The eufy FamiLock S3 Max is a US-style smart deadbolt with a palm reader, a 2K doorbell camera and a 4-inch screen on the inside. It suits a Dubai owner whose door is already drilled for an American deadbolt. Most local doors are not, so we check yours first. You hold your palm near the outside unit and it reads the vein pattern under the skin, which works with wet, dusty or worn hands. There is also a keypad, the eufy Security app, voice control and a backup key. The camera doubles as a video doorbell, and clips save to 16GB of storage inside the lock, so no subscription is needed. Anyone inside can check the door on the screen without a phone. It runs on a 15,000mAh rechargeable battery with four AAA cells as a backup, and it connects straight to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so there is no hub to buy. The fit is the catch. This lock needs a round 54 mm hole through the face of the door, 60 or 70 mm in from the edge, on a door 35 to 55 mm thick. Typical Dubai villa and apartment doors use a European mortise lock instead, a rectangular lock case set into the door edge with a lever handle. On those doors the S3 Max means drilling a new hole, which is permanent and not allowed on fire-rated tower doors. It is also large and heavy on the door. If your door has a mortise lock, a mortise video lock is usually the better choice.

This is an American deadbolt, and that decides everything in Dubai. A US door is drilled with a round 54 mm hole through its face for the lock. Most villa and apartment doors here use a European mortise lock, a rectangular case slotted into the door edge, so that hole does not exist. We inspect the door before we sell or fit this lock. It suits doors already prepared for US hardware, new solid timber doors that can be drilled to suit, and villa side or annex doors you own that are 35 to 55 mm thick. Many large villa main doors are thicker than 55 mm. Tower apartment entrance doors are usually fire-rated, and drilling them breaks the rating, so building management will normally refuse. Tenants need written landlord approval, and a new hole cannot be undone. For sun-facing villa doors, add shade. Wi-Fi must be 2.4GHz and strong at the door, and dust on the camera lens needs a regular wipe.
