Overview

What it is and where it fits

This is a push-pull mortise lock for a villa or townhouse front door you own, and the honest headline is that it does entry well and does the internet not at all. Out of the box it is Bluetooth only. You open it with a fingerprint, a 4 to 12 digit PIN, an RFID card or bracelet, the Solity Smart App at the door, or one of two mechanical keys. It holds up to 100 fingerprints and 100 cards, so a large family plus staff is not a problem. Push the handle down to go out, pull it to come in, and it locks itself when the door closes. There is no remote unlock and no phone alert when you are away, because the base unit has no internet. Solity sells a Wi-Fi module separately if you later want to check the door from your phone. Power is four AA batteries, and if they ever die a 9V battery held to the terminal under the keypad gives you enough charge to key in and open. Safety is sensible: a tamper alarm, a lockout after five wrong codes, and a heat sensor that unlocks the door in a fire. It suits an owner who wants fast, private, on-door access and is happy without an app notification. If you rent, or you need to open the door from another country, this is the wrong lock and we will say so.

  • Five ways in, from a fingerprint in about a second to a metal key, so no one is ever locked out
  • Runs with no internet, so there is no online account to hack and nothing to slow you at the door
  • A 9V battery on the front panel opens it if the AA batteries ever run flat
  • Stores up to 100 fingerprints and 100 cards, enough for a big family plus the cleaner and staff

What to check before you order

Villa and townhouse front doors in Dubai are usually solid wood or steel-cored, and this lock is made for exactly that, 40 to 50mm thick. Because it is a mortise lock the door gets cut to fit, which is fine on a villa you own and almost never allowed by a landlord, so it is an owner's lock, not a tenant's. UAE power is 220 to 240V, but that does not matter here: the lock runs on four AA batteries, so DEWA supply and summer cuts never reach it, and a 9V battery opens it if the cells die. Fingerprints can read slower on hot, sweaty fingers in July, so we register two fingers per person and set a PIN as backup. Since the base unit is Bluetooth only, weak Wi-Fi at a far villa gate is a non-issue out of the box. Solity carries a three-year regional warranty, and we handle supply, fitting and any service call locally.

Solity in the UAE. A Korean digital-lock maker with a long track record in Asia. UAE availability is still thin: a few specialist lock retailers carry the G-series and mainstream marketplaces stock it only now and then, so we source and support these directly rather than pointing you at a shelf.

Questions about the Solity GSP-2000BK Push-Pull Smart Door Lock

What is the Solity GSP-2000BK?
Chevron down icon
It is a push-pull smart lock for a front door, made in Korea by Solity. The lock body sits inside the door (a mortise) and the handles push and pull instead of turning. You open it five ways: fingerprint, PIN, RFID card, the phone app over Bluetooth, or a metal key.

Will it fit my villa door?
Chevron down icon
It is built for wooden or steel doors between 40 and 50mm thick, which covers most Dubai villa and townhouse front doors. We measure the door thickness and the existing mortise cut on site before ordering. If the current cut does not line up, we adjust it during fitting and tell you first.

Will it fit an apartment door?
Chevron down icon
Sometimes. Many apartment entrance doors are fire-rated and owned by the building, and cutting one for a mortise lock usually breaks both the tenancy and the fire certificate. If you rent an apartment, this is the wrong lock. Owners of a flat with a suitable door can use it, but check the building rules first.

I rent my home. Can I fit this?
Chevron down icon
We would advise against it. Fitting a mortise lock cuts the door, and most Dubai tenancy contracts do not allow that without the landlord's written permission. Around seven in ten residents here rent, so this comes up a lot. If you rent, ask us about a retrofit lock that leaves the door untouched.

Who installs it?
Chevron down icon
We do. It is a mortise fitting, so it means removing the old lock body, adjusting the cut in the door if needed, and setting up the plates, fingerprints and codes before we hand it over. This is not a stick-on job. A wrong cut ruins a good door, so use a fitter who does these regularly.

Does it need Wi-Fi or a hub?
Chevron down icon
No. Out of the box it works entirely on its own over Bluetooth, with no hub, no router and no internet. Nothing stops working if your Wi-Fi drops or DEWA cuts the power. Solity sells a separate Wi-Fi module if you later want phone access when you are away from home.

Can I open the door when I am abroad?
Chevron down icon
Not with the base lock. It is Bluetooth only, so the app opens it only when your phone is within a few metres of the door. There is no remote unlock and no alert when you are away. If opening the door from another country matters, add the Solity Wi-Fi module or choose a Wi-Fi lock.

Does it work with Apple Home, Google or Alexa?
Chevron down icon
No. It runs on Solity's own app and does not join Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa. Even locks that do connect will let voice assistants lock the door but not unlock it, for safety. If you want the door inside one smart-home app, tell us and we will point you to a lock that fits.

Do fingerprints still work in Dubai summer heat?
Chevron down icon
Mostly yes. The reader is fast, around a second. Very hot, sweaty or dusty fingers can misread, which is true of any fingerprint lock. We register two different fingers per person and set a PIN as backup, so a failed read is never a locked door. The housing itself is water-resistant.

How long do the batteries last, and what happens in a power cut?
Chevron down icon
The four AA batteries last several months of normal family use, and the lock warns you well before they run down. A power cut changes nothing, because the lock never used mains power. If the batteries do die, a 9V battery held to the terminal on the front gives you enough power to enter a code and open the door.

Is there a mechanical key backup?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Two metal override keys come in the box. If the electronics ever fail, or you simply prefer a key, they open the lock directly. We suggest keeping one key in the car or with a trusted neighbour rather than inside the house, so a flat battery never leaves you stuck outside.

Can I give the cleaner or a guest their own code?
Chevron down icon
Yes. You can set separate PINs and register different fingerprints or RFID cards for family, a cleaner, a nanny or a maintenance visit. Give each person their own credential rather than sharing one, so you can remove a single code later without changing everyone else's access.

Does it show who opened the door?
Chevron down icon
Be realistic here. The base lock is Bluetooth only, so it is built for access, not for detailed history you check from your phone. If seeing exactly who opened the door and when matters to you, that needs the optional Wi-Fi module or a lock designed around logging. Ask us and we will scope it before you buy.

Can it be hacked?
Chevron down icon
The base unit has no internet, so there is no online account for someone overseas to break into, which removes the most common remote risk. At the door, a tamper alarm sounds if someone tries to force the lock, and it locks out after five wrong codes. What you control is not sharing your PIN and removing old codes.

How many people can use it?
Chevron down icon
Plenty. It stores up to 100 fingerprints and up to 100 RFID cards or bracelets, which is more than any household needs and enough for a large family plus staff. You manage users at the door through the Solity app over Bluetooth, adding or removing a fingerprint, card or PIN as people come and go.

Does it work fully offline?
Chevron down icon
Yes, and that is the point of this model. Fingerprints, PINs, cards and keys all work with no internet and no hub. The only things that need a connection are the phone app (Bluetooth, at the door) and, if you add it, the Wi-Fi module for away-from-home features. Day to day, the lock owes nothing to your router.

What comes in the box?
Chevron down icon
The outside push-pull handle with the fingerprint reader and keypad, the inside handle, the mortise lock body, two mechanical keys and the fixing kit. We supply the batteries and handle the fitting. The optional Wi-Fi module is a separate item, not included, so ask for it if you want app access from away.

What warranty do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Solity backs it with a three-year warranty: two years of full cover, and a third year covering parts. The mechanism is tested to 200,000 open and close cycles, which is many years of daily use. We supply and fit the lock and handle any service or warranty claim locally, so nothing gets shipped overseas.

How much is it and how do I buy it?
Chevron down icon
We source this lock to order, so ask us for today's price and lead time. It sits in the mid range, above the basic Tuya and TTLock locks and below most Wi-Fi-native locks. Message us on WhatsApp or send the enquiry form with your door photos and measurements, and we will quote the lock and fitting together.

How does it compare to a Wi-Fi lock like EZVIZ or Aqara?
Chevron down icon
A Wi-Fi lock lets you open the door and get alerts from your phone anywhere, and some add a camera. This Solity does not, unless you add its Wi-Fi module. What you get instead is a simple, private lock with nothing online to fail or be attacked. Pick on whether remote access actually matters to you.

How does it compare to the Yale mortise lock?
Chevron down icon
Both are mortise fingerprint locks for an owned door. The Yale YDM4109A has app and Wi-Fi access built in and a large UAE service network behind it. The Solity is Bluetooth only unless you add a module, and leans on its five entry methods and price. If remote access and brand service matter most, look at the Yale.

Who should not buy this lock?
Chevron down icon
Renters, because fitting cuts the door. Anyone who needs to open the door or get alerts from far away, since the base unit has no internet. And anyone who wants the lock inside Apple Home, Google or Alexa. If that is you, tell us your priorities and we will match you to a better-suited lock instead.

What does push-pull mean, and is it better?
Chevron down icon
Push-pull means you press the handle down and push to leave, and pull the outside handle to enter, instead of twisting a knob. It is quicker with your hands full, which helps coming in from the car in summer. The lock still throws a proper mortise bolt into the frame, so it is not less secure.

Will it lock itself behind me?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Auto-lock throws the bolt once the door closes, so you cannot walk off and leave it open. It also has a double-lock you can set from inside and out for night or when you travel. If you prefer to lock manually, the auto-lock behaviour can be changed at the door.

Does it have face recognition?
Chevron down icon
No. This model uses fingerprint, PIN, RFID card, the Bluetooth app and a mechanical key. There is no face or palm scan. If face unlock is a must-have, we can show you a lock that has it, though fingerprint is faster and more reliable than face on most door locks in practice.

Can I stop it beeping at night?
Chevron down icon
Yes. It has a silent or mute mode that turns off the beeps and voice prompts, which helps in an apartment or when people are asleep. Voice guidance is useful while you learn the lock, then most people mute it. You can switch the sounds back on at the door whenever you want.
