Overview

What it is and where it fits

The W400 is a wired wall thermostat, so it replaces an existing wall control rather than sitting in front of a handheld remote. That is the first thing to settle: if your AC is a wall-mounted split operated by a handheld infrared remote, an infrared controller is the cheaper and faster route and no wiring is involved. The W400 is for rooms that already have a thermostat on the wall. Its argument over the American thermostats sold here is the system behind it. Aqara devices pair to an Aqara hub, so the thermostat sits in the same app and the same automations as the lighting, the curtain motors and the sensors, and an occupancy sensor in a bedroom can act on the AC directly rather than through a bridge between two platforms. It reaches Apple Home, Alexa and Google through that hub like the rest of the range. What it can drive depends entirely on the wiring behind your existing wall control, and UAE properties vary between chilled water fan-coil units, ducted systems and developer-fitted panels. We photograph the existing thermostat and the indoor unit label and confirm compatibility before ordering rather than assuming it.

  • Climate control in the same app and automations as the rest of the Aqara system
  • An Aqara occupancy sensor can act on the AC without a bridge between platforms
  • Replaces a tired developer-fitted wall thermostat with a touchscreen
  • Wrong product for a split AC that runs on a handheld remote

What to check before you order

The decision in a Dubai home is what is on the wall now. Apartments on district cooling with a chilled water fan-coil unit have a wall thermostat already, and those are the positions a wired thermostat is meant for. Villas running wall-mounted splits with handheld remotes usually do not, and in those rooms an infrared controller does the job for less with no wiring. Compatibility with the specific system behind the wall is settled by inspection, not by a product page: we photograph the existing thermostat wiring and the indoor unit label and confirm before anything is ordered, because a mismatch leaves a whole zone without control. Count zones rather than rooms when planning, since several bedrooms fed from one fan-coil unit are a single zone. The value here is the system: if the property already runs Aqara lighting and curtains on a hub, keeping climate on the same platform removes an app and makes cross-device automation straightforward.

Aqara in the UAE. Sold through several authorised UAE resellers rather than one exclusive distributor. Wide local stock and the broadest single-hub ecosystem available in UAE retail.

Questions about the Aqara W400 Thermostat

Will it control my split AC?
Chevron down icon
Only where that AC is operated from a wall thermostat. This is a wired unit that replaces an existing wall control. A split running on a handheld infrared remote is better served by a Sensibo or tado° controller, which fits in minutes and needs no electrical work.

Do I need an Aqara hub?
Chevron down icon
Yes. It is a Zigbee device, so the hub is what connects it to your phone, Apple Home, Alexa or Google. The hub is one purchase for the property and it carries the rest of your Aqara sensors, switches and curtain motors as well.

Why choose this over an ecobee or a Nest?
Chevron down icon
Because of what it sits next to. On an Aqara system the thermostat joins the same automations as the lighting, curtains and occupancy sensors without bridging between platforms. If your house has no Aqara hardware, that advantage disappears and the choice comes down to the wiring and the app you prefer.

How do you confirm it will work in my property?
Chevron down icon
We look at the wiring behind the existing wall thermostat and at the label on the indoor unit, on site or from photographs. Systems here vary between chilled water fan coils, ducted units and developer-fitted panels, and that inspection is what settles compatibility before anything is ordered.
