What exactly is the Lutron Pico 2-button remote?

It is a small wireless remote from Lutron's Caseta range, with two buttons marked for on and off. It controls a Caseta dimmer or switch over Lutron's own radio signal. It is not a switch itself and carries no mains power, so it cannot run a light on its own.

Will it work on UAE 220 to 240V power?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and voltage is not relevant to it. The Pico is battery only, running on one 3V CR2032 coin cell, with no connection to your mains at all. It never sees the 220 to 240V DEWA supply, so the US 120V problem that affects some Lutron wall switches does not apply here.

So there is no voltage risk at all?

Not with the remote itself. The risk sits with the Caseta dimmer or switch it pairs to, which is a mains device. That part must be a model rated for 220 to 240V and wired by a qualified electrician. Ask us to confirm the right Caseta model before you order anything.

Question 4

Does it fit our wall boxes in Dubai?

It does not need a wall box. The Pico sticks to any flat surface with the adhesive pad in the box, so EU round boxes and UK style square boxes are beside the point. If you want it flush like a switch, the PICO-WBX-ADAPT wallplate adapter fits a standard 1-gang opening.

Do I need an electrician to fit it?

No. There is no wiring, no back box and no mains involved, so you can put it up yourself in minutes. An electrician is only needed for the Caseta dimmer or switch it controls, because that part is wired into the wall and sits on live mains.

Do I need a certified Lutron dealer?

Accepted Answer

Only for bigger jobs. Pairing one Pico to an existing Caseta device is a homeowner task. A certified dealer matters when the Pico is part of a whole-home Lutron design that has to be programmed and commissioned, which is how premium lighting control is normally delivered in a villa.

What else must I buy to make it useful?

At minimum a Lutron Caseta dimmer or switch, because the Pico has nothing to control without one. That is a separate mains product and it is not included. Nothing else is required for plain on and off control: no hub, no app, no internet connection.

Do I need the Lutron Smart Bridge hub?

Accepted Answer

Not for basic control. The Pico pairs straight to the Caseta device with no hub at all. The Smart Bridge, sold separately, is only needed if you also want the Lutron app, schedules, access from outside the home, or voice control across the wider Caseta system.

Which app controls it?

Accepted Answer

The Lutron app, and only if you own a Smart Bridge. Without the bridge there is no app, and the Pico still works fine. With the bridge, the app lets you name devices, build schedules, and set what each Pico button does across your Caseta lights.

Does it work with Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple Home?

Indirectly. The Pico is a physical remote, not a voice device. Add a Lutron Smart Bridge and your Caseta lights answer to Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Home. The Pico then gives you the manual way to control those same lights when nobody feels like talking.

Does it use Wi-Fi, Zigbee or Bluetooth?

None of them. It uses Lutron Clear Connect, a private radio system running around 431 to 437 MHz. That band sits away from the crowded 2.4GHz traffic in a Dubai apartment block, which is a big reason Lutron controls feel instant. It also means it only talks to Lutron gear.

How many lights can one Pico control?

One Pico pairs directly to as many as 10 Caseta dimmers or switches, and they can sit in different rooms. Press once and all of them respond together. That makes it useful as a single off button by the front door or on a bedside table.

Can I dim the lights with this model?

Accepted Answer

No. The L01 two-button version does on and off only. There is no raise and lower and no scene button. If you want dimming from the remote, pick the Pico with extra buttons instead. The Caseta dimmer on the wall still dims by hand either way.

Can I add it to a villa that is already finished?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this is one of the easiest retrofits there is. Nothing is chased into the wall and no ceiling is opened. The real work is fitting the Caseta dimmer at the existing switch position, then mounting the Pico wherever you want the second control point.

What is the range in a big villa?

About 9 m (30 ft) through walls and 18 m (60 ft) with a clear line of sight to the paired device. That covers a normal room or a majlis easily. Across a large villa with thick blockwork, plan for the Pico and its Caseta device to stay reasonably close.

What battery does it take and how long does it last?

Accepted Answer

One 3V CR2032 lithium coin cell, supplied in the box. Lutron rates it for about ten years of typical use. CR2032 cells are sold in every supermarket and pharmacy here, so a replacement costs a few dirhams and takes about a minute to swap.

Will Dubai heat affect it?

Accepted Answer

It is rated for indoor use from 0 to 60°C, so an air-conditioned room is well within range. Do not mount it outdoors, on a balcony wall in direct sun, or in a steamy bathroom. Sustained summer heat shortens coin-cell life and can loosen the adhesive pad.

Will the sticky pad hold on my wall?

On clean, smooth paint, glass or a headboard, yes. On textured paint, wallpaper or dusty gypsum it can lift, especially in a hot room. Wipe the surface with alcohol first and press firmly. If you would rather not stick anything, use the wallplate adapter or the tabletop pedestal.

How does it compare to a cheaper Aqara wireless switch?

The Aqara mini switch costs a fraction of this and works with an Aqara hub, so it suits budget setups. The Pico has the better feel and a more reliable signal, but only inside a Lutron system. Pick Aqara if your home runs on Aqara, pick the Pico if you already have Caseta.

What about a Philips Hue dimmer switch instead?

The Hue switch is cheaper and controls Hue bulbs, so it suits homes built on smart bulbs. The Pico controls the wired dimmer rather than the bulb, which keeps every bulb on the circuit working and avoids the old problem of someone cutting power at the wall switch.

Can it control my non-Lutron lights?

No. Clear Connect is a closed system, so the Pico will not talk to Aqara, Sonoff, Hue, Tuya or any Wi-Fi bulb. It only pairs with Lutron Caseta devices. If your home runs on another brand, we will point you to that brand's own remote instead.

Does it still work if the internet goes down?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The remote talks straight to the Caseta device by radio, with no router and no cloud in the path. An Etisalat or du outage, or a Wi-Fi failure, changes nothing. Only the app, schedules and voice control pause, because those parts run through the Smart Bridge.

For a stocked marketplace unit, a few days to most Dubai and Sharjah addresses. Imported stock can take one to two weeks if the seller ships from abroad. If the Pico forms part of a larger Lutron design, its lead time follows the main order and we confirm dates in writing.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?

Lutron gives a 1-year limited warranty on the Pico. Because this SKU reaches the UAE through a marketplace seller rather than a local Lutron desk, a claim runs through that seller and Lutron's international support. Where we supply it as part of an install, we handle the process for you.

Is there a subscription or app fee?

None. Lutron charges nothing monthly for the Pico, the Caseta app or voice control. You pay for hardware and for installation of the mains device, and that is the end of it. There is no cloud plan keeping the remote alive, because it does not use the cloud.

Who should not buy this?

Anyone with no Caseta hardware, because on its own the remote does nothing. Skip it too if you want dimming from the remote (take the multi-button Pico), if you need one controller for a mixed-brand home, or if you want a wall control that also switches the circuit by hand.
