The ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential is ecobee's cheapest Wi-Fi thermostat, launched in 2025 for North American 24V heating and cooling systems. In Dubai it suits only the few villas with a conventional 24V ducted system. It does not control chilled-water fan coils, most ducted splits, VRF or wall splits. It replaces a standard wall thermostat and switches the equipment through low-voltage wires: up to two cooling stages, a single fan speed and, where fitted, heating or a heat pump. It needs a C wire for power, or ecobee's Power Extender Kit, sold separately. The 2.8-inch colour touchscreen shows temperature and humidity, and the free ecobee app handles schedules, away settings and energy reports. It works with Apple Home, Alexa and Google Assistant. There is no built-in occupancy sensor, so add ecobee SmartSensors if you want it to follow the rooms you actually use. If the Wi-Fi drops, it keeps controlling the temperature from its own screen, but app and voice control stop. It is a US product with an English-only interface. ecobee does not sell officially in the UAE, so warranty claims go through the local seller. Most Dubai homes do not have 24V HVAC wiring. Tower fan coils run on 230V, and ducted splits from Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric or LG use their own communicating controllers. If that is your system, do not buy this thermostat. We check the wires behind your current thermostat before we sell or fit one.

Be clear on this before buying. The Essential is a US-style 24V thermostat. Most Dubai towers use 230V chilled-water fan coils, often on Empower, Emicool or Tabreed district cooling, and it cannot control them. Most villas have ducted splits or VRF with brand-specific communicating controllers, which it also cannot run, and wall splits need an IR controller instead. It fits only conventional 24V ducted units or heat pumps with R, C, G, Y or W terminals and a C wire, or a Power Extender Kit where the C wire is missing. It screws to the wall over the cable, and a trim kit, sold separately, covers marks left by a larger old thermostat. The interface is English only. The Wireless Circle lists a 1-year warranty, since ecobee does not sell officially in the UAE. ecobee rates storage only up to 45°C, so never leave a boxed unit in a hot car. Mount it on a shaded inner wall away from supply vents. We always check the wires first.
