Overview

What it is and where it fits

A budget Zigbee contact sensor that reports open and closed, and the honest catch belongs in the first line: it will not work on its own. This is a Zigbee 3.0 end-device, so it needs a MOES or Tuya Zigbee gateway in the property before your phone sees anything. Two pieces stick to the door and the frame with the tape in the box, a 40mm sensor body and a small magnet. Move them more than about 20mm apart and the sensor sends an open event to the gateway, which passes it to the MOES, Smart Life or Tuya app and on to Alexa or Google. Power is one CR2032 coin cell, included, and the app warns you when it is low. There is no wiring, no back box and no tools, so a tenant can fit it and take it away at the end of the lease. It suits Dubai buyers who already run Tuya kit and want cheap coverage on several doors: a villa store room, a maid's room, a shaded garden gate, or the balcony door that gets left open with the AC running. Treat MOES as the value brand it is. Aqara and Sonoff have better build quality, longer firmware support and more UAE service history, and MOES wins mainly on price and on how neatly it slots into a Tuya system you already own. If you have no gateway, budget for one too, because the sensor is useless without it.

  • Tells you the moment a door, window or gate is opened
  • Sticks on in a minute with tape, no wiring and no tools
  • Triggers Tuya scenes for lights, AC, a siren or a phone alert
  • Cheap enough to fit on every door in a villa

What to check before you order

Fitment does not apply to this one. It is a battery sensor in two adhesive-mounted pieces, so there is no back box, no BS1363 Type-G plate and no mains wiring to match. The no-neutral question that decides most Dubai wall switch jobs is irrelevant here too, because the unit runs off a single CR2032 cell. Nobody has to touch a live circuit and you can fit it yourself. What does matter locally is heat and dust. Adhesive pads let go on a hot aluminium balcony frame in July, so we wipe the surface with alcohol first and, on frames in direct sun, screw or cable-tie the body rather than trust the tape. Villa gates only work if the sensor sits in shade and out of the rain, since the housing is not weather-rated. On sliding balcony doors the frame return is usually too narrow for the magnet, so it goes flat on the face of the moving leaf. Coin cells also drain faster in a hot store room, so check them yearly.

MOES in the UAE. A value brand in the Tuya and Zigbee ecosystem, sold in the UAE mainly through its own Amazon.ae store with genuine local stock and review history. Best known among smart-home enthusiasts for retrofit modules, no-neutral switches and scene controllers rather than as a household name. Most devices run on the Smart Life or Tuya app, and the Zigbee ones need a MOES or Tuya gateway. Note that MOES rarely states the wall-box pattern on its switch listings, so we confirm back-box fit before fitting one.

Questions about the MOES Zigbee Door and Window Sensor

What exactly is the MOES door and window sensor?
Chevron down icon
Two small plastic pieces with tape on the back. One holds the electronics and a CR2032 battery, the other is only a magnet. Stick one to the door and one to the frame. When they separate by roughly 20mm the sensor tells your Zigbee gateway the door is open, and the app tells you.

Do I need a hub or gateway to use it?
Chevron down icon
Yes, always. This is a Zigbee 3.0 end-device, not a WiFi sensor, so it cannot reach your router or your phone by itself. You need a MOES or Tuya Zigbee gateway in the property. Amazon's own listing and the MOES spec sheet both state the gateway requirement plainly.

Which gateway should I buy with it?
Chevron down icon
Any Tuya-compatible Zigbee gateway works. The simplest pairing is a MOES Zigbee hub, which puts the sensor straight into the MOES or Smart Life app. If you run Home Assistant, a Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA coordinator will also adopt it and keep the whole thing off the cloud.

Can I connect it straight to my WiFi?
Chevron down icon
No. There is no WiFi radio inside it. Zigbee is a separate low-power radio, which is why the battery lasts so long and why a gateway has to sit between the sensor and your network. If you want a sensor with no hub at all, look at a Thread or WiFi model instead.

Which app does it use?
Chevron down icon
The MOES app, Smart Life or the Tuya app. All three run on the same Tuya platform, so pick one and stay with it. Whichever you choose shows open and closed state, a log of recent events and a low battery warning, and it is where you build your automations.

Does it work with Alexa and Google Home?
Chevron down icon
Yes, through the gateway. You link your Tuya or Smart Life account to Alexa or Google once, and the sensor then appears as a contact sensor you can use in routines. It cannot speak to either service directly, so if the gateway is off, that link is dead too.

Does it work with Apple Home?
Chevron down icon
Not natively. Tuya Zigbee sensors do not show up in Apple Home without a bridge, so an Apple household is better served by the Aqara P2, which joins Apple Home over Thread and Matter. You can bridge MOES into Apple Home through Home Assistant if you are happy running it.

Will it fit my wall box or my UK sockets?
Chevron down icon
That question does not apply to this product. There is no plug, no faceplate and no back box, and nothing goes into the wall. The sensor sticks to the door leaf and the magnet to the frame using the double-sided tape supplied, so the usual Type-G and back box checks are irrelevant.

Does it need a neutral wire?
Chevron down icon
No. Neutral wiring only matters for smart wall switches that need to draw power from the lighting circuit. This sensor runs on one CR2032 coin cell, so an older Dubai apartment with no neutral at the switch box makes no difference to it at all.

Can I fit it myself or do I need an electrician?
Chevron down icon
Fit it yourself. Peel, stick, line up the two halves and pair it in the app. There is nothing live to touch. Our electricians only get involved if you want the sensor tied into something bigger, such as switching an AC or a lighting circuit when the door opens.

Will it work in an older Dubai apartment?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Building age affects wiring, and this device has none. The only real constraint is Zigbee range through thick blockwork, so keep the gateway fairly central, or add a mains-powered Zigbee plug or bulb in between to extend the mesh towards the far rooms.

How does it compare with the Aqara P2 you also sell?
Chevron down icon
The P2 costs more and runs Thread, so it lands in Apple Home with no Aqara hub if you already own a HomePod or Apple TV. The MOES is cheaper and needs a Tuya gateway. Pick MOES when you are filling out a Tuya system or covering many doors on a budget.

What about Sonoff or Tapo sensors instead?
Chevron down icon
Sonoff sits in the same value bracket and pairs with its own Zigbee bridge. Tapo uses WiFi or its own hub. All three do the same job to a similar standard. Choose by the hub you already own, because the gateway decides which app you end up living in.

What happens if my internet goes down?
Chevron down icon
Local automations stored on the gateway usually keep running, so a door opening can still switch a Zigbee light. Push alerts to your phone stop, because those travel through Tuya's cloud. Fully local behaviour needs Home Assistant with Zigbee2MQTT rather than a stock Tuya gateway.

What happens if the gateway loses power?
Chevron down icon
The sensor effectively goes deaf. It keeps sensing, but nothing is listening, so you get no alerts and no automations. Put the gateway on the same UPS as your router if those alerts matter to you. This is the main trade-off against a standalone WiFi sensor.

How long does the battery last and can I change it?
Chevron down icon
One CR2032 cell is included and you can replace it yourself with a coin from any supermarket here. Expect roughly a year to eighteen months on a normal door, less on a door used dozens of times a day or in a hot store room. The app warns you first.

How far can it sit from the gateway?
Chevron down icon
Plan on 8 to 10 metres indoors through a couple of walls. Dubai blockwork and concrete cut Zigbee range badly. Any mains-powered Zigbee device, such as a plug, bulb or relay, acts as a repeater, so one plug in the hallway usually fixes a weak corner.

Can I use it on a villa gate or outdoors?
Chevron down icon
Only in shade and out of the rain. The housing is not weather-rated, and both the adhesive and the coin cell suffer in direct sun. On a gate we mount it on the sheltered inner face, screw or tie the body rather than trust the pad, and check the battery more often.

Can it turn the AC or the lights off when a door is left open?
Chevron down icon
Yes, provided the AC or lights are smart as well. In the Tuya app you set a scene: balcony door open for two minutes, AC off. That needs an IR controller or a smart thermostat on the AC side. On its own the sensor can only send you a notification.

Is this a security alarm system?
Chevron down icon
No. It is a contact sensor plus a phone alert. It can trigger a Tuya siren, which is genuinely useful, but it is not a monitored alarm and it is not a SIRA-approved security installation. If you need approved security for a villa or a business, ask us about a proper system.

Will it stick to aluminium sliding windows?
Chevron down icon
Usually yes, once the frame is wiped with alcohol. Dust films build up fast here and are the main reason pads fail. On narrow sliding frames the magnet will not sit in the return, so it goes flat on the face of the moving leaf with the sensor body beside it.

Does it keep a record of who opened the door?
Chevron down icon
It logs open and closed events with timestamps in the app, with about a week of history on the MOES spec sheet. It cannot tell you who opened the door. Pair it with a camera or a smart lock if you need to know the person and not just the event.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
It arrives through marketplace sellers rather than an official MOES distributor here, so warranty is whatever that seller offers, usually a short return window. The Amazon.ae listing is sold by a third-party reseller and ships in five to six days. Buy through us and we handle any replacement for you.

How much is it and how do I buy it from you?
Chevron down icon
The lowest genuine UAE listing we found is around AED 157 on Amazon.ae. The equivalent MOES listing on noon is AED 198. Send us an enquiry saying how many doors you want covered and whether you own a gateway, and we will quote the sensors, the hub and the fitting together.

Is the 4.3 star rating trustworthy?
Chevron down icon
Treat it as directional only. Those 84 ratings are global, not from UAE buyers, and the noon listing has no ratings at all. There is very little local review history for this exact model, which is one reason we rate it as a value pick rather than a first choice.

Can I use it with Home Assistant?
Chevron down icon
Yes, and it is a good match. Paired to a Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA coordinator it reports contact state and battery level locally, with no Tuya account involved. That also removes the internet dependency, so your automations carry on working when the connection drops.

Who should not buy this one?
Chevron down icon
Anyone with no Zigbee gateway and no intention of buying one. Anyone in an Apple Home household. Anyone who needs a weather-sealed sensor for an exposed gate. Buy Aqara if you want the longer support record, or a WiFi sensor if you want one device and nothing else to add.
