The Aqara Hub M3 is the hub to buy if you are building a proper Aqara smart home in Dubai and want one box that also runs a split AC by IR. It suits apartments and villas alike. It is not an AC controller for ducted, VRF or chilled-water systems. The M3 connects to your router over dual-band Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and can take power over PoE. It runs Zigbee and Thread devices, up to 127 of them, and acts as a Matter controller and bridge, so Aqara sensors, switches and locks can show up in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings. Automations are stored on the hub and keep running when the internet drops. The IR blaster sends commands to a wall split AC or TV in the same room. Pair it with an Aqara temperature sensor, such as the W100, and you can cool a bedroom based on the real temperature, not a timer. You need to add a 5V 2A USB plug or a PoE port, because no adapter comes in the box. There is no subscription. The limits are clear. IR needs line of sight, so one hub covers one AC. Ducted units, VRF and tower fan coils use wired controls that IR cannot reach. The hub is rated to 50 C, so keep it indoors in a cooled room, never in a loft or garage.

The M3 fits any Dubai home with a router, from a studio to a large villa. Its AC control is IR only, so it suits wall split units found in many villas, older apartments and maid's rooms. It cannot drive ducted or VRF systems with wired controllers, and it cannot touch the wired fan coil thermostats used in towers on Empower, Emicool or Tabreed district cooling. Place it with a clear view of the AC. For whole-villa Zigbee coverage through concrete floors, mains-powered Aqara switches or plugs act as repeaters. The hub is rated to 50 C, so never mount it in a loft, garage or outdoor cabinet. UAE sockets need a UK Type-G USB plug, or use PoE from a switch on a small UPS so the hub rides out DEWA power cuts. It needs no wiring changes, which suits tenants.
