The standard Nuki Smart Lock 4th Gen is the lowest-cost way into Nuki, and it is right for people who mostly want phone and Auto Unlock entry at the door rather than remote opening from the office. At AED 799 it costs AED 400 less than the Pro. It clamps over the inside of your existing euro-profile cylinder with your key left inside, and turns that key when you tap the app, walk up with Auto Unlock on, or use a Nuki Keypad 2. You keep your cylinder and keys, and nothing changes outside the door. The big difference from the Pro is connectivity. There is no Wi-Fi inside. Out of the box it talks to your phone over Bluetooth, so it works when you are near the door. For remote access you buy Remote Access via Thread in the Nuki app, and you need a Matter-over-Thread hub such as a HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K or Nest Hub. The same hub adds it to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings through Matter. It runs on four AA batteries (included), which Nuki says last up to six months. Your cylinder still needs an emergency function so the outside key works with the inside key in place. Skip it if you want remote opening without a hub, or if you run a holiday home. The Pro 4th Gen or Ultra fit those jobs better.

Fit is the same as the Pro: a European mortise lock body with a double euro-profile cylinder, which most Dubai villa and apartment entrance doors have. US bored deadbolts, rim locks, UK oval cylinders and glass doors are out. Test the emergency function first. If a key will not turn from outside with one left inside, the cylinder must be replaced before fitting. It needs no drilling, so tenants can usually fit it and remove it at move-out, but read your tenancy contract. Mount it on the air-conditioned side of the door only, and in summer use good alkaline or lithium AA cells. Cheap batteries leak and fade faster in heat. Because there is no Wi-Fi, a DEWA outage changes little: Bluetooth and the Keypad 2 keep working. If you manage a DTCM holiday home or want to let in a maid while at work, budget for a Thread hub and the in-app remote access, or choose the Pro.
Nuki in the UAE. Austrian maker of retrofit smart locks that fit over the inside of a euro-profile cylinder, which suits the mortise doors common in Dubai and lets tenants leave the outside of the door untouched. Stocked in the UAE by Amazon.ae, Sharaf DG and ACE. The cylinder must have an emergency function so a key left inside does not block the lock, which we check before fitting.
