Automations you build in the Aqara app run on the hub itself, so a motion-triggered light or a curtain schedule keeps working when the building internet drops, which in this city happens more often than anyone admits. Matter bridging is the reason to pick this over the older E1. Without it, Aqara devices reach other platforms through a cloud connection that adds delay and breaks when a service has a bad day. Position it centrally rather than beside the router, because Zigbee coverage radiates from the hub and apartment layouts here are often long and narrow with a service core in the middle. It runs on Wi-Fi only, so if your building suffers from congested 2.4GHz, be aware there is no ethernet fallback: that is the argument for the M2 instead. One hub per property, not per room. Split AC control is not included, since there is no infrared emitter on this model.
