Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Aqara Hub M100 is a small USB dongle that links your smart devices and feeds them into the main home platforms. It runs two radio types at once. One side handles Zigbee and Thread (the IEEE 802.15.4 standard). The other side uses 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. Because of this it works at the same time as a Matter controller, a Matter bridge and a Thread border router. Your Aqara sensors and Thread devices then appear in Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant. It plugs into any USB-A port. A phone charger, a power bank, your router or a PC all work, and there is no battery to run flat. The head swivels about 210 degrees, so you can aim the radio away from a metal cabinet or towards the rooms you use most. In a Dubai home it suits two buyers. Rent a flat and want to try Matter without drilling? This is an easy first hub. Own a villa with Aqara sensors already? It adds Thread and Matter cheaply. Two honest limits worth knowing. The Zigbee radio only pairs Aqara's own Zigbee devices, not third-party Zigbee kit. And it holds up to 20 Zigbee plus 20 Thread devices, 40 combined, so it fits a room or a small setup rather than a large villa packed with sensors.

  • Plugs into any USB port with no battery to charge or replace
  • Bridges Aqara Zigbee and Thread devices into Apple Home, Google, Alexa and SmartThings
  • Works as a Matter controller, Matter bridge and Thread border router in one unit
  • Runs automations locally for faster response and more privacy

What to check before you order

This is a plug-in hub, so there is nothing to wire and nothing to fix to a wall. That makes it simple for the roughly 70 percent of Dubai residents who rent, since no landlord permission or drilling is involved. You just need a spare USB port and Wi-Fi that reaches it. It runs on 5V from USB, so any Type-G phone charger you already own will power it. There is no adapter in the box. In a villa, place it near the middle of the house so its Thread and Zigbee signal reaches the far rooms and the gate area. Keep it out of direct sun and off hot surfaces, as summer heat inside a closed cabinet is not kind to any electronics. On support, Aqara gives a standard 1-year manufacturer warranty from the purchase date. UAE reseller altix.ae backs its own stock with a separate 1-year seller warranty, which helps if you need a local swap.

Aqara in the UAE. Sold through several authorised UAE resellers rather than one exclusive distributor. Wide local stock and the broadest single-hub ecosystem available in UAE retail.

Questions about the Aqara Hub M100

What is the Aqara Hub M100?
Chevron down icon
It is a small USB hub for your smart home. It connects Aqara Zigbee sensors and Thread devices, then shares them with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant. It also acts as a Matter controller and a Thread border router, which are the parts that make Matter work.

Will it work in my apartment or my villa?
Chevron down icon
Yes, either one. It is a small dongle that plugs into a USB port, not something tied to the size of your home. In a flat, keep it near the router. In a villa, place it centrally so the Zigbee and Thread signal reaches the rooms furthest away.

Can a tenant use it, and will the landlord mind?
Chevron down icon
A tenant can use it with no problem. There is no drilling, no wiring and nothing fixed to a wall, so you do not need landlord permission. It plugs into a USB port and moves with you when your lease ends. That makes it a safe buy for renters in Dubai.

Do I need an electrician or technician to fit it?
Chevron down icon
No. Setup is a do-it-yourself job through the Aqara Home app. You plug the hub into power, open the app, and follow the steps to add it and pair your devices. If you would rather not do it, our team can set it up and link it to your chosen platform.

Does it need Wi-Fi to work?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The M100 joins your home on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so it needs a working signal where you place it. It does not use the 5GHz band. If your router sits far from the hub, a mesh point or extender on 2.4GHz will keep the connection steady.

Is this itself a hub, or does it need another hub?
Chevron down icon
It is the hub. You do not need any other bridge or base station. Devices connect to the M100, and the M100 connects to your Wi-Fi and to platforms like Apple Home. It is the central box that ties an Aqara and Thread setup together.

Does it work with Apple Home?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Once set up, your paired Aqara and Thread devices appear in Apple Home, and you can control them with the Home app and Siri. The M100 handles the Matter and Thread side, which is what Apple Home needs to see those devices.

Does it work with Google Home and Amazon Alexa?
Chevron down icon
Yes, both. The hub bridges your devices into Google Home and Amazon Alexa, so you can control them by voice through a Nest or Echo speaker. It works with SmartThings and Home Assistant too, which is useful if your household already uses one of those.

Which Zigbee devices can I connect to it?
Chevron down icon
Only Aqara's own Zigbee devices. This is the main limit to know before you buy. The Zigbee radio will not pair random third-party Zigbee kit. For non-Aqara gear, use the Thread and Matter side instead, which follows the open standard and accepts many brands.

What Thread and Matter devices does it support?
Chevron down icon
On the Thread and Matter side it follows the open Matter standard. Today that covers lights, plugs, switches, thermostats, buttons, and motion, light, door and window, and temperature and humidity sensors. Support grows as more brands ship Matter devices, so check the device is Matter certified.

How many devices can it hold?
Chevron down icon
Up to 20 Aqara Zigbee devices and 20 Thread devices, so 40 in total. That is fine for a flat or a room-by-room start. A large villa packed with dozens of sensors may need a bigger hub like the Aqara M2, or a second hub.

Will the Dubai summer heat damage it, and where should I put it?
Chevron down icon
Kept indoors in normal room conditions it is fine. The risk is heat build-up, not Dubai air itself. Do not seal it inside a hot closed cabinet or leave it in direct sun by a window. A shaded, airy spot near your router works best all year.

What happens during a DEWA power cut?
Chevron down icon
The hub has no battery, so it switches off when the power goes and comes back on its own when power returns. Your saved automations stay stored and start working again once it reconnects to Wi-Fi. For cover during outages, plug it into a small UPS or a power bank.

Does it work offline, without internet?
Chevron down icon
Partly. Automations you set can run locally on the hub, so lights and sensors keep reacting even if the internet drops. Some things still need the internet, such as push notifications to your phone and voice control through cloud assistants. Local control makes the basics faster and more private.

Can my family and my helper all control the devices?
Chevron down icon
Yes. You share access through the platform you use, such as Apple Home or Google Home, and add family members or your helper as users there. You control what each person can see and do. This keeps daily control simple without handing out your main account password.

Is it secure, or can it be hacked?
Chevron down icon
It uses current protection, with WPA3 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2, and Matter itself is built around encrypted local control. As with any smart device, use a strong Wi-Fi password, keep the firmware updated in the Aqara app, and only pair devices you trust. Local automations also reduce cloud exposure.

What is in the box, and do I get a power plug?
Chevron down icon
You get the Hub M100 and a printed manual, nothing else. There is no power adapter and no USB cable in the box. Any Type-G phone charger or a spare router USB port will power it, so most Dubai homes already have what they need.

There are HM-G02D and HM-G02E versions. Which should I buy?
Chevron down icon
Both are the same Hub M100. The different letter is just a production batch code, and the specs and behaviour are identical. Buy whichever your seller has in stock. When we supply it, we treat both as the same product with the same warranty.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Aqara gives a standard 1-year manufacturer warranty from the purchase date. UAE reseller altix.ae also backs its own stock with a separate 1-year seller warranty, which makes a local swap easier than shipping abroad. Buy from us and we help you handle any claim here in Dubai.

How much is it and how do I buy from you?
Chevron down icon
It is one of the cheaper Matter hubs, listed around 149 AED on Amazon.ae at the time of writing. Prices move, so message us for today's rate and stock. We can also supply it as part of a wider smart-home setup and handle the pairing for you.

How does it compare to the Aqara Hub M2?
Chevron down icon
The M2 is a step up. It also does Zigbee, works as an IR remote and an alarm, and offers a wired network option some people prefer. The M100 is smaller, cheaper, and adds Thread, which the older M2 does not. Pick the M100 for a light, Thread-ready start.

Who should not buy this hub?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if you rely on lots of non-Aqara Zigbee devices, since its Zigbee radio only pairs Aqara kit. Skip it too if you want built-in IR control, an alarm siren, or capacity for a large villa full of sensors. In those cases a bigger hub suits you better.

Can it run alongside my existing Aqara hub?
Chevron down icon
Yes. You can keep an older Aqara hub for its Zigbee devices and add the M100 for Thread and Matter. They work in the same Aqara Home app. Many people use the M100 as the piece that brings an existing Aqara setup into Apple Home or Google Home through Matter.

Is the pairing reliable in real use?
Chevron down icon
It is generally reliable, though experiences vary. Some UAE buyers report that Matter over Wi-Fi is steady, while a few found Zigbee button and switch pairing less consistent. Keep the hub close enough to your devices, update the firmware, and test each device after pairing to catch any issue early.
