Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Philips DDL902 is the top lock in the Philips EasyKey range, and it suits a villa owner who wants to open the main door with a palm or a face, with cameras watching the doorstep. It is expensive, and more lock than most apartments need. Philips does not make it. Shenzhen Conex Intelligent Technology builds and warrants it under a Philips brand licence. A radar sensor wakes the lock as you get within about a metre. You hold your palm up to the vein reader or look at the 3D face camera, and the fully automatic mortise pulls the latch back. Close the door and the bolt throws by itself. Fingerprint, PIN, key tag and a mechanical key are there as backups, so a maid, driver or older parent always has a way in. Two front cameras and one rear camera connect to the Home Access app over Wi-Fi, and a 4.7-inch screen inside shows who is outside. No hub is needed. Power comes from a 5000 mAh rechargeable pack that Philips rates at about three months per charge, with magnetic and USB-C emergency charging. The lock replaces your whole mortise, so the door edge usually needs re-cutting, and we check the door before you order. There is no Apple Home, Alexa or Google support, and a door in full afternoon sun is hard on the screen and battery.

  • Opens with a palm scan or your face from about a metre away, no touching
  • Three cameras and an indoor screen show who is at the door, day or night
  • Locks itself when the door closes and warns you if the latch did not catch
  • Rechargeable 5000 mAh battery with magnetic and USB-C emergency charging

What to check before you order

This is a push-pull lock with its own 924C fully automatic mortise, so it does not reuse the DIN or euro-cylinder mortise most Dubai doors already have. Expect the door edge to be re-routed and new through-holes drilled. Philips supplies kits for doors from 38 mm up to 120 mm, which covers thick villa doors. It suits solid timber and steel security doors in any handing. It is not for glass doors or narrow aluminium frames, because the body is wide. Most tower apartment entrance doors are fire-rated, and building management often refuses changes that cut the door leaf. Tenants need written landlord approval. A west-facing villa door in 45°C sun is tough on lithium batteries and glass screens, so a porch or canopy helps. During a DEWA power cut or internet outage the lock keeps working on its battery, and only the app, video and alerts pause.

Philips EasyKey in the UAE. Philips-branded digital door locks produced under brand licence rather than by Philips lighting or electronics. Sharaf DG sells entry models directly, while the camera and palm-vein flagships reach the UAE through third-party sellers, so we source those to order. Lock body sizes differ by region, so we confirm the mortise body against your door before ordering.

Questions about the Philips EasyKey DDL902-MVP Palm Vein and Face Recognition Smart Lock

What is the Philips DDL902-MVP?
Chevron down icon
It is the flagship of the Philips EasyKey smart lock range, a push-pull mortise lock that opens by palm vein scan, 3D face recognition, fingerprint, PIN, key tag or mechanical key. It adds three cameras, a 4.7-inch indoor screen and Wi-Fi app control through the Home Access app.

How much does the Philips DDL902 smart lock cost in Dubai?
Chevron down icon
We quote the DDL902 to order rather than list a fixed price, because UAE stock is thin and changes quickly. Message us with your door type and we will confirm today's price, availability and lead time. Installation is quoted with it, and a very thick villa door may need a different fitting kit.

Where can I buy the DDL902 in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Amazon.ae is where we found it in stock, listed by a third-party seller and shipped by Amazon. We did not find it on noon or Sharaf DG when we checked. You can also ask us to source it and fit it in one visit.

Is the DDL902 actually made by Philips?
Chevron down icon
No. Philips licenses its name. The lock is manufactured, sold and warranted by Shenzhen Conex Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., which makes the Philips EasyKey range. That is normal in this category and the build is good, but warranty claims go through Conex and the seller, not Philips itself.

How does palm vein recognition work?
Chevron down icon
The reader shines near-infrared light at your palm and maps the vein pattern under the skin, which is unique to each person. Because it reads below the surface, it still works when fingers are dry, worn or damp, which helps older family members and anyone whose fingerprints scan badly.

How is the DDL902 different from the Philips DDL702-FVP and DDL615?
Chevron down icon
The DDL902 adds palm vein reading, a third camera, a bigger 4.7-inch screen and a 5000 mAh battery. The DDL702-FVP has 3D face and a video viewer but no palm vein. The DDL615 is a basic Bluetooth fingerprint lever lock with no camera, at a fraction of the price.

Will the DDL902 fit my villa main door?
Chevron down icon
Usually yes on a solid timber or steel main door, but the lock brings its own 924C mortise, so we normally re-cut the door edge and drill new holes. Philips has fitting kits for doors from 38 mm to 120 mm thick. We measure the door before you buy.

Can I install it on an apartment door in a Dubai tower?
Chevron down icon
Only with building management approval. Most tower entrance doors are fire-rated, and cutting the door for a new mortise can break the fire certification. Some buildings allow it with conditions, others refuse outright. Get written permission first, then we can fit it.

I rent my home. Can I fit this lock?
Chevron down icon
Only with written landlord approval, because it replaces the mortise and changes the door. Keep the original lock for the end of the tenancy, though the new cut-outs cannot always be hidden. A tenant who cannot modify the door should look at a retrofit lock such as the SwitchBot Lock Ultra.

Does the DDL902 work on glass or aluminium sliding doors?
Chevron down icon
No. It is built for hinged doors in timber or steel. The wide body and deep mortise need a solid door stile. Glass doors and narrow aluminium profile frames need a different type of lock, and we can suggest one after seeing the door.

Do I need a hub or bridge for the DDL902?
Chevron down icon
No. The DDL902 has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built in and connects straight to your home router through the Home Access app. Make sure your Wi-Fi reaches the main door with a good signal, because the cameras, doorbell calls and remote features rely on it.

Which app does the Philips DDL902 use?
Chevron down icon
It uses the Home Access app. From the app you add users, create temporary PINs, check unlock records, answer the doorbell with video, receive tamper and loitering alerts, and change settings such as screen brightness and how far the radar looks for movement.

Does it work with Apple Home, Alexa or Google Home?
Chevron down icon
We found no Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home or Matter support for this model. Control is through the Home Access app only. If voice control or smart home scenes matter to you, the Aqara Smart Lock D200i is the better choice.

Is there a subscription for the DDL902?
Chevron down icon
The lock, app and live video work without a paid plan. Philips states that saved video history on the related DDL702 needs a cloud storage subscription, and the same kind of plan may apply here. Check the plan inside the app before you rely on recorded clips.

What happens in a DEWA power cut or when the internet drops?
Chevron down icon
Nothing changes at the door. The lock runs on its own battery, so palm, face, fingerprint, PIN, key tag and key all keep working. Without internet you lose remote app control, doorbell video and alerts until the connection comes back.

How long does the DDL902 battery last?
Chevron down icon
Philips quotes about three months per charge from its own testing. Busy doors, frequent camera wake-ups and loitering alerts shorten that. You recharge the 5000 mAh pack instead of buying AA batteries, and the lock gives a low battery warning well before it stops.

What if the battery goes completely flat?
Chevron down icon
Snap a magnetic wireless power bank onto the lock, or plug a 5V power bank into the USB-C port on the outside panel, to wake it and get in. The mechanical key also opens the door, so keep the spare with you or a trusted neighbour, never locked inside.

How does it cope with a 45°C Dubai summer?
Chevron down icon
The maker rates it from -20°C to 60°C, which covers Dubai air temperatures. The catch is direct sun, because a dark metal and glass panel facing west can get hotter than the air. On an exposed door we advise a canopy or porch, and you should expect shorter battery life in summer.

Does face and palm recognition work at night?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The cameras have infrared lights, so face recognition and the door viewer work in the dark. Palm vein reading also uses infrared light, so neither depends on your porch light. Standing still at roughly arm's length gives the quickest scans.

Is the Philips DDL902 secure?
Chevron down icon
It has a C-grade cylinder, tamper alerts, a forced-lock alarm, hidden PIN entry with extra digits, a dual verification mode and duress codes that alert the app. The 3D face module is designed to reject photos and videos. Like any lock, it is only as strong as the door and frame.

Can I give access to a maid, driver or holiday home guest?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Staff can be enrolled by fingerprint, palm, face or key tag, and the app creates recurring, time-limited or one-time PINs. Holiday home hosts can send a guest a code that expires at checkout, then check the unlock log afterwards to see who came and went.

How long does installation take, and do you fit it?
Chevron down icon
Yes, we supply and fit it. On a door already prepared for this style of mortise it takes about two hours. If the edge needs re-routing and new holes, allow half a day. We check door thickness, handing and the strike first, and set up users and the app before we leave.

What warranty do I get on the DDL902 in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
The warranty is given by Shenzhen Conex, the Philips licensee, through the seller you buy from, so keep your invoice. If we supply and fit the lock, we take the first call for any fault and deal with the seller or distributor on your behalf.

Who should not buy the Philips DDL902?
Chevron down icon
Tenants who cannot change the door, anyone with a glass or narrow aluminium door, and people who want Apple Home or Alexa control. If you only need fingerprint and PIN, the price is hard to justify, and the Philips DDL702-FVP or Yale YDM4109A covers most homes for less.

How does the DDL902 compare with the Aqara Smart Lock D200i?
Chevron down icon
The Aqara D200i also opens by 3D face, costs less, and adds Apple Home Key and smart home links. The DDL902 wins on palm vein reading, three cameras and a larger indoor screen. Pick Aqara for smart home integration and Philips for video and touch-free entry.

How does it compare with the Ezviz DL50FVS video lock?
Chevron down icon
The Ezviz DL50FVS is a video lock with a built-in peephole camera for roughly a quarter of the price, and it covers the basics well. The DDL902 adds palm vein reading, three cameras, a radar wake sensor and a larger indoor screen. Most apartment owners will be happy with the Ezviz.

What maintenance does the DDL902 need?
Chevron down icon
Very little. Wipe the glass panel, face camera and palm reader with a soft dry cloth, because a film of sand and dust slows scans. Recharge when the lock warns you. Once a year, check that the latch still lines up with the strike, since doors can shift slightly in the heat.
