The S210 solves the problem that stops most older Dubai apartments from having smart lighting at all: no neutral wire at the switch box. It runs on an internal battery rather than mains power, so it does not need a neutral, and it replaces the existing rocker on a one gang plate. The trade is that it talks to a Tapo hub rather than straight to your router, so a Tapo H100 has to be in the house before it works. That hub is bought once for the property and then carries every other Tapo switch, button and sensor you add, which makes the economics work from about the third device onward. Once paired it appears in the Tapo app and in Alexa or Google, takes schedules and away mode, and still works as an ordinary wall switch for anyone who ignores all of that. For a single circuit in a rented apartment where rewiring is not an option, this is the cheapest honest route to a smart light with real UAE warranty behind it.

This is aimed squarely at older Dubai apartment stock, where the switch box has live and switched live but no neutral, and a mains powered smart switch simply cannot be fitted. Because it is battery powered it sidesteps that entirely. Budget for the Tapo H100 hub as a one-off on top of the first switch, since nothing in this range works without it. It fits the standard UK one gang aperture used throughout the UAE, so it drops into the existing back box. For a double rocker plate you want the two gang S220 instead, and for a villa running a full lighting scheme a Zigbee system on a single hub is the better foundation.
