Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Philips Hue Go 2.0 is a small, battery-powered smart light you can pick up and move around the house. It has a rounded, egg-like shape and glows in 16 million colours plus warm-to-cool white from 2000K to 6500K. Out of the box it works on its own over Bluetooth, so you pair it with the free Philips Hue app on your phone and control brightness, colour and effects. No hub is needed for basic use. There are seven built-in light effects like Cosy Candle and Enchanted Forest that you cycle with the button on top. For a Dubai apartment, it suits a renter who wants nice mood lighting without drilling or wiring. Set it on a shelf, a side table or the balcony in the evening. In a villa, it works as a portable accent light you carry from the majlis to the bedroom, or out to a covered patio. The battery lasts about three hours at full brightness and much longer on gentle effects, then charges on the included base. Honest limits: it is an accent light, not a room's main light. Output tops out around 530 lumens, so it sets a mood rather than lighting a whole space. It is rated IP20, meaning indoor use, so keep it away from rain and pool splashes. To add Alexa, Google or Apple Home voice control, you need the separate Hue Bridge.

  • Cordless and rechargeable, so you move it anywhere without a wall socket
  • 16 million colours and warm-to-cool white, all set from your phone

What to check before you order

Dubai homes run on 220-240V with the three-pin Type-G plug, and the Hue Go's charger works fine on it. The lamp charges over its base, so once it is topped up you can carry it anywhere with no cable. That is handy in summer when you want soft light on a shaded balcony after sunset without running an extension lead outside. Keep the heat in mind. This is a Li-ion battery, so do not leave the lamp in a parked car or in direct afternoon sun on a west-facing windowsill. Room temperature and normal AC conditions are ideal for battery life. Dust is easy to wipe off the smooth shell with a dry cloth. Across a large villa, Bluetooth range is short, so you control the Go when you are near it. If you want app or voice control from another room, add the Hue Bridge, which uses Zigbee mesh. We supply the Go with the local two-year Philips (Signify) warranty and can help you set it up.

Questions about the Philips Hue Go Portable Lamp

What is the Philips Hue Go 2.0?
Chevron down icon
It is a small, portable smart lamp from the Philips Hue White and Colour Ambiance range. It runs on a built-in rechargeable battery, so you can move it around the home with no cable. It gives coloured or white light and a few soft glow effects, controlled from your phone or the button on top.

Do I need Wi-Fi to use it?
Chevron down icon
No. The Go connects straight to your phone over Bluetooth, so it works without Wi-Fi and without internet. You only need Wi-Fi and the Hue Bridge if you want to control it from outside the house or through Alexa, Google or Apple Home.

Does it need a hub or the Hue Bridge?
Chevron down icon
Not for everyday use. Out of the box you pair it over Bluetooth with the Hue app and control colour, brightness and effects. The Hue Bridge is only needed if you want voice assistants, remote control away from home, or to run it as part of a larger Hue setup.

Which app controls it?
Chevron down icon
The free Philips Hue app, on iPhone or Android. There is a Bluetooth version of the app for use without a bridge, and the full app once you add a bridge. You can also change colour and cycle the seven effects using the physical button on top of the lamp.

Is there any subscription or monthly fee?
Chevron down icon
No. The lamp and the Hue app are yours to use with no ongoing fee. Everything, including colours, white tuning and the preset effects, is free. There is no cloud plan to pay for, whether you use it over Bluetooth or add the Hue Bridge later.

Does it work with Amazon Alexa?
Chevron down icon
Yes, but you need the separate Hue Bridge. Once the Go is on the bridge, you link Hue to Alexa and can then turn it on or off, dim it and change colours by voice. Over Bluetooth alone, without the bridge, Alexa control is not available.

Does it work with Google Assistant?
Chevron down icon
Yes, with the Hue Bridge added. After connecting the Go to the bridge and linking Hue to your Google account, you can control it from Google Home speakers and the app. On Bluetooth only, without the bridge, Google voice control will not work.

Does it work with Apple Home and Siri?
Chevron down icon
Yes, once you add the Hue Bridge. The bridge gives HomeKit support, so the Go shows up in the Apple Home app and responds to Siri. The standalone Bluetooth setup does not include HomeKit, so plan for a bridge if Apple Home matters to you.

Is it a good choice for a Dubai apartment?
Chevron down icon
Yes, especially for renters. There is no wiring, drilling or fixed install, so it suits a leased flat and moves with you when you shift. Use it as mood lighting on a shelf, a side table or the balcony. Just remember it is an accent light, not your main ceiling light.

Does it suit a villa?
Chevron down icon
Yes, as a movable accent light. You can carry it from the majlis to a bedroom or out to a covered patio in the evening. In a big villa, note that Bluetooth range is short, so add the Hue Bridge if you want to control it from other rooms.

Can I use it outdoors on my balcony? Is it waterproof?
Chevron down icon
You can use it on a sheltered balcony or covered patio. It is not waterproof though. The rating is IP20, which means indoor use, so keep it away from rain, sprinklers and pool splashes. Bring it inside if the weather turns or you are watering plants nearby.

How long does the battery last?
Chevron down icon
About three hours at full brightness on a single charge. On low-draw settings like the Cosy Candle effect it can run up to around 18 hours. Real time depends on how bright you set it and which colours you use, since deeper colours can drain the battery a little faster.

How do I charge it, and does it use a UAE plug?
Chevron down icon
It charges on the included base with the supplied adapter, which plugs into a normal UAE Type-G socket on 220-240V. There are no batteries to buy or replace. A full charge takes a couple of hours, then you lift it off the base and carry it anywhere.

Can I use it while it is charging?
Chevron down icon
Yes. You can leave it sitting on its charging base and use it like a normal plugged-in lamp, which is handy for long evenings. When you want to move it to another room or the balcony, just pick it up off the base and the battery takes over.

How bright is it? Can it light a whole room?
Chevron down icon
It gives 370 lumens in warm white and up to about 530 lumens in cooler white. That is enough for mood lighting, a reading corner or a dinner table glow, but not to light a full room. Treat it as an accent light alongside your main lights.

Will Dubai summer heat damage it?
Chevron down icon
Used indoors under AC, it is fine. The thing to avoid is heat stress on the Li-ion battery, so do not leave it in a parked car or baking on a sunny windowsill for hours. Store and charge it at room temperature and the battery will last longer.

Does dust affect it?
Chevron down icon
Not much. The shell is smooth, so Dubai's fine dust wipes off with a dry or slightly damp cloth. There are no exposed vents or fans to clog. Keep the charging contacts on the base clean so the lamp seats properly and charges every time.

What are the light effects?
Chevron down icon
It has seven preset effects built in, including Cosy Candle, Enchanted Forest and Night Adventure. You cycle through them with the button on the top of the lamp, or pick them in the Hue app. Cosy Candle is the gentle flicker that also gives the longest battery life.

Does it make any noise?
Chevron down icon
No. It is a solid-state LED light with no fan and no moving parts, so it runs silently. That makes it fine for a bedroom or a child's room as a soft night light. The only sound you might hear is a faint click from the button when you press it.

Who sets it up, and is it hard?
Chevron down icon
Setup is easy and you can do it yourself. Charge it, download the Hue app, and pair over Bluetooth in a few minutes. No tools or wiring. If you also buy the Hue Bridge for voice control, we can guide you through connecting it or set it up for you.

What does it cost to run?
Chevron down icon
Very little. It is a 6W LED, so even used daily the electricity cost on your DEWA bill is tiny. You only draw power while charging, not while running on battery. There are no bulbs or batteries to replace either, so the ongoing cost is close to nothing.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
It comes with the two-year Philips Hue (Signify) manufacturer warranty. Buy it through us and we help with setup, app pairing and any questions, plus support if something goes wrong. Keep your invoice, as it is needed for any warranty claim during the two years.

How much is it and how do I buy it from you?
Chevron down icon
The current lowest UAE price we track is around AED 337. Message us for today's price, stock and delivery across Dubai and the UAE. We can also bundle it with a Hue Bridge or bulbs if you want voice control and a full lighting setup from the start.

How is it different from a normal Hue smart bulb?
Chevron down icon
A Hue bulb like the E27 screws into a fixed light fitting and needs the mains and usually the bridge. The Go is cordless and portable, so it is about placing light where you want it, not replacing a ceiling bulb. Many people happily use both together.

Who should not buy the Hue Go?
Chevron down icon
If you need to light a whole room, want a fully waterproof outdoor light, or want cheap colour bulbs for every fixture, this is not the one. It is a premium portable accent light. For general room lighting, a Hue bulb or a starter kit is a better fit.
