Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Hub 3 is the model to buy if SwitchBot is going to be a real part of the house rather than one curtain motor. It carries Matter bridging so SwitchBot devices land in Apple Home, Alexa, Google and SmartThings as proper accessories, it reads temperature and humidity on a front display, and it adds a physical rotary knob and buttons that run scenes and adjust devices without a phone in hand. Infrared coverage is improved over the earlier hubs, which matters in a villa living room where the AC indoor unit is high on a far wall. It supports a larger set of bridged devices than the Hub 2, so a household with several curtain motors, a lock and a few bots does not run into a ceiling. The honest limitation is unchanged across the SwitchBot range: this is a bridge into a cloud-backed system, not a local automation controller. Schedules and remote access want internet. For a Dubai household that has committed to SwitchBot curtains and locks and wants one device tying them into Apple Home with wall controls that anybody can use, this is the current flagship and the one worth the extra over the Hub 2.

  • Brings the whole SwitchBot range into Apple Home through Matter
  • Knob and buttons on the wall for people who will not use an app
  • Longer infrared reach for high-mounted AC indoor units
  • Room for several curtain motors, locks and bots on one hub

What to check before you order

The infrared reach is the upgrade that shows in a Dubai villa. Living room and majlis AC indoor units are usually mounted high on a far wall, and the older hubs often needed to be placed awkwardly to reach them. The knob is the other genuine gain: it gives housekeeping and guests a physical control for lighting and curtains without adding anyone to the home app. Mount it on an internal wall out of AC airflow so the temperature reading is honest. One hub per property is the right planning assumption for the Matter bridging, though additional infrared bridges are still needed for ACs in other rooms because infrared does not pass through walls.

Questions about the SwitchBot Matter-Enabled Hub 3

Is the Hub 3 worth the extra over the Hub 2?
Chevron down icon
If you have more than two or three SwitchBot devices, yes. You get a higher bridged device ceiling, better infrared reach for a high-mounted AC, and physical controls that make the system usable by people who will never open the app. With a single curtain motor and one AC, the Hub 2 does the same job for less.

Does it replace a Zigbee hub?

No. It bridges SwitchBot's own Bluetooth devices and adds infrared and Matter. It does not carry Zigbee sensors, switches or curtain motors from other brands. A villa running Aqara or similar hardware still needs its Zigbee hub, and the two sit side by side.

What happens during an internet outage?

Devices already bridged into Apple Home over Matter keep responding locally, and the knob and buttons still work. SwitchBot's own schedules, remote access and cloud automations stop until the connection returns. That is the trade-off with every cloud-backed hub and it is why villa lighting and curtains are better based on a locally controlled system.

We supply this as part of a working system rather than as a box. That means checking it suits your property first, fitting it properly, setting up the automations that make it useful, and showing your household how it works.
