Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Solity GR-60B is a smart rim lock, which means it fixes onto the inside face of your door instead of being cut into the door edge like a mortise lock. That surface fit matters in Dubai, where plenty of apartment and villa doors are not built for a deep lock body. It opens five ways: your fingerprint (up to 100 people), a PIN on the touch keypad (up to 4 codes), an RFID card (up to 100 cards), the Solity app over Bluetooth, and a normal metal key as backup. Bluetooth is built in, so daily locking and unlocking work with no internet at all. You only need the extra Wi-Fi bridge if you want to check or open the door while you are away from home. It locks itself once the door shuts, and an inside double-lock stops anyone reaching through to open it. For safety it sounds an alarm on a forced-entry attempt, lets you type a fake code in front of a stranger, and blocks the keypad for one minute after several wrong tries. A low-battery alarm gives you time to swap the cells, and an emergency power feature can get you in if they run flat. It suits renters and owners who want keyless entry on a flat, main or internal door without major carpentry. It is not a heavy mortise lock, it does not work with Apple Home, Google or Alexa, and Solity is quiet on battery type, warranty and box contents.

  • Five ways in: fingerprint, PIN, card, app or key
  • Surface-mounted, so it fits doors that cannot take a mortise lock
  • Works offline over Bluetooth, no internet or hub needed
  • Auto-lock, tamper alarm and a fake-code option for extra safety

In Dubai homes

What to check before you order

Most Dubai homes fall into two camps: apartment towers and villas. The GR-60B suits both, but it works best on apartment entry doors and lighter internal or sliding doors where a deep mortise lock will not go. Because it is surface-mounted, fitting is lighter and easy to reverse, which helps the roughly seven in ten residents here who rent. Still, ask your landlord or building management before you change any door hardware, get approval in writing, and keep the original lock to refit when you leave. Summer heat is the real test. Fingerprint readers can misread when hands are sweaty, so the PIN and card give you a dependable backup on a 45°C afternoon. The lock runs on batteries, not DEWA mains, so a power cut will not lock you out, and Type-G 220 to 240V sockets are only needed for the optional Wi-Fi bridge. If you want remote access, check your Wi-Fi actually reaches the front door. Buy through us for UAE stock, fitting and local support.

Solity in the UAE. A Korean digital-lock maker with a long track record in Asia. UAE availability is still thin: a few specialist lock retailers carry the G-series and mainstream marketplaces stock it only now and then, so we source and support these directly rather than pointing you at a shelf.

Questions about the Solity GR-60B Smart Rim Lock

What is the Solity GR-60B?
Chevron down icon
It is a smart rim lock from Solity, a South Korean brand. Rim means it mounts on the inside surface of your door rather than being cut into the door edge. It opens by fingerprint, PIN, RFID card, the Solity app or a backup key, so you can stop carrying keys.

Will it fit my apartment or villa door?
Chevron down icon
It fits most standard apartment entry doors and lighter main, internal or sliding doors, since it sits on the surface and does not need a deep lock pocket. Very thick, very thin or unusual doors can be a problem, so send us a photo of your door and its current lock and we will check first.

Can a tenant use it, and will the landlord allow it?
Chevron down icon
Yes, renters like it because fitting is fairly light and reversible. Ask your landlord or building management before changing any hardware, get it in writing, and keep the original lock. When you move out you can refit the old lock and take the Solity with you.

Who installs it and how long does it take?
Chevron down icon
Our team fits it for you, usually within an hour on a suitable door. We check the door thickness and the existing lock, mount the unit, set up the first fingerprints and codes, and show you how to add users. We do not recommend a DIY fit if you are unsure about door alignment.

Does it need Wi-Fi or a hub?
Chevron down icon
No for daily use. All the core functions, fingerprint, PIN, card and app unlock, run over built-in Bluetooth with no internet. You only need the separate Wi-Fi bridge if you want to lock, unlock or check the door from outside the home, for example from your office.

Does it work with Apple Home, Google or Alexa?
Chevron down icon
No. The GR-60B uses the Solity Smart Home app on its own, not Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Matter. If you want a lock that joins voice assistants or a wider smart-home routine, tell us and we will suggest a model that does. This one focuses on keyless door entry.

Will the fingerprint reader cope with Dubai summer heat?
Chevron down icon
Fingerprint sensors can struggle when fingers are sweaty, dusty or very dry, which happens in summer. Register the same finger a few times and add a second finger. If a read fails on a hot day, the PIN keypad or your RFID card open the door straight away, so you are never stuck outside.

Does it have face recognition?
Chevron down icon
No, the GR-60B does not do face unlock. It reads fingerprints, PIN codes and RFID cards, plus the app and a key. If face recognition is a must-have for you, let us know and we can point you to a different lock, though those cost more and are usually larger units.

What is the battery life, and what happens in a power cut?
Chevron down icon
The lock runs on its own batteries, not on DEWA mains, so a building power cut does not lock you out or in. Solity does not publish the exact battery type or expected months of use, so we will confirm what the unit ships with. You get a low-battery alarm well before it dies.

What if the battery dies completely?
Chevron down icon
There are two backups. The lock has an emergency power feature for when the battery is critically low, and it comes with mechanical keys. So even if you ignore the low-battery alarm and the cells go flat, you can still get in. We will show you both methods at handover.

Is there a normal key as backup?
Chevron down icon
Yes. A mechanical key override is built in, so you always have a non-electronic way in if you forget your PIN, your finger will not read, or the battery fails. Keep the keys somewhere safe and off the property, not in a bag left by the door.

Can I give access to guests, maids or a cleaner?
Chevron down icon
Yes. You can enrol up to 100 fingerprints and 100 RFID cards, and set up to 4 PIN codes. Give a cleaner their own code or card and remove it later when you no longer need it. That way you are not sharing your own PIN or handing out spare keys.

Does it keep a log of who came in?
Chevron down icon
The lock stores users, and the app shows activity over Bluetooth when you are in range, or remotely if you add the Wi-Fi bridge. Solity does not publish how many events the history holds, so if detailed access logs matter to you for staff or short-let guests, ask us and we will confirm before you buy.

How secure is it, and can it be hacked?
Chevron down icon
It has real defences: a tamper alarm for forced entry, a fake-password option so you can enter a dummy code if someone is watching, and a one-minute lockout after several wrong tries. No lock is unbreakable, but these features plus the physical bolt make casual attacks much harder.

What is the fake-password feature?
Chevron down icon
If a stranger is standing close while you enter your PIN, you can type extra random digits around your real code and the lock still opens. It stops people memorising your true PIN over your shoulder. It is handy in busy apartment corridors or when a delivery person is nearby.

Can more than one person use the app?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The Solity app pairs over Bluetooth for unlocking and settings. You can add family members and manage fingerprints, cards and codes from the phone. For opening the door while away from home, each remote user needs the Wi-Fi bridge set up, since Bluetooth only works within range of the lock.

Can I use it fully offline?
Chevron down icon
Yes. This is a strong point. Fingerprint, PIN, card and key all work with no internet, no account and no cloud. If your building Wi-Fi is patchy or you simply do not want a connected lock, the GR-60B still does everything except remote, away-from-home control.

What comes in the box?
Chevron down icon
Solity does not publish the exact box contents or the battery type on its spec page or the UAE listing, and we would rather not guess. Before you commit, we will confirm what your unit includes, such as mounting parts, cards and keys, so there are no surprises on the day.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Published warranty terms are not clear on the maker's page or the local listing, so we confirm the exact cover in writing before you buy. Because you buy through us in Dubai, you get local fitting, setup help and a real person to call, rather than shipping a lock abroad for service.

What does it cost and how do I buy it?
Chevron down icon
We source the GR-60B to order, so ask us for today's price and lead time. A UAE retailer has listed it near AED 500 including VAT, but stock is limited and prices move. Buy through us and you get the lock, professional fitting and after-sales support together, not just a box left at your door.

How does it compare to a SwitchBot retrofit lock?
Chevron down icon
A SwitchBot type retrofit sits over your existing thumbturn and turns the knob for you, so it is very renter-friendly and quick to remove, but it keeps your old keyway. The GR-60B replaces the lock face and adds fingerprint and a keypad on the door itself, which feels more built-in and gives biometric entry.

How is it different from a mortise or push-pull lock?
Chevron down icon
A mortise or push-pull lock, like the Solity GM-1000, is cut into the door and is heavier, larger and pricier, often on villa main doors. The GR-60B is a lighter surface-mounted rim lock, cheaper and easier to fit, better for apartments and internal doors. Pick the rim lock when carpentry is a concern.

The finish is called Titan Gold, is it actually gold?
Chevron down icon
The maker names the finish Titan Gold, but the official photos and the UAE listing both show a dark titanium or graphite colour, not a shiny gold. So expect a dark metallic look that suits most modern Dubai doors. If exact colour matters, ask us for a current photo before ordering.

Who should not buy this lock?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if you need Apple Home, Google or Alexa control, face recognition, or a heavy mortise lock for a large villa main door. It is also not ideal if you refuse any change to a rented door and cannot get landlord approval. In those cases we will suggest a better fit.

Can it lock automatically so I never forget?
Chevron down icon
Yes. It auto-locks once the door closes, so you will not walk away leaving it open. There is also a re-lock function and an interior double-lock you can set from inside at night, which stops anyone opening the door even if they had a code or card.
