The E1 is the right hub for an apartment with a handful of Aqara devices and nothing more ambitious planned. It is a USB dongle, not a box: it plugs into any charger or a spare port on a router and gives you a Zigbee radio strong enough to cover a one or two bedroom flat. It handles up to 32 child devices, which sounds generous until you count the sensors in a house and realise it is not. There is no ethernet port, no infrared and no siren, so it will not drive your split AC and it will not double as an alarm chime. What it does well is cost almost nothing and disappear behind furniture. Its real weakness in a Dubai flat is placement: because it takes its power from a USB port, the hub ends up wherever the socket is rather than in the centre of the home, and Zigbee range follows the hub. If your devices are spread across a long apartment, the M100 or M1S Gen 2 sits better. Treat the E1 as a starter radio you may outgrow, not as the foundation of a whole property.

This suits a one or two bedroom apartment in Marina, JVC or Downtown where every device is within about ten metres of the hub. It is the wrong choice for a villa: Zigbee range in a villa is limited by concrete and block walls, and a hub tethered to whichever USB socket exists cannot be moved to the centre of the floor plate. There is also no infrared emitter, so split AC units stay on their own remotes. One hub covers a property rather than a room, so if you are buying for a villa, buy the hub that will still be right after the third and fourth room get added.
Aqara in the UAE. Sold through several authorised UAE resellers rather than one exclusive distributor. Wide local stock and the broadest single-hub ecosystem available in UAE retail.
