The Panel Hub S1 Plus is a 6.9 inch wall panel with an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub built into it, so it runs your Aqara sensors, switches, curtain motors and locks itself rather than sitting on top of a separate hub. That changes the arithmetic. At AED 1,750 it can replace a hub instead of adding to one, and it brings two wired light channels, six wireless buttons, Aqara camera streaming and power monitoring in the same box. It is a Matter bridge and not a Matter controller, so Aqara devices on it show up in Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home, but each of those still needs its own controller and non-Aqara Matter kit does not join here. In practice it is an Aqara-only panel: no third-party Zigbee devices, no other brand of camera feed, and no infrared, so it cannot drive a split AC by itself. Placement decides whether it is worth the money. On a corridor wall nobody uses it is expensive decoration. At the front door or in a majlis, where guests and staff need to change lighting without opening an app, it earns its place. The catch in Dubai is the wiring: it needs a live and a neutral at the switch box, and the terminal housing is shaped for European back boxes rather than the British squares used here.

Aqara's own installation steps have you land a live and a neutral in the L and N terminals, and older Dubai flats very often have no neutral at the switch box, which turns a panel swap into chasing and rewiring. The second is the box itself. UAE sites use British 86 x 86 mm square back boxes, and this panel's terminal housing is built around European boxes, so the fit has to be checked on site before anyone orders. The face spans 172 mm wide, well past a single box, so there also has to be clear wall to the side of the existing switch. If the wiring or the box does not work, the panel has a USB-C 5V 2A port and can be run purely as a hub and screen, with the two wired channels unused. Mains here is 220 to 240V 50Hz, which matches its 200 to 240V rating. Heat is a real limit: Aqara rates it to 40 C and indoor use only, so it belongs on a cooled internal wall, never in a lobby, stairwell or anywhere that loses cooling in summer. It has no infrared, so it cannot reach a split AC on its own, and it cannot touch the wired fan coil thermostats used in towers on Empower, Emicool or Tabreed district cooling. It holds no backup power, so a DEWA cut takes the panel and the hub with it. Cameras it streams are Aqara units you already own, and any camera covering a shared or external area falls under SIRA rules, which is a separate job. Tenants should treat it as landlord territory: it is wired into a lighting circuit and screwed to the wall, so get written approval and keep the original switch plate to put back.
