Honest answer: we confirm that on site. MOES does not publish a back box pattern for this switch, not on Amazon.ae and not on its own site. The panel is a flat square plate that matches the 86mm square boxes common in Dubai, but we still measure your box first and fit an adapter plate if needed.

Does it need a neutral wire?

Accepted Answer

No, not for normal on and off. It runs from the single live wire at the switch box, and it does not need a capacitor wired across the lamp. That is the whole point of this model and the reason it works in older Dubai apartments with only one wire at the switch.

So when is a neutral wire needed?

Only for the optional 2/3-way mode, where two switches on the same light are linked so either one can control it. MOES says in its own install note that multi-control needs a neutral line wired. If you only control the light from one spot, you never need a neutral.

Do I need a hub or gateway?

Yes. This is a ZigBee 3.0 device, not a WiFi one. The listing says plainly that it only works with a Tuya ZigBee hub. Without a hub you get a touch switch and nothing else: no app, no timers, no voice control, no remote access from outside the house.

Any Tuya compatible ZigBee gateway should work, and the safe pick is the MOES ZigBee gateway from the same brand. We usually supply the multimode version because it also handles Bluetooth mesh devices. The gateway plugs into power and sits on your 2.4GHz WiFi, so keep it near the router.

Smart Life or the Tuya Smart app, both free on iOS and Android. You add the gateway first, then pair each switch to it. From there you get on and off, countdown timers, weekly schedules, scenes and sharing with family members so everyone in the flat can control the lights.

Yes, both, through the gateway. You link your Smart Life account to the Alexa or Google Home app once, and your switches show up as lights you can name and group. Voice commands go out to the Tuya cloud and back, so they need a working internet connection.

Does it work with Apple Home or HomeKit?

No. There is no HomeKit or Matter support on this switch, so it will not appear in the Apple Home app. If Apple Home is a must for you, look at the Aqara H1 no-neutral switch instead, which bridges into HomeKit properly through an Aqara hub.

Yes, that is its best use case. Older blocks around Deira, Bur Dubai, Karama and Al Nahda often have only a live wire at the switch box with no neutral. This panel is built for exactly that, so you get app control without chasing a new cable through the wall.

Total current is 10A. For LED and CFL lighting the range is 3 to 120W per gang, and for old incandescent or halogen it is 3 to 600W at 220V. That covers normal ceiling lights, downlight groups and majlis lighting in most Dubai flats and villas.

Will my LED lights flicker or glow faintly?

It can happen with very low wattage LEDs on a no-neutral switch, because a small current passes through the lamp to keep the switch alive. MOES rates this one from 3W, which helps. If a fitting flickers or glows, our electrician will test it and swap the driver or add a bypass.

Sonoff sits between the two on price and has a bigger community behind it, which matters if you later move to Home Assistant. MOES wins on cost per gang and on no-neutral wiring. If you want one brand across switches, sensors and relays, Sonoff is usually the easier family to stay inside.

What happens if my internet goes down?

The switch still works by touch, and schedules the gateway already holds usually keep running. What stops is anything that goes through the cloud: voice commands, remote control from outside the house, and app control if your phone is not on the same local network as the gateway.

What if the hub fails or gets unplugged?

Accepted Answer

If the gateway loses power or fails, each paired switch falls back to a plain manual switch and your lights still work from the wall. The switches normally rejoin on their own once the gateway is back. Replace the gateway with a different one and every switch has to be paired again.

Is pairing difficult?

It is usually a five minute job with a MOES or Tuya gateway. A real minority of reviewers do report trouble, mostly when pairing to third party hubs like Home Assistant or a Sonoff bridge. We test every switch on the customer's own gateway before we leave site.

MOES sells in the UAE mainly through marketplace sellers, so warranty is handled by the seller and is usually one year. That is the trade off at this price. Where we supply and install, we handle the claim for you and cover our own workmanship, which is the part most people worry about.

Who should not buy this switch?

Skip it if you use Apple Home, if you want a premium finish in a show villa, if you refuse to add a gateway, or if you need dimming. Anyone who wants one supported ecosystem with full local control and no cloud should look at Aqara or a wired KNX system instead.

Can I use it for the AC or the water heater?

No. Use it for lighting circuits. A fan coil AC unit, a water heater or a motor load is not what this panel is rated for, and the no-neutral design is built around lamps. For a water heater we fit a properly rated relay or smart breaker instead.

Does it dim the lights?

No, this model is on and off only. MOES does sell a separate dimmer panel, but a no-neutral dimmer behaves differently with LED drivers and needs testing on your actual fittings. If dimming matters, tell us the lamp model first and we will check compatibility before you buy anything.

Can I run it on Home Assistant?

It can work through Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA with a supported coordinator, and plenty of people run it that way. This is also where most of the negative reviews come from, so we do not promise it. On a MOES or Tuya gateway with the Smart Life app, behaviour is predictable.

Yes. Each mains powered switch acts as a repeater once it is paired, so the more you fit, the stronger the mesh gets. In a villa that helps battery sensors at the far end of the house stay connected without you adding a second gateway.

Can it work in a bathroom?

We do not recommend a capacitive touch panel inside a bathroom or anywhere it gets splashed. Wet fingers can trigger it or stop it responding, and UAE bathrooms get humid. Put the panel outside the door on the dry wall, which is how most Dubai bathroom lights are switched anyway.

How many gangs should I choose?

You pick 1, 2 or 3 gang, and each gang controls its own lighting group independently from the app. A three gang panel is the usual choice for a majlis or living room with separate downlights, cove lights and a chandelier sitting on one plate.
