Overview

What it is and where it fits

The choice when 11kW is not fast enough or two different cars share the bay. 22kW AC output with a Type 2 socket rather than a tethered cable, which means each driver brings their own cable and the charger is not tied to one lead. 22kW is only available on a three-phase 400V supply drawing 32A per phase, which is the wiring most Dubai villas already have, so the specification fits the market. Whether the car uses all of it is a separate question: many EVs have an onboard AC charger limited to 11kW and will draw that regardless, so 22kW is worth paying for when a current or future car can take it, or when two cars must be turned around in a single evening. A socketed unit also suits a shared or compound bay where drivers arrive with their own cables. The 32A per-phase draw makes the supply conversation more important rather than less, and load balancing more relevant on a villa running heavy cooling. Installation is hardwired on a dedicated circuit by a DEWA-certified electrician.

  • Turns two cars around in an evening rather than one
  • Socket rather than a fixed cable, so each driver uses their own lead
  • Uses the full three-phase capacity a Dubai villa already has
  • No trailing cable left on the wall when the bay is empty

What to check before you order

22kW requires three phase 400V at 32A per phase, which most Dubai villas can support, but the dedicated circuit to the parking area has to be sized for it and that cable run is usually where the cost sits. A 32A three-phase run from a board at the rear of the house to a front parking bay is a bigger job than the charger itself. Load balancing deserves a serious conversation at this rating: a villa drawing 22kW into a car while several split units run through a July afternoon can take the main breaker out, and the fix is designed in rather than discovered. Check the car before paying for 22kW, because many EVs accept only 11kW on AC and will draw that whatever the charger offers. Installation in Dubai must be done by a DEWA-certified electrician on a dedicated circuit.

Questions about the Autel MaxiCharger 22kW AC Wallbox EV Charger

Will my car actually charge at 22kW?
Chevron down icon
Only if its onboard AC charger supports it. A good number of EVs cap at 11kW on AC, and those cars will draw 11kW from a 22kW wallbox with no benefit from the extra capacity. Check the vehicle specification first. The case for 22kW is a car that supports it, or two cars sharing one bay.

Socket or tethered cable, which is better?
Chevron down icon
A socket suits multiple cars and multiple drivers, keeps the wall tidy, and lets you replace a damaged cable cheaply. A tethered cable is more convenient day to day because there is nothing to fetch from the boot. For a single-car household a tethered unit usually wins on convenience.

Is the installation the same cost as an 11kW unit?
Chevron down icon
Usually more. The 32A per-phase draw calls for larger cable and appropriate protection on the dedicated circuit, and the longer the run from the board to the parking area, the more that difference shows. We price the run at survey rather than quoting a figure that assumes a short cable.
