Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Netro Sprite is a smart irrigation controller that runs your existing sprinkler system for you. It wires into the same 24V valves a normal timer uses, then connects to your home Wi-Fi and takes over the schedule. Instead of watering on fixed days, it checks the local Dubai forecast, the plant and soil types you set in the app, and skips or trims watering when rain or cooler weather means the garden does not need it. That matters here, where water is expensive and most gardens are over-watered. It handles up to 12 zones plus a master valve, so it suits a full villa garden with separate beds, lawn, and drip lines. The controller itself is meant to sit indoors in a dry spot such as a garage or utility cupboard, with the valve wiring running out to the garden. There is no screen on the box. Everything lives in the free Netro app, including schedules, a 60-day watering history, and access for a gardener or family member. Who it suits: villa owners and long-term tenants with a real garden and a wired sprinkler system already in place. Apartment residents with only a balcony will not need 12 zones. Honest limits: it needs 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (no 5GHz), it must stay powered all the time, and it does not work with Apple Home. If those are fine, it is a strong, low-cost way to cut your watering bill.

  • Waters up to 12 zones automatically using the live Dubai weather forecast
  • Free cloud scheduling for the life of the device, with no subscription
  • Rain-skip and freeze protection cut wasted water and your bill
  • Works with Alexa and Google, plus multi-user access in the app

What to check before you order

Dubai gardens get almost no rain for months, so most of the Sprite's savings come from stopping over-watering rather than skipping rain days. Set the plant and soil types honestly and it trims summer schedules to match real need. The controller runs on 24VAC from its adapter, which plugs into a standard UAE Type-G socket, so keep it near a wall point in the garage or utility room. It is rated to 50C, but mount it indoors, out of direct sun and dust, since our summer heat and fine sand are hard on any electronics left outside. Wi-Fi is the main thing to check: it needs a 2.4GHz signal, and in a large villa the garage can sit at the edge of the router's reach, so a mesh node nearby helps. Warranty is Netro's own 2-year cover through the Amazon.ae seller. We can supply, install, and set up the app for you across Dubai and the northern emirates.

Questions about the Netro Sprite Smart Sprinkler Controller (12-Zone)

What is the Netro Sprite 12-Zone?
Chevron down icon
It is a smart sprinkler controller. It replaces your old garden timer, wires into the same valves, and connects to Wi-Fi. From then on it waters your garden on a schedule that adjusts to the local weather and to the plants you have, all managed from your phone.

Is it a good fit for a Dubai villa?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Villas usually have a proper garden with a wired sprinkler system, several beds, a lawn, and drip lines. The 12 zones plus a master valve cover most villa layouts. If your garden has more than 12 separate zones, look at the 16-zone Rachio instead.

I live in an apartment. Should I buy this?
Chevron down icon
Probably not. A 12-zone controller is built for a full garden with underground valves. If you only have a balcony or a few pots, it is far too much. A simple tap timer or a Gardena unit suits balcony watering much better.

Does it need Wi-Fi to work?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The Sprite runs through your home Wi-Fi and the Netro cloud. It needs a steady 2.4GHz signal to pull the weather forecast and follow your schedule. Without internet it cannot update its plan, so a reliable connection at the mounting spot matters.

Do I need a separate hub or bridge?
Chevron down icon
No. There is no extra hub to buy. The controller talks straight to your router over Wi-Fi, then to the Netro cloud. You only need the box itself, a power socket nearby, and your existing sprinkler valves already in the ground.

Is there a monthly subscription?
Chevron down icon
No. The cloud scheduling, weather data, and app features are free for the life of the device. Netro does not charge a subscription. You pay once for the hardware and that is it, which is a real saving over some rival controllers.

Which app controls it?
Chevron down icon
The free Netro app, on iPhone and Android. You set your zones, plants, and soil there, and it shows a 60-day watering history. You can also add other users, so a family member or gardener gets access without your login.

Does it work with Amazon Alexa?
Chevron down icon
Yes. You can link it to Alexa and start or stop watering by voice, for example telling Alexa to water the lawn. The core scheduling still happens in the Netro app. Voice is just a handy extra for quick manual runs.

Does it work with Google Home?
Chevron down icon
Yes. It links with Google Home and Google Assistant, so you can trigger watering by voice through a Nest speaker or your phone. It also supports IFTTT if you want to connect it to other routines. You do not lose any Google feature.

Does it work with Apple Home or HomeKit?
Chevron down icon
No. The Sprite does not support Apple HomeKit. If you run an all-Apple smart home and want everything inside the Home app, this is a genuine limit. You would still control the Sprite through its own app, just not through Apple Home or Siri.

How does it actually save water?
Chevron down icon
It checks the local forecast and your plant and soil settings, then waters only as much as the garden needs. It skips rain days, trims cooler days, and stops the daily over-watering most timers cause. In Dubai the big saving comes from not watering more than plants can use.

Will it cope with Dubai summer heat?
Chevron down icon
The box is rated from -20C to 50C, but it is meant to be mounted indoors in a dry spot like the garage. Kept out of direct sun it is fine through our summer. Only the valves and pipes sit outside, and those are built for it.

What about dust and sand?
Chevron down icon
Because the controller lives indoors, dust is not a big worry for the unit itself. Keep the garage spot clean and the vents clear. Your sprinkler heads and filters outside will need the usual cleaning that any Dubai garden system needs to stop sand clogging them.

Does it use a UAE Type-G plug?
Chevron down icon
It comes with a 24V power adapter for our 220-240V supply. Units sold for the UAE use the standard three-pin Type-G plug. Plug it into a wall point near where you mount the controller and leave it on. If you get a different plug head, a simple adapter sorts it.

Is it battery powered?
Chevron down icon
No. It is hardwired and must stay powered all the time from its adapter. There is no battery backup. If power to the socket is cut, watering pauses until it comes back, though your saved schedule stays safe in the cloud.

What does it cost to run?
Chevron down icon
Very little. It draws a small amount of standby power like any always-on smart device, so the electricity cost is tiny. The real money question is water: by cutting over-watering, most gardens use noticeably less, which shows up on your DEWA bill.

Who installs it? Can you set it up?
Chevron down icon
If you already have a wired sprinkler system, swapping an old timer for the Sprite is a wiring job an electrician or irrigation tech does quickly. We can supply it, install it, and set up the app and zones for you across Dubai and the northern emirates.

Can I control the garden while I am abroad?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Because it works through the cloud, you can check and change watering from anywhere with internet, which is useful during long summer trips. You can also give a house-sitter or gardener their own app access so they can help without your account.

My router is dual-band. Will 5GHz work?
Chevron down icon
No. The Sprite connects only on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, not 5GHz. Many routers broadcast both under one name, which can confuse setup. It helps to split the bands or briefly point your phone at the 2.4GHz network while pairing, especially in a large villa.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Netro gives a 2-year limited hardware warranty. The unit is sold in the UAE through the brand's own seller on Amazon.ae, so warranty claims go through that channel. If you buy and have us install it, we help you with setup and any early issues directly.

How much is it and how do I buy from you?
Chevron down icon
It sells for around AED 355 on Amazon.ae, where it is in stock. We can supply the same unit and, unlike a plain online order, wire it in and set up the app for you. Ask us for today's price with installation across Dubai.

How does it compare to a Rachio?
Chevron down icon
Rachio controllers are the better-known premium option and tie into more smart-home systems, including HomeKit. The Netro Sprite does the same core job, weather-based watering, for a lot less and with free cloud service for life. If you want HomeKit or 16 zones, look at Rachio.

Who should not buy this?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if you only have a balcony, if your home runs entirely on Apple Home, or if your garden needs more than 12 zones. If your Wi-Fi does not reach the garage on 2.4GHz, fix that first, or the controller cannot do its job.

Do I need the Netro soil sensor as well?
Chevron down icon
No. The Sprite works well on weather data alone. Netro's Whisperer soil-moisture sensor is an optional add-on, sold separately, that gives ground-level readings for tighter watering. Most Dubai gardens run fine without it, so treat it as a later upgrade, not a must-have.
