a smart entrance with a SwitchBot lock, and quote the installation separately after a quick look at your door. Send us your building type and we will confirm the right version and price.

How does it compare to the Tapo D225?
Chevron down icon
The Tapo D225 uses a tall vertical frame built around the doorstep, so it is the better pick if seeing a parcel on the floor is your main reason to buy. The SwitchBot is now cheaper, has colour night vision, and wins clearly if you want it paired with a SwitchBot lock on the same door.

How does it compare to the Aqara G4?
Chevron down icon
The Aqara G4 is the choice for an Apple household, since it supports Apple Home and can announce a known caller by name, and it costs more. The SwitchBot has no Apple Home support but a sharper 2K picture and the SwitchBot lock link. Pick on which ecosystem your home already runs.

Who should not buy this doorbell?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if your home runs on Apple Home, if you want face recognition, or if you have no interest in SwitchBot locks and just want the cheapest good doorbell, where the eufy C30 wins. Also skip it if your only Wi-Fi is 5GHz with no 2.4GHz band, because this doorbell needs 2.4GHz.

Does it include a lock, or can it open the door?
Chevron down icon
No lock is included, and the doorbell cannot open a door on its own. It can trigger a separately bought SwitchBot lock, such as the Lock Pro or Lock Ultra, to release from the app or, on the monitor version, a one-touch button. Without a SwitchBot lock, it stays a camera and intercom.

Chime version or monitor version, which should I get?
Chevron down icon
The camera is identical on both. The version we price adds a plug-in chime that rings inside the flat, which most people want and is reliably in stock. The dearer version swaps the chime for a 4.3 inch indoor screen, a small console for answering the door. Tell us which suits your hallway.

Do I have to pay a subscription?
Chevron down icon
No. It records to a microSD card, up to 512GB, and history stays on the card with no plan. A cloud plan is optional, with a 30-day trial for new buyers, if you also want an off-device copy. The card is not included on the chime version, so add one when you order.

Will it show a parcel left on the floor?
Chevron down icon
The 165 degree ultra-wide lens frames a caller head to toe and takes in a fair bit of the step, better than a plain wide doorbell. If parcels on the ground are the whole reason you are buying, the Tapo D225 and Aqara G4 use a taller vertical frame built specifically around the doorstep.

Can I skip charging with the solar panel or wiring?
Chevron down icon
Yes. If your door has existing 5V doorbell wiring, hardwiring it keeps the camera permanently powered with no charging. Where there is no wiring but the door catches sun, the optional SwitchBot solar panel trickle-charges the battery. Both are worth it in Dubai, where a hot wall drains a doorbell faster than the rating suggests.

It lists Matter, so can I add it to Apple Home that way?
Chevron down icon
Not as a video doorbell. The Matter support here is narrow: it is for pairing the doorbell with a SwitchBot lock so the two work together. It does not put the camera into Apple Home, and Matter does not yet carry doorbell video in general. For Apple Home, choose the Aqara G4.
