Overview

What it is and where it fits

This is the part that sorts out the tangle behind a television or a desk, where four things need power and two of them should not be on all night. Each socket is switched independently in the app and by voice, so the television, the sound bar, the console and a lamp are four separate devices rather than one strip you either leave on or unplug. That granularity is the reason to choose a strip over four individual plugs: one Wi-Fi client instead of four, one power supply, and no sockets blocked by oversized adapters. Surge protection is worth having here for a practical local reason rather than a marketing one, since a media wall usually holds the most expensive electronics in the house on a single outlet. Schedules cover the obvious cases, cutting standby loads overnight and bringing a desk setup up in the morning. Two limits. It is a Wi-Fi device on the 2.4GHz band, so it lives with the same congestion as everything else in an apartment tower. And it carries ordinary socket loads: no heaters, no kettles on a timer, nothing on a dedicated high current circuit.

  • Each socket switched separately rather than the whole strip
  • One Wi-Fi client covering four devices
  • Surge protection on the outlet holding your media wall
  • Standby loads cut overnight on a schedule

What to check before you order

Confirm the plug and socket format before ordering, since the UAE uses Type-G and this product is sold in several regional versions. We check that rather than assume. In Dubai apartments the media wall socket is usually a single outlet doing far too much work, and a strip with individual control tidies that up without an electrician. Summer voltage events and building supply switching make surge protection on that particular outlet worth having. Keep heating appliances off it entirely: a strip is for electronics and lamps, and anything that heats belongs on its own properly rated circuit.

Questions about the Meross Wi-Fi Controlled Power Strip With Surge Protector

Can each socket really be controlled separately?
Chevron down icon
Yes, and it is the main reason to choose this over an ordinary strip on a single smart plug. Each outlet appears as its own device in the app and in Alexa or Google, so the television, the sound bar and a lamp are switched and scheduled independently.

Is it better than using four smart plugs?
Chevron down icon
In one location, usually yes. Four plugs are four Wi-Fi clients and four adapters fighting for space on one wall socket. The strip does the same job as one client, and you keep the surge protection across everything plugged into it.

What should not be plugged into it?
Chevron down icon
Anything that heats. Kettles, heaters, irons and similar appliances draw far more than a strip of this type should be asked to carry, and putting them on a timer is worse again. Keep it to electronics, lamps and low draw devices.
