No, and you should not treat it as though it does. Will it call the fire service or the building alarm?

No. It sounds locally and notifies your phone through the Aqara hub. It has no connection to the building fire panel and no monitoring service behind it. If it alerts, the response is yours to make and you should still raise the building alarm the normal way.

Where should it be mounted?

On the ceiling, well away from the kitchen doorway and not directly under or beside an AC supply grille. Steam from cooking and a strong airflow across the detection chamber are the two things that produce false alarms in UAE homes. In a villa, a unit on each floor and one outside the bedroom corridor is a sensible starting layout.

What happens if my internet is down?

The local sounder still works, because detection and the alarm are on the device itself. What you lose is the notification to your phone, since that path runs through the hub and your connection. This is worth knowing rather than assuming the alert always arrives.
