Overview

What it is and where it fits

The V7 Max is the most expensive lock we list and the only one that powers itself from a beam of light, which makes it a specialist choice rather than a default one. It took CES 2026 Best of Innovation for that charging system, which Lockin calls AuraCharge. A small transmitter plugs into a socket inside the house, sits within about four metres of the door with a clear line of sight, and beams eye safe light onto a receiving panel on the inside of the lock. Two lithium packs inside the lock stay topped up, so nobody is pulling a battery out twice a year. TUV Rheinland and SGS both certified the optical output. The rest of the lock matches the price. The outside panel is 15.1mm thick and carries a 5 inch touchscreen, HD cameras, a finger vein reader, a palm vein reader and 3D face recognition. A second 5 inch screen sits on the inside panel. Matter is built in, so Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings all see it. Two things to be plain about. Lockin has taken its own V7 Max product page down, so part of what we know comes from the CES announcement and from the spec sheet its distributors publish rather than a live brand page, and we confirm the rest with the factory when we quote. It is also a mortise lock ordered left or right handed, so the door is measured and the handing fixed before anything ships.

  • A small indoor transmitter beams light at the lock from up to four metres away, so the packs top themselves up and charging stops being your job.
  • Three biometrics on one door, finger vein, palm vein and 3D face, so every person in the house has a method that works for their hands.
  • Two cameras and a 5 inch outside screen make the lock the video doorbell too, with a matching screen on the inside panel.
  • Matter is built in, so Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings all control the lock without a Lockin bridge.

What to check before you order

Three Dubai specifics decide this lock. First, heat. Lockin rates it from -20C to 55C, and a west facing villa door in July sits in direct sun for hours, so it belongs in a shaded or recessed entrance rather than on a bare sun struck door. Second, the transmitter. It plugs into a socket inside the house, within about four metres of the door and with a clear line of sight, so we look for a hall socket during the survey. In a flat that is usually easy and in a villa with a deep entrance hall it sometimes is not. Third, the door. It is a mortise lock with the handing fixed at order, and Dubai villa doors run thicker than European standard with the backset varying by developer, so we measure before ordering. Tower flats add a fire rated door and building approval to the list. Tenants need the landlord's written consent, and at this price that conversation happens first, not last.

Lockin in the UAE. Sold through UAE smart home retail. Its palm-vein and finger-vein locks read blood-vessel patterns rather than a fingerprint surface, which is a class of lock most brands here do not offer.

Questions about the Lockin V7 Max Smart Lock

What is the Lockin V7 Max?
Chevron down icon
It is Lockin's flagship mortise lock, launched at CES 2026 where it won Best of Innovation. It reads finger veins, palm veins and your face, carries two cameras and a 5 inch screen outside, a second screen inside, and it is powered by a light beam from a transmitter inside the house.

How much does the V7 Max cost in Dubai?
Chevron down icon
Our supplied price is AED 3,969 for the lock. Installation is quoted separately once we have surveyed the door, because a mortise swap on a heavy villa door is real joinery work. It is ordered in rather than held on a shelf, so we confirm the lead time with the quote.

Where can I buy the V7 Max in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Not from the usual online shops. We checked amazon.ae and noon.com on 18 September 2026 and neither lists it, although both carry other Lockin models. Lockin sells it through distributors rather than its own web store, so we order it in and fit it ourselves.

What is AuraCharge and how does it actually work?
Chevron down icon
It is optical charging. A small transmitter plugs into a mains socket indoors and sends an eye safe light beam to a receiving panel on the inside of the lock, which turns it into power much like a small solar panel. It works in any room lighting, including a dark hallway at night.

Is the light beam safe to walk through?
Chevron down icon
Lockin had the optical output certified by TUV Rheinland and SGS, and the beam stops charging if something interrupts it. Walking past does nothing except pause the top up for a moment. It is worth knowing this is new technology, so anyone uneasy about it should choose a battery lock instead.

How far can the transmitter be from the lock?
Chevron down icon
Up to about four metres, roughly thirteen feet, with a clear line of sight. It can sit on a console table or be fixed to a wall. If your entrance hall has no socket in that range, or a wall or wardrobe blocks the path, the charging system will not do its job and we would tell you before ordering.

Does it still have batteries inside?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The lock carries a 6735mAh pack and a 2500mAh pack, and the light beam keeps them charged rather than replacing them. That is the point: you get the convenience of a battery lock without the calendar reminder to change or recharge cells every few months.

What happens in a DEWA power cut?
Chevron down icon
The lock runs on its own packs, so face, vein and passcode entry all carry on working. The transmitter is off while the mains is off, so charging pauses, and Wi-Fi features pause with your router. Normal Dubai outages are short and the stored charge covers them comfortably.

Can it handle a Dubai summer?
Chevron down icon
The published operating range is -20C to 55C. Air temperature here tops out below that, but a west facing door in direct afternoon sun gets far hotter at the surface than the air does. On a shaded or recessed entrance it is fine. On a bare sun struck door we would steer you elsewhere or add shade first.

Will it fit my villa door?
Chevron down icon
Probably, after measuring. It is a mortise lock and the panels are 470mm tall, so the door needs the height and the stile width to carry them. Dubai villa doors are often thicker than European standard and the backset varies by developer, so we measure thickness, backset and the existing lock body before anything is ordered.

Does handing matter when ordering?
Chevron down icon
Yes, and it cannot be fixed afterwards. The V7 Max is ordered as a left or a right opening lock. Stand outside your door and look at which side the hinges sit on. We confirm handing on the survey along with the door measurements so that the lock which arrives is the one that fits.

Can I fit it on an apartment door?
Chevron down icon
Sometimes. Most Dubai flat entrance doors already use a European mortise, so the lock type is right, but the door in a tower is usually fire rated and changing it can void that rating. Ask building management before you order, because at this price a refusal after delivery is an expensive conversation.

I rent. Should I buy this?
Chevron down icon
Only with the landlord's written approval, and honestly most tenants should not. Fitting works the door, the lock costs more than most people spend on a year of rent hardware, and you cannot easily take the joinery with you. A retrofit lock on the existing cylinder is the sensible rental answer.

Do I need a hub or a bridge?
Chevron down icon
Not for the Lockin app, which reaches the lock over your own 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. If you want the lock inside Apple Home or SmartThings you need a Matter controller already in the house, such as a HomePod or an Apple TV. Most homes running Apple already have one.

Does it work with Apple Home?
Chevron down icon
Yes, through Matter, with a Matter controller in the house. Apple Home Key, the tap your phone or watch on the lock feature, has not been announced for this model, so do not buy it for that. Apple also blocks voice opening on locks as a platform rule.

What about Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings?
Chevron down icon
All three are supported through Matter. In a Dubai household where the family runs iPhones and the staff run Android, that matters more than it sounds, because nobody is forced onto a second app. You can also tie the lock into routines, so the hall lights come on when the door opens.

How many people can it hold?
Chevron down icon
Fifty profiles each for palm vein, finger vein, face and passcode, plus twenty five NFC cards. That covers a large villa household with family, live in staff, a driver and regular contractors, each with their own credential and their own line in the log rather than one shared code everyone knows.

Which biometric should my family use?
Chevron down icon
Face is fastest for anyone arriving with shopping in both hands. Palm vein suits staff and anyone whose face is under a cap or in strong low sun on a west facing door. Finger vein is the deliberate one for a careful user. We enrol at least two methods per person so nobody is ever stuck.

Is it a video doorbell as well?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The outer panel carries HD cameras with a wide view and the 5 inch screen handles two way calling, so a caller at your villa gate side door reaches you wherever you are. The inside screen shows the same view, which is useful when someone knocks and you would rather not open.

How does it compare with the Lockin V5 Max?
Chevron down icon
The V5 Max is the sensible version of the same idea: 3D face and palm vein, a 4 inch screen, a normal rechargeable battery, and a much lower price. The V7 Max adds finger vein, a second screen, the camera pair and the light charging. If that charging is not the reason you are buying, the V5 Max is the better value.

How does it compare with the Veno Pro?
Chevron down icon
They are different animals. The Veno Pro is a deadbolt with a palm reader and a 2K camera for a door prepared American style, at a fraction of the price. The V7 Max is a full mortise lock set for a villa main door, with three biometrics and no charging routine. Door type usually decides before budget does.

What does the AI part actually do?
Chevron down icon
Lockin calls it LockinAI and says it covers parcel detection, tamper and theft alerts, and searchable event video. Some of the detail, including how much video is stored on the lock and what stays on the phone, is not published, so we confirm it with the factory at quoting stage instead of repeating a claim we cannot check.

Why are some specs missing from this page?
Chevron down icon
Lockin pulled its own V7 Max product page down, so we are working from the CES launch material, its press release and the spec sheet its distributors publish. Where a number is not confirmed, such as the water rating or the security grade, we have left it out rather than guess. Ask us and we will confirm it before you order.

Contact us
How many cameras does it have?
Chevron down icon
Lockin's press release and the launch coverage say two on the outer panel, while one Lockin blog post says three in total. We have listed two because that is what the majority of official material says, and we confirm the final count with the factory on the unit we supply to you.

How long is the lead time and do you fit it?
Chevron down icon
We fit it, and we would not sell it any other way at this price. It is ordered to your handing, so expect a lead time rather than a next day delivery, and we confirm that in writing with the quote. Fitting a mortise lock to a heavy villa door is a half day job for two people.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Lockin has no showroom or service counter here, so warranty runs through us and the distributor rather than a shop you can walk into. On a lock this expensive that is a genuine consideration. We hold the paperwork and handle the claim, and we tell you the cover period in writing before you pay.

Who should not buy the V7 Max?
Chevron down icon
Anyone renting, anyone with a bare west facing door in full sun, anyone whose hall has no socket within four metres of the door, anyone in a tower with a fire rated door the building will not let you change, and anyone who wants a proven model rather than a first generation flagship.

What maintenance does it need?
Chevron down icon
Wipe the camera and face window every couple of weeks, because fine Dubai sand settles on glass and softens both the video and the face read. Keep the transmitter's line of sight clear of furniture and boxes. Beyond that, keep firmware updates switched on and test the mechanical key twice a year.
