The U50 is the entry point of the Aqara lock ladder and the one to pick when the door matters but does not justify a four figure lock. It replaces the existing lock with a fingerprint reader, a keypad, an NFC card option and a mechanical key, and it does the daily job of a smart lock properly: everyone gets their own credential, the door relocks itself, and the app shows who came in. What separates it from the U100 above it is the credential set rather than the build. There is no Apple Home Key here, so an iPhone or Apple Watch will not open the door by proximity, and remote control depends on an Aqara hub carrying the lock to your phone. Fingerprint and PIN cover most households without either. Fitting is a replacement rather than a retrofit, so the door gets worked on, which makes this a straightforward choice on a villa secondary door or an owned apartment and a conversation with the landlord anywhere else.
