Overview

What it is and where it fits

This is a dimmer at the wall rather than a smart bulb, which is the right architecture in any room where several fittings sit on one circuit. Ten downlights in a villa living room need ten smart bulbs to do what this one device does, and the dimmer costs a fraction of that. It dims the circuit itself, so ordinary dimmable LED fittings become controllable from the app, from voice and from the physical control on the plate, and the dimming level survives an internet outage because the switch holds it locally. The variant question is the one to settle first. This model is the EU version, and the UAE runs on Type-G plugs and UK-standard wall boxes, so the plate format is not the one used in most Dubai switch boxes. We confirm the correct regional version against the box before anything is ordered, and where the EU format cannot be made to fit an existing aperture cleanly we specify the phase dimmer module behind the existing plate instead. The other check is the fittings themselves: the LED lamps on the circuit have to be dimmable, and cheap non-dimmable LEDs will buzz or flicker regardless of which dimmer is fitted.

  • Dims a whole circuit of ordinary dimmable LEDs
  • Costs far less than putting a smart bulb in every fitting
  • Brightness level held locally, so it survives an outage
  • Sits on the same Aqara hub as the switches and modules

What to check before you order

Two things decide whether this is the right part in a Dubai home. First the wiring: it needs a neutral at the box, so it is a villa and recent apartment product. Second the format: this is the EU variant, and UAE housing is wired to UK standards with Type-G sockets and UK wall boxes, so the plate is not automatically a match for the aperture you are replacing. We confirm the correct regional version against a photograph of your existing plate and box before ordering rather than assuming it drops in. Where it does not, the Modo phase dimmer module goes into the back box behind the existing plate and gives the same dimming with no change to the visible switch, which is often the better answer in a finished villa anyway.

Questions about the Aqara H2 Dimmer Switch EU

Will this fit a UAE switch box?
Chevron down icon
Not always. This is the EU variant and UAE wall boxes follow the UK standard, so the plate format may not match the aperture you are replacing. Send us a photo of the existing plate and the open box and we confirm the correct regional version before ordering. If the format does not work, a dimmer module behind the existing plate does the same job.

Why dim at the switch rather than buy smart bulbs?
Chevron down icon
Count the fittings. A villa living room with ten downlights on one circuit needs ten smart bulbs, and one dimmer does the same thing for a fraction of the cost. Bulbs earn their place where the fittings are few and visible, such as lamps and feature pendants, or where you want colour.

Do my existing LED lights need changing?

They need to be dimmable. Non-dimmable LED lamps on a dimmer circuit buzz, flicker or refuse to go low, and that is the lamp's fault rather than the dimmer's. Check what is in the fittings first, because relamping a room to dimmable LEDs is often the larger part of the job.
