Overview

What it is and where it fits

The flagship Nest, and the right one for a large Dubai villa running multiple fan-coil zones on Google Home. It carries the same hard requirement as every wall thermostat sold here: a wired conversion adapter at the indoor unit, Dropair Mini6 or Mini6s for most brands, Fujitsu UTY-TTRX for O'General. What separates it from the standard Nest is control across a bigger house. It ships with a remote sensor, handles motion sensing to tell whether a room is genuinely in use, and manages multi-zone setups more capably, which matters when the first floor bedrooms and the ground floor majlis behave nothing alike in August. Auto-away drops zones the household has left rather than the whole property. The display is the better of the two and reads clearly across a room. Costs add up quickly at this level, because a four zone villa means four thermostats and four adapters, so we price the property rather than the device.

  • Built for villas with several independently controlled zones
  • Ships with a remote sensor for a second room
  • Drops zones the household has actually left
  • Requires a wired conversion adapter on UAE split and fan-coil systems

What to check before you order

This is the specification for a larger Dubai villa where each floor has its own fan-coil unit and the temperature difference between the upstairs bedrooms and the ground floor majlis is a daily complaint. Every zone needs its own thermostat and its own conversion adapter, so a four zone villa carries four adapters at AED 600 to 800 each on top of the thermostats, plus wiring labour at each indoor unit. Dropair Mini6 and Mini6s cover Samsung, LG, Gree, Midea, Daikin and Carrier. O'General villas need the Fujitsu UTY-TTRX at every zone. Nest does not appear in Apple Home, so households on iPhone should look at ecobee instead. We survey the property and identify each indoor unit before quoting, because a single mismatched adapter stops a whole zone working.

Questions about the Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen)

Is the Learning Thermostat worth the extra over the standard Nest?

In a large villa with several zones, yes: the remote sensor, motion sensing and multi-zone handling are the reasons to buy it. In a one bedroom apartment on a single fan coil, the standard Nest does the same job for less.

How much does a full villa installation come to?
Chevron down icon
Count the zones. Each zone needs a thermostat from AED 1,000, an adapter at AED 600 to 800, and wiring labour at the indoor unit. We survey the property and quote the total, because a per-device price is misleading in a villa.

Can it control my O'General AC?
Chevron down icon
Yes, with the Fujitsu UTY-TTRX adapter, which is the one made for O'General and Fujitsu equipment. The Dropair adapters do not cover those units. O'General is common in older Dubai villa stock, so this comes up often.
