Govee is the correct choice for accent lighting that is about effect rather than finish quality, and it costs a fraction of the alternative. The RGBIC part is genuine and worth understanding: the strip is segmented, so it can show several colours along its length at once rather than one colour end to end. Behind a television, along a gaming desk or under a kitchen counter that looks considerably better than a single-colour strip and it is the reason this model outsells the plain ones. It runs on Wi-Fi with no hub, works with Alexa and Google, and has music sync built into the app. Where it falls short is exactly where Hue earns its money: at very low brightness the colour shifts and the dimming steps become visible, which matters in a designed cove and does not matter behind a screen. It is also a plug-in product, so it needs a socket within reach of the strip end. For a five metre run of accent lighting with no wiring works, this is the right amount to spend.

Stocked widely on Amazon.ae and Microless with a Type-G plug on the adapter, so it works in a UAE socket with nothing extra. It needs a socket near the strip, which is the practical constraint in Dubai apartments where sockets behind a television are often already occupied by the screen and a sound bar. It is an adhesive product, so on a freshly painted gypsum wall it will occasionally lift in summer heat, and we run a bead of clear silicone at the corners on longer runs. For cove lighting inside a ceiling detail, spend the extra on Hue.
