Overview

What it is and where it fits

The LNDU HK01 is a smart deadbolt lock built around Apple Home Key. You add a key to the Home app on your iPhone, then tap the phone or your Apple Watch on the lock's reader to get in. There is no app to open first and no code to type. It fits Apple households better than mixed ones. Anyone who wants to use Home Key needs an iPhone or Apple Watch, since there is no Android version. In a Dubai apartment or villa where everyone is on iPhones, it makes a low-effort front door. People without an iPhone still get in by fingerprint, PIN, or the physical key. Renters can use it too, because it fits onto the existing deadbolt with no drilling and comes off cleanly later. You get six ways in total: Home Key tap, fingerprint, PIN, key, Siri, and the app. Local control over Bluetooth works on its own. For unlocking while you are away, or door-open alerts on your phone, you add the WiFi gateway. It runs on eight AA batteries that last around eight months, with a USB-C port on the front for power if they die at the door. Honest limits: it is ANSI Grade 3, fine for homes but not the toughest grade. Siri needs a HomePod or Apple TV at home. And it is Apple-first, so Google and Alexa users should look elsewhere.

  • Tap your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock, no app to open and no code to type
  • Six ways in: Home Key, fingerprint, PIN, physical key, Siri, and app
  • Around eight months on AA batteries, with a USB-C port for dead-battery days
  • IP54 weather rating, works in temperatures up to 60C

What to check before you order

Most Dubai front doors are solid timber or metal fire-rated doors, usually 40 to 50mm thick, so the 35 to 55mm fit range covers the majority of villa and apartment entrances. Measure your door first if it is a heavy building main door. Around seven in ten residents here rent, so if you rent, ask your landlord or building management before fitting this. It swaps onto the existing deadbolt with no drilling, so it comes off cleanly when you move out and you can refit the original lock. Summer heat matters. The lock is rated to 60C, but a door in direct afternoon sun can read hotter at the surface, so a shaded or recessed doorway is kinder to the battery and the fingerprint reader. The lock runs on AA batteries, so it needs no wiring, and the optional WiFi gateway plugs into a normal Type-G UAE socket. Keep your WiFi reaching the door for remote features, which is simple in a flat but may need a mesh point near a villa gate.

Questions about the LNDU HK01 Apple Home Key Smart Lock

What is the LNDU HK01?
Chevron down icon
It is a smart deadbolt lock built around Apple Home Key. You store a digital key in the Apple Home app, then tap your iPhone or Apple Watch on the lock to open the door. It also has a fingerprint reader, a PIN keypad, a physical key, and Siri, so everyone at home has a way in.

How does Apple Home Key actually work?
Chevron down icon
You add the lock to the Apple Home app and a Home Key appears in your iPhone Wallet. To open the door, you hold the phone or your Apple Watch near the lock's reader. It still works for a few hours if the phone battery goes flat, thanks to Apple's power reserve, and you never open an app first.

Will it fit my villa or apartment front door?
Chevron down icon
It fits doors from 35mm to 55mm thick, which covers most Dubai villa and apartment entry doors. It replaces your existing deadbolt. Very heavy building main doors or narrow glass doors may not suit it, so measure the door thickness and check you have a standard deadbolt cutout before you buy.

Can a tenant use this, or is it only for owners?
Chevron down icon
Tenants can use it. It fits onto the current deadbolt with no drilling, so it does not damage the door. Many Dubai tenancy contracts ask you not to change locks without permission, so tell your landlord or building management first. Keep the old lock and refit it when you hand the flat back.

Will my landlord allow it?
Chevron down icon
Most landlords are fine with a lock that leaves no marks and can be removed. Because the HK01 needs no drilling and reuses the existing bolt hole, you can put the original lock back when you leave. Get approval in writing from the landlord or the owners association to avoid any deposit dispute later.

Who installs it, and can I do it myself?
Chevron down icon
Many people fit it themselves in about 15 minutes with the paper template in the box and a screwdriver. No drilling is needed. If you are not confident, or the door is metal or fire-rated, our team can install it for you and set up the Apple Home app and the WiFi gateway on the day.

Does it need WiFi or a hub to work?
Chevron down icon
Not for the basics. Tapping to unlock, fingerprint, PIN, and the physical key all work with no internet. You only need the separate WiFi gateway if you want to unlock the door while you are away from home, or get a phone alert each time someone opens it.

Do I need an Apple HomePod or Apple TV?
Chevron down icon
Only for two things. Siri voice unlocking and remote control through Apple Home need an always-on Apple home hub, which means a HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV kept at home. Tap-to-unlock, fingerprint, and PIN all work without any hub. The LNDU app can also give remote access through its own WiFi gateway.

Does it work with Google Home or Alexa?
Chevron down icon
No. The HK01 is built for Apple. It works with Apple Home and Home Key, plus the LNDU app. There is no native Google Home or Amazon Alexa support. If your home runs on Google or Alexa, or family members use Android phones, this is not the right lock and we can point you to one that fits.

Will the fingerprint reader cope with Dubai summer heat?
Chevron down icon
Fingerprint readers work fine in the heat, but very hot or sweaty fingers can misread now and then. A shaded or recessed doorway helps. If a print fails, you just tap your phone, type the PIN, or use the key. Registering two fingers for each person also cuts down on failed reads.

How long do the batteries last, and what about a power cut?
Chevron down icon
The eight AA batteries last around eight months in normal home use, and the lock warns you well before they run low. A DEWA power cut does not affect it at all, since it runs on batteries, not mains. So a building outage never leaves you locked out of your own front door.

What if the batteries die while I am standing at the door?
Chevron down icon
There is a USB-C port on the outside faceplate. Touch a phone power bank to it and the lock powers up long enough to read your fingerprint or Home Key and let you in. You also always have the metal backup key, so a flat battery never locks you out of the house.

Is there a mechanical key as a backup?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The lock comes with physical backup keys and a normal key cylinder. This helps older family members who do not carry a smartphone, and works as a fail-safe. Keep one key with someone you trust or in a safe spot outside the flat, in case the electronics ever act up.

How do I give access to guests, a maid, or a cleaner?
Chevron down icon
You can set a separate PIN for each person, or send a one-time or time-limited code from the LNDU app. So a cleaner can get a code that only works on set days or hours. When the job ends, you delete the code. You never have to hand over a key or share your own PIN.

Can I see who opened the door and when?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The app keeps an unlock history, so you can see which fingerprint, code, or key opened the door and at what time. This is handy for checking the maid arrived or that the kids got home. Push alerts for each entry need the WiFi gateway to be set up.

How many users and fingerprints can it hold?
Chevron down icon
It holds plenty of fingerprints and PINs, enough for a family plus staff and regular guests, with a separate profile for each person. That way the entry log shows exactly who came in. You manage everyone from the Apple Home app or the LNDU app, adding or removing people from your phone in seconds.

Is it safe from hacking or being picked?
Chevron down icon
The digital side uses Apple Home Key, so the key stays encrypted inside your iPhone and there is no PIN sitting on a company server to be stolen. On the physical side it is a reinforced zinc-alloy deadbolt at ANSI Grade 3, a home-grade rating. Set a long, private PIN and change it if you think someone saw it.

Does it work fully offline?
Chevron down icon
Yes. All the daily unlocking, meaning Home Key tap, fingerprint, PIN, and the metal key, works with no WiFi and no internet. The internet only adds remote unlocking and phone alerts. If your building WiFi drops, you still get in and out normally, and any codes you already set keep working.

What comes in the box?
Chevron down icon
You get the outdoor keypad unit, the indoor deadbolt and motor unit, all the mounting screws and fittings, the physical backup keys, a paper installation template that sets the bolt length, and a printed quick-start guide. The WiFi gateway is a separate accessory, so add it if you want remote unlocking and phone alerts.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
The maker gives an 18-month warranty with lifetime technical help. Buy through us and you also get local UAE support, so you deal with a Dubai team rather than an overseas call centre. We help with setup, warranty replacements, and door-fit questions. Keep your invoice, as any warranty claim needs proof of purchase.

Why is there no fixed price shown?
Chevron down icon
We source this lock to order, and the price moves with stock and shipping. Rather than post a number that goes stale, we give you today's real price and lead time when you ask. Send us your door type and whether you want the WiFi gateway, and we will confirm price and availability.

How does it compare to the Aqara A100 or Yale Linus L2?
Chevron down icon
The HK01's strength is Apple Home Key at a lower price than many rivals. The Aqara A100 also does Home Key and suits homes already using Aqara sensors. The Yale Linus L2 is a strong all-rounder but costs more. If you are all-Apple and want tap-to-unlock without spending a lot, the HK01 makes sense.

Who should not buy this lock?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if anyone who needs regular access uses an Android phone, since Home Key is Apple only. Skip it too if your home runs on Google Home or Alexa, if you want the highest security grade, or if your front door sits outside the 35 to 55mm thickness range or has no standard deadbolt cutout.

Is it good value for the money?
Chevron down icon
For an Apple Home Key lock, it sits at the affordable end, which is its main appeal. You get six ways to unlock, a solid eight-month battery, and a USB-C backup. It is ANSI Grade 3, so it is made for homes rather than high-security sites. For most Dubai apartments and villas, it is fair value.
