What it is and where it fits

The sharpest indoor camera in this file and the one to take if you already own SwitchBot curtain motors, locks or hubs, because it lives in the same app and can trigger them. Resolution is 3K, which is a real step up from the 1080p and 3MP cameras here: you can crop into a face across a large living room and still have something usable. Motorised pan and tilt covers the room from one position, and motion tracking follows a moving subject rather than watching them walk out of frame. Recording is local to a microSD card with no monthly fee. Two-way audio and a privacy mode that turns the lens away are both included. Being a SwitchBot device, it is also useful as an automation trigger rather than only a recorder: detection in the hallway can switch on a lamp, which does more to deter an entry than a notification you read an hour later. It is an indoor camera with no weather rating and belongs in a room. Judge it against the C6N and the C210 on resolution and on which app you would rather live in.

What to check before you order

Choose this when the property already runs SwitchBot hardware, because a camera that can act on what it sees is worth more than one that only tells you about it. A detection in the entrance hall switching a lamp on is a better response than a phone alert. As an indoor device it needs a conditioned room: a Dubai apartment left closed up with the AC off for a summer month is not somewhere to leave any indoor camera running, and that applies to holiday homes and units between tenants. Position it so the pan range stays inside your own property. In apartments the frame frequently takes in the front door, and a camera that swings to cover a doorway also sees the shared corridor and the neighbours in it whenever the door opens. Set the pan limits and the detection zones deliberately rather than leaving them at default.

Is 3K worth it over a 1080p indoor camera?

In a large room, yes. Detail at distance is exactly where cheap sensors run out, and a villa living room or an open-plan majlis is a large space. In a small bedroom or a store room you will never see the benefit and the EZVIZ C6N at a third of the price does the same job.

What does motion tracking actually do?

The camera motor follows a moving subject across the room instead of letting them leave the frame. It is useful in a large space and less so in a small one. It can also chase a curtain moving under an AC vent, so set detection zones once at install rather than leaving it hunting all afternoon.

Do I need a SwitchBot hub for it?

The camera connects over Wi-Fi on its own. A hub matters if you want it working alongside SwitchBot's Bluetooth devices in automations. If you own no other SwitchBot kit, the automation advantage is the main reason to pay the difference over a Tapo or an EZVIZ, and without it the cheaper cameras are better value.
