Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Solity GEA-1000BK is a mortise smart lock built for the wooden main door of a home. It replaces your existing lock and gives you five ways to get in: your fingerprint, a PIN code on the keypad, an RFID card or tag, a mechanical key for backup, and remote control from your phone. The fingerprint reader sits under your thumb as you push the handle, so the door reads your print and opens in about 0.9 seconds. WiFi is built into the lock itself. There is no separate hub or bridge to buy or plug in, which is one less box on your shelf and one less thing to fail. Once it joins your home network, the Solity app lets you lock and unlock from anywhere, see a log of who came and went, and get a push alert each time the door opens. Inside, a dual-drive mechanism drives three deadbolts, and the lock can raise a break-in alarm, double-lock from inside at night, and lock itself after the door shuts. It also carries a 60-minute fire-door rating and a heat alarm that unlocks the door around 75C so people can get out. This suits villa and apartment owners who want proper security on a timber door. Renters can fit it too, though it is a drilled mortise lock, so most landlords will want to approve the change first. If your main door is metal or glass, this is not the right model.

  • One-touch fingerprint entry in about 0.9 seconds as you push the door handle
  • Built-in WiFi with no extra hub, so you can lock, check the log, and get alerts from your phone
  • Fire-door rated for 60 minutes, with a heat alarm that unlocks the door for escape
  • Five ways in, including a mechanical key and a 9V terminal for when batteries die

What to check before you order

Most Dubai villas and older apartments have a solid wooden main door, which is exactly what this lock is built for. If your entrance is a metal fire door or a glass panel, it will not fit, so check the door first. Summer heat is the common worry with fingerprint locks. The reader itself copes fine, but sweaty or very dry fingers can misread, so keep a PIN and a card set up as backups. The lock runs on 4 AA batteries and warns you well before they die, and a DEWA power cut does not matter because the lock is battery powered, not mains wired. WiFi only reaches the app features, so make sure your router or a mesh point covers the front door, which matters in larger villas. Renting? Ask your landlord before drilling, since this is a fixed mortise lock. We supply across Dubai and the wider UAE and handle the 3-year warranty locally.

Solity in the UAE. A Korean digital-lock maker with a long track record in Asia. UAE availability is still thin: a few specialist lock retailers carry the G-series and mainstream marketplaces stock it only now and then, so we source and support these directly rather than pointing you at a shelf.

Questions about the Solity GEA-1000BK WiFi Smart Lock

What is the Solity GEA-1000BK?
Chevron down icon
It is a Korean-made smart lock for the wooden main door of a home. It fits into the door as a mortise lock and opens five ways: fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card, a normal key, or your phone over WiFi. It also has built-in fire and break-in alarms.

Will it fit my villa or apartment door?
Chevron down icon
It is made for solid wooden main doors, which most Dubai villas and many apartments have. It replaces the whole lock body inside the door, so it needs a timber door of the right thickness. Send us a photo and the door thickness and we will confirm fit before you buy.

Can a tenant fit this, and will the landlord allow it?
Chevron down icon
Yes, tenants use it, but fitting means drilling and swapping the existing lock, so get your landlord or the building's approval first. Keep your old lock so you can put it back when you move out. Many owners are happy once they see it improves door security.

Who installs it and how long does it take?
Chevron down icon
Our technician fits it. We measure the door, cut the mortise pocket, mount both panels, and set up the app and your first fingerprints. A standard wooden door takes about one to two hours. We do not recommend a DIY fit, since a bad cut can weaken the door.

Does it need WiFi or a separate hub?
Chevron down icon
No hub or bridge is needed. The WiFi radio is inside the lock, so it joins your home network on its own. WiFi is only for the app features like remote locking and alerts. The fingerprint, PIN, card and key all work with no internet at all.

Does it work with Apple Home, Google, or Alexa?
Chevron down icon
This model runs through the Solity Smart Home app, not Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa. You control it and see the access log from that app. If you want a lock that joins Apple Home or a wider smart-home setup, tell us and we will suggest a model that does.

Will the fingerprint reader cope with Dubai summer heat?
Chevron down icon
The reader handles UAE heat well and sits under your thumb as you push the handle. Very sweaty, wet, or dusty fingers can misread now and then, which is normal for any fingerprint lock. Keep a PIN code and a card ready as backups for those days.

Does it have face recognition?
Chevron down icon
No. This model reads fingerprints, not faces. Entry is by fingerprint, PIN keypad, RFID card or tag, a mechanical key, or the phone app. If you specifically want face unlock, ask us and we will point you to a different lock in our range.

How long do the batteries last and what if they die?
Chevron down icon
It runs on 4 AA alkaline batteries and warns you in the app and at the door well before they run low. If they do go flat, there is a 9V terminal on the outside panel: touch a 9V battery to it for enough power to open with your code.

What happens during a DEWA power cut?
Chevron down icon
Nothing changes. The lock is battery powered, not wired to the mains, so a DEWA outage does not lock you out. Only the app side needs your WiFi router, so remote control pauses in an internet cut, while fingerprint, PIN, card and key keep working at the door.

Is there a normal key as backup?
Chevron down icon
Yes. It comes with a mechanical key and a proper key cylinder, so you always have a physical way in. This is useful for older family members or guests who prefer a key, and as a fallback if you ever want one. Two keys are included in the box.

How do I give access to guests, maids, or a cleaner?
Chevron down icon
Give each person their own PIN code, or a fingerprint or card. Because each one is separate, the app log shows who opened the door and when. You can delete a cleaner's or guest's code later without changing everyone else's, which is handy for short-term visitors and staff.

Can I see who came and went?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The app keeps an access log with the time each entry was made and which method was used. You also get a push alert each time the door opens. Parents use this to know when children reach home, and owners use it to check on staff or deliveries.

Can it be hacked or forced open?
Chevron down icon
No lock is perfect, but this one has real defences. A dual-drive mechanism throws three deadbolts, a break-in alarm sounds if someone tampers with it, and you can force a double-lock from inside at night. WiFi is used for the app, and access is tied to your own account.

How many people and codes can it hold?
Chevron down icon
It stores enough fingerprints, PIN codes, and cards for a whole household plus regular visitors. The exact count depends on the firmware, so tell us your family size and we will confirm the numbers for your unit before you order. Most homes never run out of slots.

Does it lock the door by itself?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Auto-lock closes the bolts a moment after the door shuts, so you cannot walk off and leave it open. You can also press a double-lock from inside for the night. If you prefer, our technician can set the auto-lock timing to suit how your household uses the door.

Does it still work with no internet?
Chevron down icon
Yes. All the door-side entry methods work offline: fingerprint, PIN, RFID card, and mechanical key. Only the phone features need WiFi, so remote unlocking and live alerts pause if your internet drops. When the connection comes back, the lock reconnects on its own and app control starts working again.

What comes in the box?
Chevron down icon
You get the outdoor keypad panel, the indoor panel, the mortise lock body, mounting screws and a fitting template, two mechanical keys, and RFID cards or tags. It uses 4 AA batteries. We check the full kit with you at handover and confirm anything specific before we order.

What is the warranty and is support local?
Chevron down icon
It comes with 2 years of full cover plus a third year on parts, so three years in total. We are a Dubai-based installer, so warranty claims and service go through us, not an overseas seller. If something faults, you deal with a local team, not a courier to another country.

How does it compare to a lock like the Aqara U200?
Chevron down icon
The Aqara U200 leans on a separate hub and an app ecosystem, while the Solity has WiFi inside and needs no hub. The Solity also adds a 60-minute fire rating and a three-deadbolt body. The Aqara suits Apple Home users; the Solity suits people who want strong standalone door security.

Who should not buy this lock?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if your main door is metal, glass, or aluminium, because it is cut for wooden doors. It is also not the pick if you must control the lock from Apple Home, or want built-in face recognition or a camera. In those cases, ask us for a model that matches.

Is it suitable for an apartment in a tower with building rules?
Chevron down icon
Often yes, but towers sometimes have rules about changing the entrance door or fire-door hardware. Check with your building management first, especially since many tower doors are metal fire doors, which this lock is not made for. For a wooden apartment door with approval, it fits well.

What does it do in a fire?
Chevron down icon
It has a heat alarm that reacts to a sharp rise in temperature and auto-unlocks the door around 75C, so people can get out fast. The lock body itself is fire-door rated to 60 minutes. This is a genuine safety feature, not just a marketing line.
