Overview

What it is and where it fits

The panel to buy when the job is refilling a power station rather than topping up a phone. 400W rated output from monocrystalline cells at up to 23 percent conversion efficiency, which is four times what a 100W travel panel delivers and changes what is realistic: a mid-sized station goes from a daylight trickle to a genuine recharge between morning and afternoon. The kickstand is the part that earns its keep. Four fixed angles at 30, 40, 50 and 80 degrees let you match the panel to the sun's height rather than laying it flat and losing a third of the output, and the 80 degree setting is the one that matters in winter when the sun sits low. An MC4 connector rather than XT-60 is the right choice for a panel this size, because MC4 is the standard on fixed solar hardware and holds its conductivity better on long runs. ETFE coating handles dust and scratches, and the IP67 rating covers full immersion rather than just splashes. This is a large object when open, at roughly 2.5 metres across, so it wants a car boot rather than a backpack. It weighs 15.9kg, which is a two-hand carry.

  • Four times the output of a typical 100W travel panel
  • Four kickstand angles, so the panel tracks the sun by season
  • MC4 connector, the standard used on fixed solar hardware
  • IP67 sealing and an ETFE surface against dust and scratches

What to check before you order

This is the panel that suits UAE conditions best of the portable range, because 400W leaves headroom for the losses this climate imposes. Heat is the first of those: cell output falls as temperature rises, and a panel lying flat on hot ground in July gives up a noticeable share of its rating. The kickstand solves this twice over, by improving the angle to the sun and by letting air move behind the panel. Dust is the second tax, and it is a daily one here rather than an occasional one, so a wipe each morning recovers output most owners never realise they lost. Wind is what actually breaks folding panels in this country, so weigh or peg the base whenever there is a breeze, particularly at the 80 degree setting where the panel is close to vertical and acts as a sail. None of this is a rooftop installation: a permanent array in Dubai is a DEWA-connected job under the Shams Dubai programme, with an enrolled contractor and an approval process. This folds into a car and needs nobody's permission.

Questions about the Anker SOLIX PS400 Solar Panel

Will it charge any power station, or only Anker ones?
Chevron down icon
Any station whose solar input accepts the panel's voltage and current, which covers most mid-sized units, though you may need an MC4-to-XT60 adapter for non-Anker brands. Check the station's maximum solar input first. Feeding 400W into an input rated for 200W does not damage a good station, but it wastes half the panel, so match the pair before buying.

How long does it take to refill a station?
Chevron down icon
Divide the station's capacity by realistic output rather than the rated 400W. In UAE summer conditions, with heat losses and an imperfect angle, plan on 250 to 300W through the middle of the day. A 1000Wh station therefore takes roughly four hours of good sun, not two and a half.

Is it worth it over two smaller panels?
Chevron down icon
Usually yes, for one reason: a single unit means one connector, one kickstand and one thing to carry. Two 200W panels give the same watts with twice the setup and a splitter cable. Smaller panels win only if you need to split the array around shade, which is rarely a problem in open desert.
