Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Lutron Pico PJ2-3BRL-WH-L01R is a small wireless remote for Lutron's Caseta lighting system. It is not a switch or a dimmer. It has five buttons: On, Off, Raise, Lower and a Favorite button you can set to a light level you use often. Press one and it sends a Lutron Clear Connect RF signal straight to a Caseta dimmer or plug-in dimmer, which is the part that actually does the work. Without a paired Caseta device, the Pico does nothing. One Pico can control up to 10 Caseta dimmers or switches, so a single remote can run a whole majlis or a full floor of lights. Pairing is direct and needs no hub. A Caseta Smart Hub is only required if you also want phone control, schedules or voice through Alexa, Google Home or Apple Home. It suits Dubai villa and apartment owners who already have Caseta dimmers fitted and want a second control point without cutting walls. Stick it beside the bed, at the top of the stairs or on the majlis wall. Put it in the optional wallplate bracket and it looks like a normal switch. Power is one CR2032 coin cell, included, rated for around 10 years. There is no mains connection, so nothing here touches your 220 to 240V supply. That also means you can place and pair it yourself, while the Caseta dimmer it controls stays a licensed electrician's job. The honest limit is simple: buy it only if a Caseta dimmer is already fitted or already in the plan.

  • Adds a second control point anywhere, with no wiring and no walls cut
  • One CR2032 coin cell runs it for about 10 years, so nothing to charge
  • On, Off, Raise, Lower plus a Favorite button for a saved light level
  • Works handheld, stuck to a wall, in a wallplate bracket, or on a table stand

What to check before you order

Voltage is a non-issue with this one, and we would rather say so plainly. The Pico runs on a single 3V CR2032 coin cell and has no mains connection at all, so UAE 220 to 240V supply, BS1363 Type-G plugs, and EU round versus UK square wall boxes simply do not apply to it. The unit sold in Dubai is the same unit sold anywhere in the world. You can place and pair it yourself in a few minutes, with no electrician, no permit and no DEWA paperwork. The voltage question moves one step down the chain, to the Caseta dimmer or switch the Pico talks to. That device does carry mains current and must be wired by a licensed electrician to UAE code, with the wall box checked first. The optional Pico wallplate bracket screws onto a standard gang box with no cutting and no wiring. Lutron reaches the UAE through distributor Taxan Gulf and Dubai dealers, and we supply and commission Pico remotes alongside the Caseta lighting they control.

Lutron in the UAE. The premium US lighting-control brand (Caseta). Available on Amazon.ae, some SKUs ship from outside the UAE; wiring and faceplates differ from UK/UAE standard, so we confirm fit.

Questions about the Lutron Pico Smart Remote (3-Button with Raise/Lower)

What exactly is the Lutron Pico 3-button remote?
Chevron down icon
It is a small battery-powered remote for Lutron's Caseta lighting system. Five buttons: On, Off, Raise, Lower, and a Favorite preset. It sends a radio signal to a Caseta dimmer or switch, and that device controls the light. The Pico is an accessory, not a dimmer in its own right.

Will it work on UAE 220 to 240V power?
Chevron down icon
Voltage does not apply to it. The Pico has no mains connection of any kind. It runs on one 3V CR2032 coin cell, so it behaves the same in Dubai as it does anywhere else. The 220 to 240V question belongs to the Caseta dimmer it controls, not to this remote.

Does it fit our wall boxes in Dubai?
Chevron down icon
It does not go inside a wall box, so EU round boxes and UK square boxes are not a problem. If you want it to look like a normal switch, the optional Pico wallplate bracket screws onto a standard gang box. No cutting, no chasing, no wiring behind it.

Do I need an electrician to fit it?
Chevron down icon
Not for the remote. You can unbox it, pair it and stick it on the wall yourself in a few minutes. An electrician is needed only for the Caseta dimmer or switch it controls, because that part is wired into live 220 to 240V mains.

What else do I have to buy for it to work?
Chevron down icon
At minimum, one Caseta in-wall dimmer, switch or plug-in dimmer. That is the device that carries the load and actually turns the light on. On its own the Pico does nothing. A Caseta Smart Hub is optional and only adds app control, schedules and voice.

Do I need the Caseta Smart Hub?
Chevron down icon
Only if you want more than button control. The Pico pairs straight to a Caseta dimmer with no hub, and that pairing keeps working during a router outage. The hub adds the Lutron app, timers, scenes and voice assistants. Plenty of customers start without it and add it later.

Which app controls it?
Chevron down icon
The Lutron app on iPhone or Android, and only once a Caseta Smart Hub is on your network. The Pico itself has no app, no Bluetooth and no pairing screen. Hub-free setup is done by holding a button on the remote and a button on the dimmer.

Does it work with Alexa, Google Home or Apple Home?
Chevron down icon
The Caseta system does, through the hub. The Pico itself never speaks to a voice assistant. Press a Pico button and the dimmer changes, then the hub reports the new level back to Alexa, Google Home or Apple Home so your app stays correct.

Can I retrofit this into an existing villa?
Chevron down icon
Yes, and that is its best use. The dimmer replaces an existing switch, and the Pico goes wherever you want a second control point. No new cabling, no channels cut into plaster. It suits a lived-in villa far better than most two-way switching fixes.

Is it only for new fit-outs?
Chevron down icon
No. New builds do use it, usually to save wiring runs for two-way and three-way switching. In finished homes it is often the quicker option, because adding a Pico beside the bed costs nothing in civil work compared with pulling a new switch drop through a finished wall.

How many lights can one Pico control?
Chevron down icon
Up to 10 Caseta dimmers or switches from a single remote. That is enough to run the lighting in a majlis or a bedroom wing from one button press. You can also pair several Picos to the same dimmer, for example one at each door.

What does the Favorite button do?
Chevron down icon
It stores one light level you choose. Set it to 30 percent for evening in the majlis, or full brightness for the kitchen, then reach that level in one press. With several dimmers paired, the single button sets them all to their saved levels together.

How long does the battery last, and can I change it?
Chevron down icon
Lutron rates the CR2032 cell at around 10 years in normal use, and one is included. You replace it yourself, with nothing more than a coin or small screwdriver to open the back. CR2032 cells are sold in every supermarket and pharmacy here.

Will Dubai heat affect the battery?
Chevron down icon
Indoors, no. Coin cells dislike sustained high temperature, so the case to avoid is leaving the remote on a sunny windowsill or in a parked car in August. Kept in normal air-conditioned rooms, which is where it is designed to live, it holds up fine.

What is the wireless range?
Chevron down icon
About 9 m through walls and 18 m line of sight. In an apartment that covers most rooms. In a large villa, plan for the Pico to sit reasonably close to the dimmer it controls, ideally on the same floor, rather than two levels away.

Does it need Wi-Fi?
Chevron down icon
No. The Pico uses Lutron Clear Connect RF at 431 to 437 MHz, a private radio band not shared with Wi-Fi. It keeps working during a router outage or an internet cut. Wi-Fi only matters if you add the hub for app and voice control.

Will it control my existing lights or non-Lutron bulbs?
Chevron down icon
Only through a Caseta dimmer or switch. It cannot talk to Philips Hue bulbs, Aqara switches, Tuya devices or a normal wall switch. If your lighting is not Caseta, this remote is the wrong purchase, and we will tell you that before we quote anything.

Can renters use it?
Chevron down icon
The remote, yes, easily. It sticks on with adhesive and leaves nothing behind when you move. The catch is the Caseta dimmer, which replaces a fixed wall switch and needs landlord permission in most Dubai tenancies. A Caseta plug-in dimmer for lamps avoids that problem entirely.

How does it compare with a Philips Hue Tap Dial or an Aqara remote?
Chevron down icon
Hue Tap Dial and Aqara remotes cost less and suit bulb-based or Zigbee setups, and both need their own hub. The Pico only makes sense inside a Caseta install, where it is the more reliable control with a better button feel. Match the remote to the system you own.

Is it worth buying if I already have smart bulbs?
Chevron down icon
Usually not. Smart bulbs handle their own dimming, so a Caseta dimmer sitting in front of them can cause trouble. The Pico belongs with ordinary dimmable LED fittings run by a Caseta dimmer. That pairing gives smoother, quieter dimming than most bulb-based systems manage.

What is the difference between this and the 2-button Pico?
Chevron down icon
This one adds Raise and Lower, so you can hold a button to set any level, plus the Favorite preset. The 2-button version is On and Off only. If the light is dimmable, the extra buttons are worth having and the price gap is small.

How do you quote it, and what is the lead time?
Chevron down icon
We quote the remote together with the Caseta dimmer it will control, because one without the other is not useful. Common parts are usually available within days through Lutron's UAE channel. Less common brackets and pedestals are ordered in, so allow a little longer for those.

What about warranty and support in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Lutron's standard limited product warranty applies, with terms published at lutron.com/warranty. Amazon.ae also offers a third-party extended cover add-on at checkout, which is separate from Lutron's own coverage. Buy through us and we handle the claim and the replacement instead of you chasing a seller.

Does it still work during a power cut?
Chevron down icon
The remote keeps working, but the light will not, because the Caseta dimmer needs mains power. When DEWA supply returns, the dimmer comes back and the Pico controls it again with no re-pairing. Nothing is lost from memory during an outage.

Contact us
Can I use it outside or in a bathroom?
Chevron down icon
Keep it to dry indoor rooms. The Pico has no water or dust rating, and a humid bathroom or an open terrace in summer is not the place for it. For a garden or pool light, control the Caseta dimmer from a Pico mounted just inside the door.

Who should not buy this?
Chevron down icon
Anyone without a Caseta dimmer, or a firm plan to fit one, because the remote will be a dead piece of plastic. Also skip it if your home runs on Hue, Aqara or Tuya, or if you want one wall panel that controls several brands at once.
