Overview

What it is and where it fits

The camera to specify when the budget allows and the position matters, such as a villa main gate or a front entrance. It accepts either PoE or Wi-Fi, which is a genuine advantage: run a cable where you can and fall back to wireless where you cannot, without changing product. IP65 sealing and a manufacturer range of minus thirty to fifty degrees put it at the top of what any consumer camera here tolerates outdoors. It is a 4MP camera with an AI chip doing detection on the device rather than in a cloud service, which means face, vehicle, animal and package recognition run locally and keep working when the internet drops. It also acts as an Aqara Zigbee hub, so an outdoor camera can carry the sensors around the property. Recording goes to a microSD card or to network storage, and it supports HomeKit Secure Video for Apple households, with no Aqara subscription required in either case. The one caveat worth stating: at this price the comparison is no longer with the other Wi-Fi cameras here but with a PoE system. Four Hikvision bullets and an NVR cover a villa more completely than two G5 Pros will.

  • PoE or Wi-Fi, so one product suits a cabled or an uncabled position
  • Detection runs on the camera, so it works when the internet is down
  • Doubles as the Aqara Zigbee hub for sensors around the property
  • Local or HomeKit recording with no camera subscription

What to check before you order

The fifty degree upper rating and IP65 sealing make this the most tolerant Wi-Fi camera in this file for a Dubai exterior, and it is what we specify for a villa main gate where the view is worth paying for. That rating still assumes the housing itself is not sitting in direct August sun on a west elevation, where surface temperature runs well above shaded air. Mount under a soffit or a canopy. If the position can take a Cat6 run, use PoE: one cable for power and data, no adapter to weatherproof and no reliance on Wi-Fi reaching the gate, which in a large villa plot with blockwork and a boundary wall is a real problem more often than people expect. On-device AI matters here for a specific reason: detection keeps working through an internet outage, so a camera at the gate is not blind whenever the line drops. Keep the frame inside your own boundary.

Questions about the Aqara G5 Pro Outdoor Camera (PoE/Wi-Fi)

Should I use it on PoE or Wi-Fi?
Chevron down icon
PoE wherever a cable can reach. It gives continuous power over one run, removes an adapter that would otherwise need weatherproofing outdoors, and takes the camera off a wireless network that struggles to reach a villa gate through blockwork. Use Wi-Fi where cabling is genuinely not possible, which is what the dual option is for.

Is it worth the price over the EZVIZ H8C?
Chevron down icon
For a main gate or a front entrance, yes: higher resolution, a wider temperature range, on-device detection that survives an internet outage, PoE as an option and hub duty for Aqara sensors. For a side gate or a rear yard it is over-specified, and the H8C or the IMOU covers those positions for a fraction of the cost.

Does it need a subscription?

No. Record to a microSD card or network storage, or use HomeKit Secure Video through an existing iCloud plan. Nothing about the camera renews annually, and footage stays in the property or in your own Apple account rather than a camera vendor's cloud.

Does a camera like this fall under SIRA?
Chevron down icon
A homeowner covering their own villa for personal use is generally outside SIRA's scope. SIRA regulates Dubai's security industry, including monitored systems, commercial premises and cameras covering shared or public areas, where approved equipment and a licensed installer are required. This is a consumer camera and is not SIRA approved equipment, so if your coverage extends beyond your own property, check before installing.
