The Nuki Smart Lock Ultra is the best retrofit smart lock Nuki makes, and it suits Dubai owners with a euro-cylinder door who are happy to swap the cylinder for a better one. It is not the cheap option, and it is not the keep-your-old-lock option. In the box you get a small stainless steel motor unit (57 mm across, 58 mm deep) and Nuki's Universal Cylinder, a drill-resistant SKG*** cylinder with three new keys. We fit the cylinder, then the Ultra clips on the inside. From outside the door looks the same. It opens by phone, Apple Watch, Auto Unlock as you walk up, or a Nuki Keypad 2 by fingerprint or code. Wi-Fi is built in, so remote access and guest keys work without a Nuki Bridge. It also speaks Matter over Thread, so Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings can control it through a Thread hub. The brushless motor is quick and quiet, with three speed settings. The battery is sealed and recharges in about two hours over a magnetic USB-C cable, even while mounted. Nuki quotes 4 to 6 months per charge on Wi-Fi and longer on Thread. The limits are real. You need a euro-profile or Swiss round cylinder door, the lock body stays mechanical, and fingerprint entry needs the Keypad 2 at extra cost. Renters must get landlord approval before a cylinder change. If you want to keep your current cylinder or spend less, look at the Smart Lock Pro 4th Gen or the standard 4th Gen.

The Ultra fits the typical Dubai villa or apartment door that has a European mortise lock body with a euro-profile cylinder and lever handles. It does not fit US-style bored deadbolts, rim locks, UK oval cylinders or frameless glass doors. We measure the cylinder first: Nuki needs no more than 67.5 mm inside and 55 mm outside (longer outside extensions exist), and at least 30 mm from the keyhole centre to the handle and frame. Narrow aluminium villa doors can fail that clearance. The unit sits inside, and Nuki rates it for 10 to 40°C, so it suits an air-conditioned hallway, not an unconditioned store room or a sun-baked porch door. Tower entrance doors are often fire-rated, so check building management rules before changing the cylinder. Tenants need landlord approval. Keep the old cylinder so it can go back at move-out. In a DEWA power cut the lock keeps working on battery and Bluetooth, but Wi-Fi remote access stops until your router is back.
