Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Nuki Keypad 2 is not a lock. It is the add-on that lets people open a Nuki smart lock with a fingerprint or a PIN, and it is worth buying if anyone in your home should not need a phone to get in. Think children coming home from school, a maid, a driver or elderly parents. It works with the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra, the Pro 4th Gen, the standard 4th Gen and older Nuki locks from the 2.0 onwards, so you need one of those already. The slim keypad mounts outside next to the door, stuck to the frame or screwed to the wall. It connects to the lock by Bluetooth, so it has no wiring and needs no internet or remote access. It stores up to 20 fingerprints and 200 codes, each tied to a named person with its own schedule in the Nuki app. Four AAA batteries power it for up to 12 months. Nuki rates it IP54 against dust and splashes, and for minus 20 to plus 70°C. It must sit within about 10 metres of the lock with a clear Bluetooth path, so it goes by the front door, not at a villa gate. If the keypad is stolen, Nuki replaces it free when you send a police report and your invoice. Do not buy it if you have no Nuki lock or want the keypad built into the lock. A one-piece fingerprint digital lock may suit you better then.

  • Lets children, maids and drivers open the door with a fingerprint or code, no phone needed
  • No wiring and no internet needed, it talks straight to your Nuki lock
  • Each fingerprint and code has a name and schedule, and shows in the entry log
  • Rated for outdoor use, with free replacement from Nuki if it is stolen

What to check before you order

The Keypad 2 only makes sense on a door that already has, or will get, a Nuki smart lock. Mount it within Bluetooth reach of the lock, ideally on the frame beside the door, because a thick villa door, metal frame or stone wall can cut the 10 metre range. It will not work at a compound gate far from the house. Nuki rates it to 70°C and IP54, which covers splashes and dust, but a black keypad in direct afternoon sun gets very hot, so we prefer a shaded wall or a porch. Wipe fine sand off the fingerprint sensor if reads start failing. In apartment towers the keypad sits in the common corridor, so check building management rules before sticking anything outside the door. Tenants can use the adhesive mount to avoid drilling. It keeps working in a DEWA power cut or internet outage, since codes are stored on the lock and it runs on its own batteries.

Nuki in the UAE. Austrian maker of retrofit smart locks that fit over the inside of a euro-profile cylinder, which suits the mortise doors common in Dubai and lets tenants leave the outside of the door untouched. Stocked in the UAE by Amazon.ae, Sharaf DG and ACE. The cylinder must have an emergency function so a key left inside does not block the lock, which we check before fitting.

Questions about the Nuki Keypad 2 (Fingerprint and PIN Keypad)

What is the Nuki Keypad 2?
Chevron down icon
It is a battery-powered keypad with a fingerprint sensor that mounts outside your door and tells your Nuki smart lock to open. It does not lock anything by itself. It gives people a way in without a phone, using a fingerprint or a PIN code.

How much is the Nuki Keypad 2 in Dubai?
Chevron down icon
It is AED 649 on Amazon.ae and at ACE UAE, and both had it in stock when we checked. Sharaf DG lists it at a similar price but showed it out of stock. If we are fitting a Nuki lock for you, we can mount and set up the keypad on the same visit.

Does the Nuki Keypad 2 work on its own?
Chevron down icon
No. It needs a Nuki Smart Lock or Nuki Opener to control. It connects to the lock by Bluetooth and sends the open command when a fingerprint or code matches. Without a Nuki lock on the door it does nothing.

Which Nuki locks work with the Keypad 2?
Chevron down icon
Nuki lists the Smart Lock Ultra, Smart Lock Pro, Smart Lock Go, both 4th Gen models, Smart Lock 3.0 and 3.0 Pro, Smart Lock 2.0 and the Smart Door. It also pairs with the Nuki Opener, though Bluetooth range can be a problem there. The first-generation Smart Lock is not supported.

How many fingerprints and codes can it store?
Chevron down icon
Up to 20 fingerprints and 200 PIN codes. Each one is linked to a named user in the Nuki app, so the activity log shows who came in. You can give each person set days and times, which suits household staff with fixed working hours.

Do I need Wi-Fi, a Bridge or remote access for the Keypad 2?
Chevron down icon
No. The keypad talks to the lock directly over Bluetooth and the codes are stored on the lock. Remote access only helps if you want to add or change codes while you are away. Without it, you make changes in the app when you are near the lock.

Does the Keypad 2 work during a power cut or internet outage?
Chevron down icon
Yes. It runs on four AAA batteries and talks to the lock by Bluetooth, and the lock runs on its own battery too. Neither needs mains power or internet to open the door, so a DEWA outage or a router fault does not stop the keypad.

How far from the lock can I mount it?
Chevron down icon
Nuki gives a Bluetooth range of up to 10 metres, but walls, metal frames and thick doors reduce it a lot. In practice we mount it on the frame right beside the door. It is not suitable for a villa gate or boundary wall away from the house.

Can the Nuki Keypad 2 handle Dubai heat and sun?
Chevron down icon
Nuki rates it for minus 20 to plus 70°C, which covers Dubai air temperatures. Direct afternoon sun on a black surface can push it close to that limit, so we prefer a shaded wall, a porch or a covered entrance. It is fine in air-conditioned apartment corridors.

Is the Keypad 2 waterproof and dust proof?
Chevron down icon
It is rated IP54, meaning protection against dust and water splashes from any direction. It handles rain, dust storms and cleaning. It is not built to be hosed directly, so warn your cleaner or gardener not to pressure-wash the wall where it sits.

How long do the Keypad 2 batteries last?
Chevron down icon
Nuki says up to 12 months on four AAA alkaline batteries, and a set comes in the box. Busy family doors use them faster. The Nuki app shows a low battery warning, and changing them takes a couple of minutes with the keypad lifted off its mounting plate.

What if someone steals the keypad?
Chevron down icon
A stolen keypad cannot open your door, because codes and fingerprints are checked against the lock. Nuki runs a theft replacement guarantee: send a police report and your original invoice and it sends a free replacement. Delete the old keypad from the app straight away.

Is fingerprint entry secure?
Chevron down icon
Yes, for a home keypad. The Bluetooth link to the lock is end-to-end encrypted, and a 6-digit security code is needed to change keypad settings. Wrong codes and wrong fingerprints are recorded in the activity log, and Nuki can send you a warning when they happen.

Can children and elderly parents use it easily?
Chevron down icon
Yes, that is the main reason to buy it. A fingerprint is easier than remembering a code or carrying a phone. Children's fingerprints can be less consistent as they grow, so we enrol two fingers each and show them how to place their finger flat on the sensor.

Is the Keypad 2 good for maids and drivers?
Chevron down icon
It is ideal. Give each staff member their own code or fingerprint with working hours only, then delete it when they leave. There is no key to copy or hand back, and the app log shows exactly when they arrived and left.

Can I use it for holiday home guests?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Create a code for each booking that works only during the stay, and guests do not need to download the Nuki app. With remote access on your lock you can create and cancel codes from anywhere, which helps if you manage a DTCM holiday home remotely.

Can a tenant install the Keypad 2?
Chevron down icon
Yes. It includes adhesive strips as well as screws, so you can fix it to the door frame without drilling and remove it later. In towers, check building management rules first, because the keypad sits in the shared corridor outside your door.

How is the Keypad 2 installed?
Chevron down icon
Fix the mounting plate beside the door with the adhesive strip or screws, clip the keypad on, then pair it with your lock in the Nuki app and enrol fingerprints and codes. We allow about 20 to 30 minutes including setting up each family member.

What is the difference between the Keypad 2 and the Keypad 2 NFC?
Chevron down icon
The Keypad 2 NFC is a separate model that adds tap-to-open with a phone or watch wallet key on top of fingerprint and code. The standard Keypad 2 on this page offers fingerprint and code only. We list the price for the standard Keypad 2.

Does the Keypad 2 work with Apple Home or Alexa?
Chevron down icon
Not directly. The keypad only talks to your Nuki lock. The lock is the part that joins Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa through Matter, and entries made with the keypad show up as the lock opening.

What warranty does the Keypad 2 have in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Nuki gives two years. Claim through the retailer you bought from, so keep the invoice, which you also need for the theft replacement guarantee. If we supplied it with your lock, we handle any claim for you.

Nuki Keypad 2 or SwitchBot Keypad Touch?
Chevron down icon
Each only works with its own brand of lock. Buy the Keypad 2 if you have a Nuki lock, and the SwitchBot Keypad Touch if you have a SwitchBot lock. Both offer fingerprint and code entry, so the lock you choose decides the keypad.

Who should not buy the Nuki Keypad 2?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if you do not own a Nuki lock, if the lock is more than a few metres from where the keypad would go, or if you want everything in one unit. A fingerprint digital lock with a built-in keypad may be simpler for a door being replaced anyway.

How do I keep the Keypad 2 working well?
Chevron down icon
Wipe the fingerprint sensor with a soft dry cloth when dust builds up, change the batteries when the app warns you, and re-enrol any finger that often fails. Keep it out of pressure-washer spray and check the mounting plate is still tight after summer.
