Overview

What it is and where it fits

The lowest-cost camera in this file that genuinely belongs outdoors, and a sound choice for a villa side gate or a car port where you want a deterrent rather than forensic detail. Built-in spotlights give full-colour images after dark instead of the grey infrared picture most cheap cameras produce, and colour is what makes clothing and vehicles identifiable in a clip. A 110dB siren can be triggered by AI human detection or fired manually from the app, which is the part that changes behaviour at a gate. Resolution is 1080p and the sensor is 2MP, so treat it as a camera that tells you what happened rather than one that identifies a stranger at twenty metres. Recording goes to a microSD card, with the Imou Life cloud plan optional. It is mains powered, so it needs a supply at the mounting point. The human detection filter matters more outdoors than indoors: without it, a camera facing a driveway in Dubai will alert on every cat, every gust through a palm and every headlight sweep. Stock was low at the time of checking, so confirm availability before planning around it.

  • Colour footage after dark rather than grey infrared
  • Siren that can be fired from your phone while you watch
  • Alerts on people instead of on cats and headlights
  • Records to a card, so no subscription is needed

What to check before you order

Heat is the constraint that decides whether an outdoor camera in Dubai lasts three years or one summer. The manufacturer range goes to sixty degrees, which sounds generous until you measure a west-facing villa wall in August: direct sun on a dark plastic housing puts the case well above the shaded air temperature, and every camera in this category ages faster in that position. Mount it under a soffit, an eave or the underside of a car port canopy wherever the view allows. It costs nothing extra and it is the single most useful thing an installer can do for the life of the unit. Being mains powered, it wants a spur or an outdoor socket at the mounting point, which in a finished villa usually means running from the nearest external light circuit. Aim it down your own driveway or gate line rather than across a boundary wall into the neighbouring plot.

Questions about the IMOU Bullet 2 Outdoor Camera (2MP, 1080p)

Why does colour night vision matter?
Chevron down icon
Because infrared footage is grey, and grey footage loses the details that make a clip useful: the colour of a car, the colour of a shirt. Spotlights on this camera give a colour image at night at the cost of a visible light, which most people find acceptable at a side gate or a car port and less so under a bedroom window.

Does the siren do anything real?
Chevron down icon
It interrupts. A 110dB siren firing on a side gate at night makes someone leave, and that is the honest limit of what it does. It does not summon anyone and it does not make the property secure. Treat it as a deterrent attached to a recording, and keep expectations there.

Can I run it on battery instead?
Chevron down icon
No. It is a mains camera and needs continuous power at the mounting point. If cabling is the obstacle, look at the Tapo C401 or the eufy SoloCam S220, both of which run on battery and accept the trade-offs that come with it.
