Understand this before anything else: an ecobee cannot control a typical UAE split or fan-coil system on its own. It needs a wired conversion adapter, a Dropair Mini6 or Mini6s for most brands, or the Fujitsu UTY-TTRX for O'General. Budget for both parts and a professional install. With the adapter in place, the Premium is the strongest wall thermostat available here. It replaces the existing wall control with a proper touchscreen, adds a built-in air quality sensor and a microphone that listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and has Alexa on board so the thermostat doubles as a voice point. The part that matters in a villa is SmartSensor room balancing: remote sensors placed in bedrooms let the thermostat average or prioritise occupied rooms rather than heating and cooling to whatever the hallway feels, which is the standard complaint in Dubai villas where one bedroom is always too warm. If your home runs wall-mounted splits with handheld remotes and you want a simple retrofit, an infrared controller is the cheaper and more sensible answer.

The single fact that decides this purchase in Dubai is wiring. ecobee is built for the 24V heating and cooling systems common in North America, and almost no UAE home has that. Villas and apartments here run wall-mounted split units or fan-coil units fed from a chilled water loop, and neither speaks the language an ecobee expects. A wired conversion adapter sits between the two: Dropair Mini6 or Mini6s covers Samsung, LG, Gree, Midea, Daikin and Carrier, while O'General equipment, which is very common in older Dubai villa stock, needs the Fujitsu UTY-TTRX. That adds AED 600 to 800 in hardware plus install labour, and it is wiring work at the fan-coil or indoor unit, not a plug-in job. In multi-zone villas you need one thermostat and one adapter per zone. Tell us the AC brand and the model number on the indoor unit before ordering, because the adapter choice depends entirely on it.
