The Aqara Climate Sensor W100 is a battery-powered temperature and humidity display with three buttons. It suits Dubai homes with split ACs that want a wall control for an infrared air conditioner through an Aqara Hub M3. It is not a fan coil thermostat. The screen shows room temperature and humidity, rated accurate to 0.2°C and 2%, and two CR2450 coin cells run it for over two years. It works in two modes. In Zigbee mode with an Aqara hub you get the full feature set. Paired with a Hub M3, which has an infrared blaster, the W100 shows the AC's mode, fan speed and setpoint, and its plus and minus buttons change them, so it acts like a wall thermostat for a split unit. The M3 has to sit in the same room with a clear line to the AC. In Matter over Thread mode it joins Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings directly as sensors and buttons, but it does not show or control an air conditioner. It cannot switch a chilled-water fan coil's fan or valve, and the only thermostat Aqara lists it pairing with is the Radiator Thermostat E1. Do not buy it to replace the fan coil thermostat in a tower apartment. Without a hub or a Thread border router it is just a thermometer on the wall. As a room display and scene switch, it is good value.

Here is what the W100 can and cannot do in a Dubai home. With an Aqara Hub M3 in the same room, it becomes a wall control for a split air conditioner that uses an infrared remote, which covers most villa and apartment wall splits. It cannot control a chilled-water fan coil on Empower, Emicool or Tabreed district cooling, because that needs a wired 230V thermostat that switches the fan and valve. A tower resident should keep the fan coil thermostat, or fit an approved smart one, and use the W100 as a display and scene switch. It is 86 x 86 mm, the same size as a UK switch plate, but it runs on batteries and screws to the wall or sits on its stand. No back box, neutral or electrician is needed, so it suits tenants. Keep it away from sunny glass, where readings climb fast. Buy a unit meant for this region from a UAE seller, because Aqara ties activation to a product's sales market.
