The Caseta Smart Hub (L-BDG2-WH) is the brain of a Lutron Caseta lighting system, and it is the part people forget to budget for. It is a small white puck that sits beside your router on a wired Ethernet connection, and it talks to Caseta hardware over Lutron's own Clear Connect radio at 431 to 437MHz. That is not Wi-Fi, Zigbee or Bluetooth, which is deliberate: lighting traffic stays off the crowded 2.4GHz band in every Dubai tower. One hub carries up to 75 devices, enough for a whole villa. On its own the hub controls nothing. It needs Caseta kit to talk to, meaning a plug-in lamp dimmer, a Pico remote, a Serena shade or an in-wall dimmer. Add those and you get the Lutron app, schedules, geofencing, access from outside the house, and voice through Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home and Sonos. It suits a Dubai household already committed to Caseta, often a returning resident who ran the system abroad, or a villa owner who wants lamp and shade control that keeps working when building internet goes down. Local switching and dimming carry on without internet. Only first setup and remote features need it. The honest limit is the rest of the range. The hub's own power supply is universal and correct for UAE mains. The Caseta in-wall dimmers are 120V US parts, so here this hub realistically drives plug-in dimmers, Pico remotes and shades, not a full in-wall retrofit.
Model Caseta Smart Hub (Smart Bridge) L-BDG2-WH
| Communication protocol | Lutron Clear Connect RF, 431 to 437MHz (proprietary, not Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave or Bluetooth) |
| Gateway or processor needed | This unit is the gateway itself. It must be wired to a home router by Ethernet (3 ft CAT5 cable included) for the Lutron app, remote access and firmware or time sync |
| Device capacity | Up to 75 Caseta dimmers, switches, plug-in modules, Pico remotes and Serena shades per hub |
| Power input | Included adapter: 100 to 240V AC, 50/60Hz, 100mA input, 5V DC 550mA output. The hub itself draws 5V DC at 300mA, about 1.3W typical |
| Power connector | Micro-USB power jack on the hub (power only, no data). The adapter ships with a US two-pin plug |
| Mounting format | Freestanding tabletop puck, 69.9 x 69.9 x 30.2mm. No wallbox and no in-wall wiring, it sits on a shelf near the router |
| Installation route | DIY. Plug into a power outlet and an Ethernet port, then pair in the Lutron app. No electrician required for the hub itself |
| Certifications and environment | cULus listed, FCC Class B, IC and COFETEL certified. Indoor use only, 0 to 40C operating range |
Power is the easy part. The hub runs on 5V DC from its included adapter, and that adapter is rated 100 to 240V, 50/60Hz, so it is electrically correct on DEWA's 220 to 240V, 50Hz supply as it comes. It ships with a US two-pin plug, so all you need is a UAE Type-G plug adapter. No step-down transformer, no voltage converter. There is no wall box question, because this is a tabletop puck with a micro-USB power socket and an Ethernet port, not a wired-in device, so EU round boxes versus UK square boxes never come into it and no electrician is required for the hub. That is where the easy part ends. The Caseta in-wall dimmers this hub is built to drive are 120V US-wiring parts and must not be hard-wired into a UAE 240V circuit. Lutron reaches this market through distributor Taxan Gulf FZCO and Dubai dealers who specify and commission systems. A unit bought on amazon.ae is a parallel import, so warranty recourse is the seller's return policy rather than a local Lutron service centre.
