What is the Philips Hue Go 2.0?

Do I need Wi-Fi to use it?

No. The Go connects straight to your phone over Bluetooth, so it works without Wi-Fi and without internet. You only need Wi-Fi and the Hue Bridge if you want to control it from outside the house or through Alexa, Google or Apple Home.

Does it need a hub or the Hue Bridge?

Not for everyday use. Out of the box you pair it over Bluetooth with the Hue app and control colour, brightness and effects. The Hue Bridge is only needed if you want voice assistants, remote control away from home, or to run it as part of a larger Hue setup.

Which app controls it?

The free Philips Hue app, on iPhone or Android. There is a Bluetooth version of the app for use without a bridge, and the full app once you add a bridge. You can also change colour and cycle the seven effects using the physical button on top of the lamp.

Is there any subscription or monthly fee?

No. The lamp and the Hue app are yours to use with no ongoing fee. Everything, including colours, white tuning and the preset effects, is free. There is no cloud plan to pay for, whether you use it over Bluetooth or add the Hue Bridge later.

Does it work with Amazon Alexa?

Yes, but you need the separate Hue Bridge. Once the Go is on the bridge, you link Hue to Alexa and can then turn it on or off, dim it and change colours by voice. Over Bluetooth alone, without the bridge, Alexa control is not available.

Does it work with Google Assistant?

Yes, with the Hue Bridge added. After connecting the Go to the bridge and linking Hue to your Google account, you can control it from Google Home speakers and the app. On Bluetooth only, without the bridge, Google voice control will not work.

Does it work with Apple Home and Siri?

Yes, once you add the Hue Bridge. The bridge gives HomeKit support, so the Go shows up in the Apple Home app and responds to Siri. The standalone Bluetooth setup does not include HomeKit, so plan for a bridge if Apple Home matters to you.

Yes, especially for renters. There is no wiring, drilling or fixed install, so it suits a leased flat and moves with you when you shift. Use it as mood lighting on a shelf, a side table or the balcony. Just remember it is an accent light, not your main ceiling light.

Yes, as a movable accent light. You can carry it from the majlis to a bedroom or out to a covered patio in the evening. In a big villa, note that Bluetooth range is short, so add the Hue Bridge if you want to control it from other rooms.

You can use it on a sheltered balcony or covered patio. It is not waterproof though. The rating is IP20, which means indoor use, so keep it away from rain, sprinklers and pool splashes. Bring it inside if the weather turns or you are watering plants nearby.

How long does the battery last?

About three hours at full brightness on a single charge. On low-draw settings like the Cosy Candle effect it can run up to around 18 hours. Real time depends on how bright you set it and which colours you use, since deeper colours can drain the battery a little faster.

How do I charge it, and does it use a UAE plug?

It charges on the included base with the supplied adapter, which plugs into a normal UAE Type-G socket on 220-240V. There are no batteries to buy or replace. A full charge takes a couple of hours, then you lift it off the base and carry it anywhere.

Can I use it while it is charging?

Yes. You can leave it sitting on its charging base and use it like a normal plugged-in lamp, which is handy for long evenings. When you want to move it to another room or the balcony, just pick it up off the base and the battery takes over.
