Overview

What it is and where it fits

The MOES ZigBee Smart Home Gateway is the small bridge that makes MOES ZigBee gear usable from your phone. It sits on a shelf, a TV unit or next to your router, and runs off a Micro-USB cable at 5V, so there is no mains wiring and no electrician. It speaks ZigBee 3.0 to your switches and sensors, then passes that traffic over your 2.4GHz WiFi to the Smart Life or Tuya cloud. That gives you app control, schedules and voice control through Alexa and Google Home. This is the piece most people buy first. MOES ZigBee wall switches, scene controllers and sensors cannot reach the app on their own. They need this gateway, or an equivalent Tuya ZigBee gateway, sitting in the middle. One hub holds up to 50 sub-devices, which is enough for a two or three bedroom apartment in Dubai Marina or JVC, and usually a small villa as well. Be realistic about what you are buying. MOES is the affordable Tuya option next to Aqara, Sonoff and Tapo, and it is strongest on retrofit work and no-neutral switches. Reliability is not at Aqara level. The Amazon.ae listing averages 4.1 stars from 324 ratings, and the negative reviews cluster on two things: units going dead after a few weeks, and Google Home pairing trouble. MOES also states the hub is meant for MOES ZigBee devices, not other brands. For a budget MOES system it is the right starting block. For a mixed brand home, spend more.

What to check before you order

Fitment does not apply to this product. It is not a wall device, so there is no back box, no faceplate and no BS1363 Type-G question to answer. It stands free on a shelf or beside the router. Power comes from any USB source at 5V/1A, so a normal Type-G USB charger on Dubai's 220-240V supply is fine, and a router USB port or power bank works too. The no-neutral wiring problem in older flats around Deira, Karama and Bur Dubai does not touch this unit either, because it is not a switch. Neutral matters for the MOES wall switches you pair to it, and that is where our electricians come in. We open the back box, test live and neutral, and fit the switch properly, or use a no-neutral model where the wiring demands it. The hub itself you can set up yourself in about ten minutes. Keep it indoors, out of direct sun and away from dusty balconies, since it is rated only to 55°C.

MOES in the UAE. A value brand in the Tuya and Zigbee ecosystem, sold in the UAE mainly through its own Amazon.ae store with genuine local stock and review history. Best known among smart-home enthusiasts for retrofit modules, no-neutral switches and scene controllers rather than as a household name. Most devices run on the Smart Life or Tuya app, and the Zigbee ones need a MOES or Tuya gateway. Note that MOES rarely states the wall-box pattern on its switch listings, so we confirm back-box fit before fitting one.

Questions about the MOES ZigBee Smart Home Gateway (Wireless USB Hub)

What is the MOES ZigBee Smart Home Gateway in plain terms?
Chevron down icon
It is a small USB powered bridge. Your MOES ZigBee switches and sensors talk to it over ZigBee 3.0, and it converts that to your home WiFi so the Smart Life app, Alexa and Google Home can see them. Without a gateway, ZigBee devices have nothing to report to.

Will it fit my wall box or switch plate?
Chevron down icon
There is no fitment question with this one. It is not a wall device, so there is no back box, no faceplate and no screw pattern to match. It sits on a shelf, a TV unit or on top of the router, and you can move it any time you want.

Does it fit UAE plug sockets?
Chevron down icon
It does not plug into a socket directly. It has a Micro-USB port and comes with a cable. You plug that into any USB charger, and a standard BS1363 Type-G UAE charger on 220-240V is a confirmed fit. A router USB port or a power bank also runs it fine.

Does it need a neutral wire?
Chevron down icon
No. Neutral only matters for wall switches. This hub takes 5V over USB, so nothing about your wiring affects it. The neutral question comes back when you buy MOES wall switches to pair with it, because many older Dubai apartments have no neutral at the switch box.

Do I need a separate hub or gateway for it to work?
Chevron down icon
No, this unit is the hub. Nothing sits above it. It joins your 2.4GHz WiFi on its own and handles the ZigBee side by itself. Your MOES switches, curtain modules and sensors are the ones that need it, which is why most customers buy this part first.

Which app runs it?
Chevron down icon
Smart Life or Tuya Smart, both free on iOS and Android. They are effectively the same app with different branding, so pick one and stay with it. You add the gateway first, then add each ZigBee device through the gateway. Rooms, scenes and schedules all live inside that app.

Does it work with Alexa and Google Home?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Link your Smart Life account to Alexa or Google Home once, and every device paired through the gateway shows up for voice control. Buyers on Amazon.ae do report Google Home pairing problems (17 mentions in the reviews), so allow some patience on that first link.

Does it work with Apple Home and Siri?
Chevron down icon
No. This gateway has no Apple Home support and it is not a Matter device, so Siri control is out. If Apple Home matters in your house, look at the Aqara Hub E1 or a Matter capable gateway instead. Tell us before you order and we will point you the right way.

Does it support Matter or Thread?
Chevron down icon
No. This is the entry MOES gateway with a ZigBee radio only. No Thread, no Matter bridging, no Bluetooth. If you want Matter so the system reaches Apple Home and survives app changes in a few years, the MOES multimode gateway is the better buy for a little more money.

Will it control my Aqara, Sonoff or other Tuya devices?
Chevron down icon
MOES says no. The listing states the hub is for MOES ZigBee devices and calls it "not suitable for other brands". Some generic Tuya ZigBee devices do pair in practice, but we will not sell it to you on that promise. Buy it to run MOES gear.

How many devices can one hub handle?
Chevron down icon
Up to 50 ZigBee sub-devices, per MOES. That covers a normal two or three bedroom apartment with switches, sensors and a couple of curtain modules. Big villas usually need a second gateway, or mains powered ZigBee devices spread around to carry the mesh further.

Can I install it myself or do I need an electrician?
Chevron down icon
You can do this one yourself. Plug in the USB cable, open Smart Life, add the gateway, and you are done in about ten minutes. The electrician is needed for the wall switches you pair to it, since those involve live wiring inside the back box. Our team handles that part.

Will it work in an older Dubai apartment?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The hub only needs USB power and 2.4GHz WiFi, so the age of the building means nothing to it. The old wiring issue hits the switches instead. In many Karama, Satwa and Deira flats there is no neutral at the switch, so we pair this hub with no-neutral MOES switches.

What happens if my internet goes down?
Chevron down icon
App control, voice control and anything cloud based will stop, because MOES and Tuya route through the cloud. Some local ZigBee links between the hub and paired scene switches keep working. Your wall switches still turn the lights on by hand, which is the safety net we always design into a job.

What happens if the hub dies or gets unplugged?
Chevron down icon
Every ZigBee device paired to it drops offline in the app until it is back. Physical switches still work by touch and lights still come on. If you replace the hub you re-pair the devices to the new one, so plug it into a spot nobody disturbs or switches off.

My router is dual band. Does that cause problems?
Chevron down icon
It only joins 2.4GHz, not 5GHz. Most Etisalat and du routers broadcast both bands under one name, which usually works. If pairing stalls, split the bands or switch 5GHz off for a few minutes, and keep your phone on the 2.4GHz network while you set the hub up.

Where should I place it in my apartment or villa?
Chevron down icon
Central and out in the open. A shelf in the living room or majlis beats a metal TV cabinet or a store room. ZigBee is short range and loses signal through concrete, so a villa may need mains powered ZigBee devices as repeaters, or a second gateway upstairs.

How does it compare to the Aqara Hub E1 that you also sell?
Chevron down icon
The Aqara Hub E1 costs more and earns it. It supports Apple Home, has a steadier track record and a better app. This MOES unit is cheaper and makes sense when your switches and sensors are MOES. Choose by the devices you plan to own, not by the hub on its own.

How does it compare to the MOES multimode gateway?
Chevron down icon
The multimode version adds Bluetooth, often Matter and sometimes a wired Ethernet port, so it copes with mixed device types and a busier home. This entry hub does ZigBee and nothing else. If you are starting small with MOES ZigBee switches only, the cheap one is enough.

There is a wired version on the same listing. Which one should I get?
Chevron down icon
The wired Ethernet hub on that listing is around AED 150. Wired is steadier if your WiFi is crowded or the hub sits far from the router. The wireless USB version at about AED 80 is the one described on this page, and it suits most Dubai apartments.

Is it reliable? Be honest.
Chevron down icon
Mixed, and we would rather say so upfront. It rates 4.1 out of 5 from 324 ratings on Amazon.ae, with 63% five star and 10% one star. The complaints repeat two themes: units going dead after a few weeks, and Google Home pairing trouble. At this price, that is the trade.

What about warranty and support in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Buying through Amazon.ae gives you their returns window plus the seller warranty, which is the simplest route for a small item like this. MOES has no service centre in Dubai. If we supply and commission the system for you, we deal with the replacement claim on your behalf.

What does it cost and how do I buy it from you?
Chevron down icon
It was AED 79.50 on Amazon.ae on 13 September 2026, in stock and sold by MOES-HOUSE, so call it about AED 80. You can order it yourself. If you want the switches, sensors and scenes working as one system, ask us for a quote and we supply, install and commission it.
Contact us
Contact us
Do I leave it plugged in all the time?
Chevron down icon
Yes, always on. It is the link between your devices and the app, so unplugging it takes the whole ZigBee system offline. Power draw is tiny at 5V, roughly the same as a phone charger sitting idle. Use a socket that does not get switched off at night.

Does Dubai heat and dust affect it?
Chevron down icon
It is rated from -10°C to 55°C and 10 to 90% humidity without condensation, so keep it indoors in the air conditioned part of the home. Balconies, store rooms and shaded outdoor spots get far too hot in July and August. Wipe dust off it now and then.

Who should not buy this hub?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if you use Apple Home, if you own Aqara or Sonoff gear you want on one hub, if you need Matter, or if a hub failing in six months would bother you more than the money saved. Those buyers are better off with the Aqara Hub E1.
