This is access control rather than a smart lock, and it is the right answer only for a specific situation: a property with several controlled doors or gates, and a UniFi network already in place. The reader takes NFC cards and mobile credentials, runs over PoE so power and data arrive on one cable, and is administered centrally, so one person can be granted or removed across every door at once rather than door by door. On a large villa or a compound with a main gate, a pedestrian gate, a staff entrance and a garage, that central control is the whole point, and it is what a collection of individual smart locks cannot give you. It also ties into UniFi Protect cameras, so an entry event and the video of it sit together. Understand what it is not. It does not fit a standard residential door on its own: it drives an electric strike or a maglock, which means door hardware, a power supply and cabling. It is quoted after a site survey because the doors, not the reader, determine the cost.

This is the specification for large Dubai villas and compounds where the gate, the pedestrian door, the staff entrance and the garage all need controlling together, particularly where a UniFi network and UniFi cameras are already installed. The central management is what matters with domestic staff: when a driver or a housekeeper leaves, one action removes them from every door on the property, which door-by-door codes never achieve reliably. Being PoE, there are no batteries to run flat at an outdoor gate, which is a real advantage in Dubai summer heat where battery life drops.
