The Curtain Motor E1 is the motor we fit most often in Dubai villas, because it attaches to the U-rail track already installed in most homes and needs no rail replacement. It carries curtains up to around 12kg, runs on a rechargeable battery that lasts roughly a year of daily use, and pairs with an Aqara hub to reach Apple Home, Alexa and Google. The useful part in this climate is the automation rather than the convenience: with a temperature or sunlight trigger, the curtains close themselves when the afternoon sun hits the west glass and open again once it moves off. It also has a manual pull, so a light tug on the fabric starts the motor and the curtains still behave like curtains for anyone in the house who would rather not use an app.

Check the track profile before ordering: a boxed U-rail is fine, a plain rod is not, and a corded track needs the cord mechanism removed first. The motor needs an Aqara hub, which is a one-off purchase for the whole property rather than per curtain. In villas with curtain spans over about four metres or with heavy lined blackout fabric, use two motors on a centre-split track or move up to a full track kit rather than pushing one motor past its rated load.
