The Xiaomi Self-Install Smart Lock is a motor unit that fits over the inside of your existing key cylinder, with no drilling. It suits Dubai apartments and villas with a standard European mortise lock and euro cylinder, and it is one of the easiest smart locks for tenants. You keep your lock, your door and your keys. The unit clamps to the cylinder with a bracket and screws or strong tape, and turns the thumbturn or a key left inside for you. You then press the handle as usual. The base version opens from the Xiaomi Home app over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, by voice through Matter, or with your normal key. The keypad version adds an outdoor fingerprint and PIN pad that runs on two AA batteries. A magnetic door sensor is in the box, so it can lock itself when the door shuts. The lock runs on a removable 2,450mAh battery that charges by USB-C, and Xiaomi quotes about six months per charge. It supports Matter, so it can join Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa. Know the limits. It is a retrofit, so the door is only as strong as the cylinder you already have. It needs a compatible cylinder: Swiss and ASSA 2000 types do not work, and US deadbolts are not on Xiaomi's list. Some key-both-sides cylinders block the outside key when a key is left inside, which means a cylinder swap. The lock unit is not waterproof and is rated to 55 C.

Unlike most smart deadbolts sold online, this one suits the typical Dubai door. Villa and apartment doors here mostly use a European mortise lock with a euro cylinder, the key barrel with a thumbturn or key on the inside, and that is what Xiaomi designed it for. Nothing is drilled or cut, so it is a sensible choice for tenants, though a quick word with your landlord is still wise. Tower apartment doors are often fire-rated; this fits on the inside without altering the door, but some buildings have rules about fixing a keypad on the corridor side, so check with building management. The lock unit works from -10 to 55 C and is not waterproof, so it belongs indoors. An outdoor keypad on a sun-facing villa door needs shade. We check the cylinder type first, because some double-key cylinders need replacing.
